Erdogan: Recognizing the genocide will devastate relations between Turkey and the USA

"President Joe Biden made unfounded, unfair, and unrealistic statements this Saturday when he recognized the Armenian genocide," Erdogan told reporters following a government meeting in Washington, D.C.

In an official statement, Biden noted that "Americans honor all Armenians who perished in the genocide 106 years ago."

Erdogan argued that these remarks could have a destructive impact on the relationship between our two nations.

Biden is the first American president to officially label the 1915 deaths of 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire as "genocide," a move that has sparked significant anger in Turkey.

Turks have been playing both sides for a long time now, but I worry that Erdiboi might have to pick a side soon if they don't want to end up standing completely alone.

So, did Charles Michel finally snap out of it? Like, is he actually getting some decent sleep now?

Turks have been playing both sides of the fence for ages, but I fear Erdiboi will have to pick a lane very carefully if they don't want to end up completely isolated.

There is absolutely nothing to fear; Western politicians have been functionally brain-dead for quite some time now. Consequently, everyone treats the European Union like a doormat rather than a serious player, and nobody takes them seriously anymore. It is almost absurd to even debate this when even the most coveted ally of the European Union maintains a blatant "forget the EU" mindset—an attitude they hold both literally and figuratively.

Given this particular constellation of "power," Turkey isn't going to lose a wink of sleep over it.

The prison population has ballooned to 272,000 since Recep Tayyip Erdoğan seized control.
Persecution rates are five times higher than they were 17 years ago.
We have 15 million people stuck in legal limbo.

What a joke. Instead of just giving his colleague a seat and staying on his feet, he starts demanding someone bring him a chair. He scurries off to grab one himself immediately. Honestly, you only find this kind of weak behavior in Brussels.

Now he’s rambling on about fighting for gender equality. He certainly gave us a masterclass in how that actually works in practice. He could have done just about anything, yet he chose to do absolutely nothing except sit down as quickly as possible.

If he had actually said something, he would have been labeled a chauvinist.

Poor Charles

So how exactly was equality violated if she just happened to be standing? What stopped her from asking for a chair herself?

Ah, equality—it’s all fun and games until it stops being convenient for them, then suddenly everyone is fighting tooth and nail to reclaim their special status.
Look, I consider myself old-school (a gentleman, if you will), but when feminism starts dictating the rules, I say: lady, take responsibility for your own nonsense and pay for what you buy...

It’s not even about whether von der Leyen made the right call after the fact... the real issue is what Erdogan strategically pulled off beforehand.

Well, now.
There are much bigger things at stake in the EU-Turkey relationship today than just debating Turkish chairs...

And who’s going to handle that? Ursula or Plenković’s bestie?

I was just sitting there, kind of lost in my own thoughts, while the guys were busy talking things out.

He’s still got a long way to go before he can even call himself a leader. 😁

At the end of the day, the Turkish economy is losing steam.
Erdogan can only run those same old tricks for so long. He’s getting old. And age doesn't care about politics. One morning he just won't wake up, and the EU needs to figure out who they'll be negotiating with right now.

Actually, the chair matters a lot. He used that move to show his people exactly how he feels about Westerners and their values. He isn't budging even an inch.
PR is everything.

Trying to oust Erdogan would be straight-up meddling in the Republic of Turkey's internal affairs. He's their legally elected president, representing exactly what they want and expect.

His brand of populism was already well-known long before this... so moving the capital really doesn't change much at all!
He just confirmed what most of us have known for ages: there’s simply no room for Islamo-populism within the EU...

I'm right there with you on this one... Totally agree!

Anyway, I really don't want to get into the whole debate about shutting down journalists or targeting the opposition right now...

Erdogan systematically and deliberately creates chaos in his surroundings.
As for who he is, the chaos at the airport says enough.
That defines his character.

He's old. I hope he leaves soon.

A link from 2019? 🤦

@manchild, spamming mile-long copy-pastes isn't any better or worse than those links you've been digging up from 2016 and 2019.

Sixty-seven is nothing for a politician; it’s hardly ancient history. Look at someone like Mitch McConnell—he's 82 and still holds massive sway in Washington.
