What part of it isn't clear?

Haven't studies shown that people aren't just leaving solely because of the money—it might not even be the primary driver?

The real issue here, if you ask me, is a government that basically rolls out the red carpet for people to live, work, and pay their taxes abroad while still taking advantage of our domestic healthcare system. That kind of state negligence is something I will simply never understand.

A colleague of mine over in Ireland wrote yesterday, more or less saying, "I won't be coming back because I don't pay taxes in America." I can't say I've ever heard an example of such blatant integrity before. I'm not saying those people don't exist, obviously, but I certainly haven't heard them.

Life throws all sorts of fates at you, I guess. I usually just write about the people right in my own circle—you know, folks I actually see every day. And yeah, plenty of them end up drowning in debt, so they just pack up and head out.

As for those people who fly in just to take advantage of our healthcare system... well, those are the ones I love to poke fun at the most.
Take the crowd that shows up for a month during the summer just to get their teeth fixed; honestly, they’re everywhere.🙏

Yeah, you’re definitely not the only one scratching your head over this.

How are you guys actually handling being cut off from your loved ones?

I'll kick things off—my grandparents live in the next county over, totally alone. They can't just head to the doctor, grab meds, or even hit an ATM whenever they need to... they're basically trapped in a tiny town with one little corner store. And if you want a travel permit, they demand some "valid reason"—I mean, what could be more valid than that? Even if they grant it, it's only for a single day. But people need check-ins, you know? So, what, you seriously have to beg for permission every single time you want to look after your own family?!

On top of that, my boyfriend is only 20 minutes away, but I’d have to cross two different counties just to see him. We're toughing it out for now, hoping this doesn't drag on, but if this lasts more than a month or two? It's gonna be brutal for everyone.

Let me hear your thoughts and how you're feeling—let's try to lift each other up a bit.

Edit: maybe I didn't set this thread up quite right, so if a moderator could fix it up, that'd be great.

Look, I’m not entirely sure, but there was definitely talk about these permits being issued for a week at a time. I actually saw a neighbor with one sitting right there on their dashboard—it was clearly a weekly pass—so it’s obvious they are handing them out.

If they turn you down, you ought to demand a formal clarification from the Civil Protection Headquarters. I remember back when some of the local town halls were refusing to issue even basic passes for farming work; once enough people started making noise and filing inquiries, the national Civil Protection Headquarters had to step in and release an official statement to fix it.

Matthew Jackson2 said:Just read the interpretation from the Civil Protection Headquarters.

Since land cultivation—that is, agricultural work—can fall under category f), which covers "traveling to and from work if the task is essential and cannot be performed from home," as well as category e), regarding "purchasing food and basic necessities" as outlined in the Decision, instructions are being issued to Civil Protection Headquarters to issue passes to individuals requesting them for the purpose of land cultivation or performing agricultural work outside their area of residence.

The Headquarters doesn't want to, nor can they, get bogged down in whether you're making wine or just snacking on grapes; it's like nobody ever asks if you're turning your potatoes into mashed potatoes, fries, or vodka (unless you have to report alcohol production to the Tax Administration). In a worst-case scenario, you could even turn wine into high-proof spirits to create disinfectant, which is actually essential.

And here you are, acting all high and mighty, being more sanctimonious than the Pope himself, basically telling a man to go plant some vines in his front yard and wait years for the first harvest while his vineyard in another county completely rots away and becomes a breeding ground for pests. Absolute genius!

No, you're a real genius—especially if he already has a vineyard somewhere else, he'll probably have a couple of vines at home too...

You aren't going to make much ethanol out of wine; there's just not enough alcohol in it... it wouldn't be any good quality...

To make ethanol, you need something else that's grape-related...

The Headquarters doesn't care about you driving out to your vineyard to look after your own crops. Oops, you aren't allowed to do that! Wouldn't want you spreading the Corona to your orchard. That's just too dangerous...

So, uh, what's the UK actually like? Like, do you spend much time hanging out in the pubs there or what?

The travel ban barely slowed things down—maybe a 10% dip at most—since everyone has an e-Passport anyway.

While other countries are actually fighting the virus, America is just sitting back, watching what happens, and letting its citizens take the hit.

No, buddy, this isn't some "immigrant worker" perspective—I'm just describing exactly what I'm seeing back home in Lombardy (so that "blue-collar" comment is totally off base)👍 and trying to explain to you lot that if we want to fix this, we actually have to do it—isolation and staying put...
A smart person doesn't need the government telling them how to protect their own health... so, whose side are you on?
And this morning, I had to fill out a form just to walk 50 meters to buy bread, a quick loop around the block and back; people are standing in lines barely a foot apart, and wouldn't you know it, there's no police in sight...

And does your unemployment check come in regularly? And will it keep coming if this drags on for 8, 10, or 12 months?
Where I'm from, there's this stupid rule where if I don't earn, I don't have. 🤔

So, while we Americans are busy breathing down each other's necks and spitting in one another's faces, 🤦

You haven't a clue what the actual situation is here—you're just blathering from memory and trying to act smart.

In principle, yes, though we'll see how things play out later... my main concern right now is people's health and actually stopping this outbreak 👍
As for the money situation, you might want to reach out to the Government eventually.... there's nothing I can do to help you there 😉

So, are those e-Passports finally kicking in tomorrow?

What happens to the people who just got theirs approved yesterday or today—you know, the ones scheduled for this weekend or sometime next week?

Who on earth knows? 🙂 I just got mine approved yesterday, and now I’m sitting here wondering if it's even valid anymore.

I'm definitely not calling Civil Protection. Not a chance.

Sorry buddy, I just finally got around to looking at your comments—why would I even bother arguing with a global expert like you?😵
Seems you know more about life back home than I do. Luckily for me, being an American, I have much better sources than someone watching from Italy...

Malenica mentioned that they won't be issuing passes to anyone currently in quarantine—apparently, the system will flag them automatically. He also mentioned he’s hoping all the old, valid passes get swapped out for the new ones by Monday.

Ronald Howard3 said:The e-passport is going to be linked up with the Ministry of the Interior, Civil Protection, the IRS, Social Security... just wait until they link everything to phone tracking—we’ll turn into a total fascist wasteland. For instance, what were you actually doing at your cabin last week working the farm? Run a small business? Better write an explanation to the IRS... Or why did you show up at the office on Saturday if your hours are strictly Monday through Friday? Oh, you just stopped by to tidy some paperwork because you couldn't make it during the week? Here, have an e-ticket for illegal overtime work... Have a lovely day...☕

When you hand modern technology over to those North American-communist zombies... there are no limits.☕

Exactly.

An e-ID? Jawohl, mein Führer!

Or just put it on the arm. You know, back in the day, prisoners in concentration camps used to have numbers tattooed on their wrists. If this whole microchipping thing actually goes through, it’s going to feel way too much like that. It's pretty chilling when you think about it. ://

Look, here's the deal... anyone who actually had a legitimate reason for an e-Passport so far—like heading into work, looking after kids, or caring for elderly parents and stuff like that—isn't going to see any real change with these digital passes.

At least now the government can get a clear view of who actually needs to be in isolation, and maybe employers won't just hand out passes to people who have absolutely nothing to do with their business...
