I heard those freaking Diane pills are absolute garbage, so I really wouldn't want her messing around with that hormonal trash...🤷

And man, back in the day there wasn't anything else besides Diane, Trinovir, and Stediril, and women just dealt with it... so now you guys decide if she wants to stick with that or if she’s starting Yasmin on Monday, which means using extra protection for another 7 days.

That’s exactly what I was wondering about. So, if she starts it on Monday, how long does it take before she can actually be sure she won't get pregnant... and how does the counting work if she didn't start it on the very first day of her period?

thanks

Hold on, let me grab Yasmin’s guide and light up a cigarette, then I’ll give you the straight scoop... 😉

So here’s how she puts it: You can also kick things off between the second and fifth day of your cycle, but you better use some extra backup protection for the first seven days of that first pack of pills.

She counts them out normally, takes them for 21 days, then does a seven-day break, and starts back up on the eighth day, so basically, she’s always popping that first pill on the exact same day every single time.

So, if she takes it Monday, she's unprotected without a condom until the following Monday; she finishes all twenty-one pills, takes a week off, and then does she restart on the third day after her period starts, or can she just take it on the very first day?...

No, listen, it doesn't even matter when the period actually shows up, man... she needs to have her period during that seven-day break, and regardless of how long that lasts, she always starts the next pack on the eighth day after the break ends.

Basically, it’s 21 days of pills, then a 7-day break, and no matter what's happening with her cycle, she gets back on them on the eighth day...

It starts with twenty-one days of drinking, followed by a seven-day break, then on day eight, she picks up where she left off, another twenty-one days of drinking, and then another seven-day pause... if I'm understanding this correctly...

Exactly, the schedule stays the same every single month, just make sure you guys are super careful during that first seven-day stretch, and yeah, that’s basically it—just tell them to stay consistent and take it at the exact same time every day...😉

I have been observing this conversation for some time now, and frankly, the lack of intellectual rigor is becoming quite exhausting to witness... It seems as though everyone is more interested in shouting over one another than actually engaging with the substance of the argument, which is a disappointing trend even by the standards of these digital forums... If we cannot maintain a modicum of decorum and logical consistency, then I fail to see the point in continuing this exchange at all... kaže:
That’s exactly how it works, the interval remains constant every single time, though you really ought to be careful during that first seven-day stretch of the month, and beyond that, just ensure they are taking it at the exact same time consistently...😉

You're welcome. I just finished smoking my cigar down to the nub... 👍 🙂

Looking for some advice from anyone who’s dealt with this mess before.

About three years back, I was on Diane—total nightmare—but my doctor finally sorted it out. Still, even now, sex just doesn't feel the same, whether I'm using protection or not. It's frustrating.
I haven't touched them in almost two years—tried telling myself I could hold out while my body reset from all those hormones—thinking I'd eventually switch to something "lighter." In the meantime, condoms have been my only constant companion. Ugh.

Then, about ten months ago, I thought, "Okay, let's try pills again," and went with Yasmin—which turned out to be a massive mistake. My blood pressure went haywire, my thyroid started acting up, and my hair? Dropping out in clumps. Plus, the constant dizziness, diarrhea, and nausea... I honestly felt like I was pregnant. I spent months thinking something was wrong before I realized it was the damn pills. Now, I'm totally off them.

Has anyone else gone through this? Did you actually find a pill that works without wrecking your life? I know doctors say they can pick the right one based on blood work, but I can't help feeling like when a specific brand becomes "trendy," everyone just starts prescribing it like candy...

I don't know if you've had your blood work done yet. Without those results, they can't prescribe those pills to you.

Jeffrey Walker3 said:So here’s the deal
1. if you start on Yasmin today, you stick with Yasmin all month, then switch to Diane next month
2. if you don't start anything today, just wait until your next period starts and kick off with Yasmin then

And that's my whole expert philosophy right there!

I wouldn't recommend that approach. Once you start a specific brand of birth control, you really ought to stick with it for at least three months. Think about the shock to your system when you introduce pills for the first time, only to swap them out after a single month. It isn't a good idea.

😬

I know, right? But honestly, it’s almost a bigger bummer that Diane didn't start yesterday, and then we have Yasmin on Monday 🙂

Lisa Adams5 said:I’ve just started taking Yasmin, and I noticed a bolded warning in the little pamphlet stating that you shouldn't smoke while on contraceptive pills—something my doctor completely failed to mention during our appointment. Now I'm left wondering about the actual reasoning behind it; why exactly is smoking off-limits when you're using oral contraceptives?

Quoting myself. lol 😁

Does nobody actually know the link between smoking and birth control pills??

I actually just started taking Yasmin myself. Looking at this thread, it seems like everyone is complaining about it—it reminds me of all that drama involving the Australian diaries.😕
When exactly did those symptoms hit you? Was it right away in the first month, or did they develop after you'd been on it for a while?
My doctor prescribed Yasmin to me without any preliminary testing either, though he did monitor me closely through an entire pregnancy, so he's at least familiar with my blood work.🤷

🤷

I only saw that mentioned here on the forum. The gynecologist didn't bring it up at all; perhaps I'll ask her if it comes to mind next time.

I still smoke, and I haven't had any issues. 😬

Look, I don't know the exact science behind how they interact, but generally speaking, doctors tell women over 35 who smoke that they shouldn't be on the pill—or at the very least, they need to cut back on the cigarettes way down to almost nothing.
