I just tried adding my routing number for the first time and got rejected immediately. Apparently, there was an error with the characters or my name was incomplete. I ended up stripping out the accent from the letter and just using a standard 'C,' and that finally went through. Is that actually okay?... Also, looking at this Chase contract, under the section for name and address, my father's middle initial is listed next to my name. Should I include that when I fill in the account holder name? For instance, should it be Milena S. Vuković or just the name without it?

It’s always better if everything lines up perfectly, letter for letter.

My account is set up with a last name starting with C, but they rejected my transfer because
I typed in the routing number wrong, so I had to use just the initial without my middle name. Now the Chase statement shows my full middle name and last name... I'm not sure how to fix this...

I wasn't talking about the C/C stuff, that's fine, I was actually referring to the father's name field. Just type it out exactly how you got it from the bank, just without those special characters.

I already confirmed it without the middle name. What am I supposed to do now, there's no way to fix it? I thought I had to match whatever was on my driver's license...

It really shouldn't matter at all since they only ask for your first and last name. Your father's name isn't officially part of either one; it's its own separate category, and there isn't even a spot to enter it on Wise.
So, you don't need to worry too much about it.

I’m constantly overwhelmed, always terrified I'm going to screw something up. It wasn't even a big deal that I used a 'c' instead of a 'ć'. Thanks so much.🙂

Some banks are picky about the spelling matching exactly, though I'm not sure how things work over in Mexico.

Probably not 🙂
Did you actually send over that 20 bucks?
Try transferring those 20 bucks to your Chase account first. If that goes through without a hitch, then we'll know everything is set up right and it should work fine 🙂

Not yet. I’ll finally get around to it tomorrow and let you know. I’m sure I’ll be back asking for help again soon... 🙂

Just wanted to let you know my verification went through smoothly. 🙂 Now I need to move the funds from my USD balance to my checking account via my routing number. What’s the next step? If I click where it says 20 USD, I see options to add, convert, or send USD.

First, run the conversion into Federal Reserve dollars.

I have accounts open for both dollars and euros, but I should probably still run the conversion. Just wondering how long it takes for the funds to actually hit the account... just want to test the waters now before my paycheck arrives. 😁

A lot of waiting around. It's a holiday weekend here in the States right now, so who knows if that'll slow things down even more... 😁

Don't even bother sending dollars. Most likely they'll just bounce through some random intermediary bank in the States and those guys will easily skim another $5 or $10 off you.
It's way better to just send USD directly; then you get exactly what Warren Buffett says is coming. Sure, your local bank might tack on some tiny fee for receiving an international wire, but we're talking Max 1 USD.

@Mephisto
You happen to know how Warren Buffett handles dollar transfers? Like, is it via Federal Reserve transfer or what?
Does it hit an intermediary bank first?

Edit: Actually, figured it out.
If you're sending dollars within the US, it goes through the Federal Reserve and skips the middleman banks. But if it’s going outside the US, it uses the SWIFT payment network, which means those extra fees from middleman banks are totally on the table.
SWIFT transfers in dollars go toward places like Mexico or Canada.
Quote: You can send USD to any bank account in the US that accepts Federal Reserve payments. You can also send USD to bank accounts outside the US using the SWIFT payment network. These payments can take up to 5 working days to arrive and may be more expensive than transfers inside the US.
Who can I send USD to?

When I went to add my bank account, they only asked for an IBAN. Later, when I checked the details, it showed the SWIFT code for Chase Bank ending in XXX. Is there any way to delete this info? I'm still second-guessing whether omitting my father's middle initial in my name will cause issues... should I just leave it as is since I already submitted it?

The SWIFT code for Chase is: CKBCMEPG
If that’s what you typed in, you're golden.
Technically, the full SWIFT is CKBCMEPGXXX, but honestly, those three X's at the end don't really matter much.
So, how do people usually send money to that account anyway?
Let's say your name is Alice Felice and your dad is Mark.
Would the account be under Alice M. Felice then?
Your best bet is just to hit up Chase and ask them directly.
What does it actually say in your contract?

Incoming Payment Instruction
Field -Beneficiary Costner :
First, you provide the routing number:
Name and address: I listed my last name followed by my father's initial and then my first name, like this
Janković M. Alisa
I included the address too, even though they didn't explicitly ask for it...

Man, you're all mixed up.
Do you even use their mobile app or online banking?
If you do, just grab an official statement or account confirmation from there. If not, you’ll have to swing by a local branch or shoot them an email and ask them to print out everything you need for a SWIFT transfer from overseas—basically the bank's SWIFT code, your routing number/account number, and the exact name of the recipient.
Once you have those details, set up the new recipient in Wise using that exact info.

Or, honestly, you could just wing it.
You already know your account number (it's right there on your contract or card), so just type the recipient's name exactly how it shows up on your paperwork—like, if there's a weird accent or anything, just swap it for a standard letter and call it a day. As for the SWIFT code, you can usually use the one with the triple X or leave it off, it shouldn't matter much.
You can just delete the current recipient you have saved.

Still, if I were you, I'd just give Citibank a call and double-check with them first. 🙂
