If someone tests positive, the protocol is clear: per the CDC guidelines, they are supposed to list everyone they've been in contact with starting from when symptoms appeared and going back two days. Then, the officials tell them to provide the phone numbers and Social Security numbers of those contacts—and then actually *task* the patient with notifying those people about their isolation period (which, frankly, feels like we're putting all the work on the patient, but hey... here we are...).
Nobody actually does that anymore.
I'm literally in quarantine right now—we reported ourselves and our household because we were contacts, mostly because nobody else is doing half as much as they should.
As for the other people who were exposed, nobody called them either.
I've been hearing from plenty of people over the last few months that they never even got notified about needing to isolate; people just report their own families and that's pretty much it. If they even bother with that.

Absolutely nobody?
I’m currently sitting here in total isolation myself.
I was actually notified by someone who tested positive—someone who was told to reach out to their contacts and provide their phone numbers and info (which, let's be honest, is just doing what they're supposed to do).
The fact that people find it difficult, or simply don't want to, or try to act like they're above it—notifying those around them—is precisely what I meant earlier: it comes down to personal responsibility.
If the person testing positive doesn't notify their own contacts, how on earth is anyone else supposed to know?

They won't know, and honestly, they clearly don't give a damn.
Besides, everything has to be COVID-free before the season kicks off anyway.

Hey everyone, has anyone actually seen their sick leave or quarantine pay hit their bank account for April yet?

Hey, quick question—does anyone know how long it usually takes for those Medicare disability checks to actually hit your account?

I still haven't seen a dime from Medicare for that fourth month I was stuck in quarantine—and now, as of today, I’m right back in isolation again.

Are you working for some massive corporation or something?
Around here, those payments usually hit people's accounts toward the end of the month.

Nah, not even close... there's only about ten of us on staff. I honestly don't know if this is some kind of screw-up or just a glitch somewhere—I'm not even sure who to call about it. My boss swears up and down that everything was submitted perfectly fine.

I actually sent my own paperwork directly to Medicare myself, rather than having my employer handle it. I got a decision pretty quickly, and the money hit my account on the 18th.
I heard—though I haven't officially verified this—that if you get your papers in by the 5th of the month, you get the benefit within that same month. Otherwise, it looks like it lands the following month, probably around the 18th or 19th.

Can the police fine an American citizen if they enter the US while in self-isolation, even if they have a note from their employer (Commuter)?

Can an employer actually "punish" an employee—like issuing a formal warning or even firing them—if they end up having to quarantine because of contact outside of work? You know, things like private gatherings or traveling, especially if the job can't be done remotely?

Nah, not directly. But let’s be real—they can always find some other excuse to come after you. It won't be about the exposure or the quarantine itself, but they'll find something else to use against you! 😛

How do they actually stop people from abusing self-isolation rules?
Like, say I test positive, and then just out of pure spite, I tell everyone I was hanging out with them when I totally wasn't.
What’s the actual process for verifying that kind of stuff?

Goodness, is there really an issue like this too?!
It probably isn't prevented at all, honestly—but if someone actually tried that to me, well, after my 14 days were up, I might just wander over to their car, maybe give it a little scratch, pop a couple of tires, and so on.

Someone in my household just tested positive... how long do I need to quarantine since I'm a close contact?

Exactly as much as your doctor or the CDC tells you—nothing more, nothing less. Just call your physician. In my case, they told me zero days; if I felt fine, I could head straight to work. For someone else, they might order them to stay home. It’s all pretty arbitrary and based on individual guidance.

Thanks for the reply. I saw my doctor this morning, so I'll follow up with her tomorrow afternoon.
