I mean, I’ve got some way bigger things on my plate right now, so I don't exactly feel like stepping up as some big-hearted altruist or taking on everyone else's burdens. I wasn't exactly living for others before either—but honestly, lately? Even less so.

It’s not really like everything is on fire right now—unless, I guess, you choose to believe all those scary lies. If you go down that road, then sure, maybe the apocalypse is right around the corner.

Gary Martin12 said:Can someone please clarify what "close contact" actually entails? For instance, if an infected person was standing just a few feet away from me while handing me something, then left—that’s maybe three minutes of interaction. In that scenario, would I be considered a close contact?

Under our healthcare guidelines here in the States, that wouldn't count as close contact. You maintained some distance, I assume you were wearing masks, and the interaction was brief. It sounds like you followed all the standard protocols.

The local Elementary School in Oakland is basically a disaster zone compared to this.😁

It’s not the end of the world, but honestly, a total global massacre might actually be nice, kind of like that movie PURGE.😉

Someone I know in my apartment building is stuck in isolation right now. They’re dealing with some minor symptoms—fever, stuffy nose, things like that—and they’re just sitting around waiting for a call to get tested.
Isn't the standard procedure supposed to be that you report yourself first, and then they tell you when to show up? I don't really get this whole waiting game. Apparently, they called their doctor on Wednesday because they thought the symptoms were starting, and the doctor just ordered them into self-isolation.

I am uncertain whether this topic has already been addressed here or if I am the first to bring it up. These are the most recently updated guidelines regarding quarantine and isolation protocols. Please accept my apologies if this information has already been shared. This link was sourced directly from the official CDC website.

My symptoms kicked in on Sunday. A colleague also mentioned he's been dealing with a fever since Thursday along with a loss of taste and smell. I called an epidemiologist hotline that day, and they instructed me to isolate and contact my primary physician the following day. When I reached out to my clinic, the nurse took down my info and told me she'd let me know when I was scheduled. She called back later to confirm my testing appointment for Wednesday at DZ Siget. I had my results by the next day.

Got some news here, not sure if anyone else caught this.

People showing COVID symptoms are now being classified as "probable cases." According to Sunday's edition of The New York Times, this new status kicked in on Thursday, though we don't know the total count for the US yet.

Family doctors can now skip sending everyone with COVID-19 symptoms straight for a PCR test; instead, they can just order isolation. It lasts 10 days from when symptoms start, provided the patient has been symptom-free for the last three. These folks get tagged with a "probable COVID-19" diagnosis, or U07.2, per the paper.

"We got new guidelines a few days ago letting us treat symptomatic patients as probable positives. I’ve had cases where one family member tests positive via PCR, then everyone else starts feeling sick. Since you're waiting five days for a PCR result, I just diagnose them as probable cases. Once I finish my rounds, I log those U07.2 diagnoses into the system," said one general practitioner in Chicago.

Can you actually get sick leave based on this?

Best,

Honestly, why wouldn't you be able to take sick leave if you're actually ill and showing symptoms? As for the testing part... I don't really care.

A couple of our friends just caught it.
It started with their daughter—a college student—who had to isolate because her best friend came down with COVID. Within a few days, she developed a fever over 100 and some lingering symptoms. Then, about three or four days after she felt sick, her dad (our friend) started showing the exact same signs—basically flu-like symptoms plus that loss of smell. Finally, about three or four days after him, his wife caught it too.
None of them actually went for testing.
They just called their doctors and stayed home.
Even though they both work remotely part-time, they still had to take sick leave.
They aren't really sure how the government tracks this or if they even count toward the official statistics. They didn't ask, but we were chatting about it today.

Of course you can.

I guess I'm honestly a bit worried about a spike in people taking sick days soon. Instead of dealing with a ten-day quarantine, maybe all it takes is claiming you have the flu, faking the symptoms, spinning a quick story, and boom—you’re just staying home from work while testing negative.

Honestly, I think everyone’s dream is to call out sick and just hang out at the house, waiting to see if the local police decide to drop by for a wellness check.😵

Nobody is checking up on you, at least not any of those roughly 50 people I know have been sidelined.
But I doubt everyone is going to go running for sick leave—not really. It’ll mostly be those specific departments where taking time off won't actually hit their paycheck that hard. Just wait until the ladies working the registers at Target or Walmart catch onto the scheme.

In my neck of the woods, those guys on the list roll through almost every single day. You’d be better off sleeping in or, God forbid, taking the dog for a walk in the woods behind the house... just pure stupidity at this point.

Over the last three weeks, I’ve watched five of my closest friends test positive for COVID, and yet, the silence from the authorities has been deafening. Not a single health official has bothered to check if they were even home, let alone had an epidemiologist reach out to track the spread. It’s honestly absurd—none of their close contacts received any official notice or orders for self-isolation. And this is happening right here in the heart of Los Angeles, of all places.

So, I saw this guy asking if he’s allowed to walk his dog. He lives in a house and has been taking the dog out really early, like before 5 AM, and then super late at night. Apparently, they just told him he can't get near anyone, and while he was out, he was wearing a mask—and I don't mean some scrap of fabric, I mean an actual, legitimate face mask.
If you ask me, I think he's doing just fine.

Look, whatever she was rambling about doesn't change the reality. If you can't find them at home, they've either wandered off to some massive blowout party or disappeared into the woods to go chase a dog. =kazna
