jupii, stoked to see it finally arrived!
Hit us up if anything seems funky or confusing 🙂

Glad I could help you out 🙂

So, how much did Chase hit you with for the wire transfer fee?

It says the fee is 0.13%, pretty decent 🙂 Thanks again 🙂

The funds hit my Wise account yesterday and they’re already cleared in my bank today. Thanks again to everyone who helped out, especially Daniel Torres for all the detailed breakdowns...

The main thing is that the cash actually hits your account

I’ve been playing around with Revolut lately, and honestly, it seems like a pretty solid tool. I’ve already used their virtual and single-use cards a few times without any issues. Does Wise offer anything similar, and if so, would you guys recommend making the switch from Revolut to Wise?

Wise offers both virtual and physical cards.
You can hold up to three virtual ones at once, but if you delete one, you can just spin up another right away. Honestly, when it comes to how reliable they are for shopping online, Revolut and Wise are pretty much in the same ballpark.
I've been using Wise for a few months now and I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Wise is actually a much better deal when you factor in the currency exchange rates and all those various fees. You really need to sit down, look at what your specific needs are, and then decide whether to pick a more cost-effective tier or just mix and match the best features from different services to cover your bases, because every single one comes with its own set of pros and cons.

Are you kidding me? You can't even top up with a Diners Club card? If you use a Visa premium, those scammers just hit you with a 2.5% fee, but Diners won't even process because it's asking for 16 digits while Diners only has 14!

You got Curve?
Just link a Diners Club card to your Curve, then toss that Curve MC onto Wise and use it to cover the difference.

I don't have Curve. What's the deal with their international exchange rates?

It's solid.

Curve offers the best exchange rates out there—they’re practically mid-market. Honestly, they consistently outperform even the best rates you can find on Revolut. With Revolut, the rate is constantly fluctuating, so you often end up getting stuck with a worse deal. The only real catch is that 500 GBP limit every 30 days.

So I did a little digging on this Chrve stuff and honestly, that £500 limit looks pretty lame.

Since those idiots over at Chase are too incompetent to support anything other than a handful of specific cards on Apple Pay, is there any way to bypass their nonsense?
Basically, I’d grab a Curve card, add it to Apple Pay, and then set that Chase Visa card as the "source" for the funds.
That way, I can just tap my phone to pay, but the actual charge hits my Visa?
Like if some XY item costs $333, I just whip out my phone, hit Apple Pay via Curve, and boom.
Will the final cost of $333 still show up on that pathetic Chase app? And won't they try to screw me with some predatory 2.5% fee for using "other payment instruments," just like they do when I try to top up Revolut?

Also, what if I'm in a third-world country—like somewhere you can't find an exchange booth, say Thailand?
If I'm paying for something in local currency like THB, will Curve just convert, say, 1000 THB into USD at the interbank rate (let's say it's $67) and just charge my linked Visa card $67 and call it a day? Is there really zero extra cost as long as I stay under that £500 limit every 30 days?

Everything should line up exactly how you laid it out. I don't personally carry a Visa Premium, so I can't give you a firsthand account, but I've seen several people mention that the 2.5% fee doesn't apply if you route the transaction through Curve. Just one thing to watch out for: Curve tends to tack on a commission for currency exchange over the weekend, so keep an eye on that.
With Curve, you basically get to decide which currency your card gets charged in. For example, if you're in the United Kingdom and you hit a £500 limit on your Curve card, you just go into the app and switch the settlement currency for your Chase Visa premium to British Pounds (instead of whatever default it started as, like Euros). Once you do that, it’s effectively the same as if you were using a high-end Visa premium card directly in the UK paying in GBP.

Fine. I guess I'll just try my luck with Curve since it's all a waste of time anyway.

Thanks

They’ve finally slashed those pesky international transfer fees in USD!

But unfortunately, they aren't heading in opposite directions. Converting from the Eurozone back to USD is still insanely expensive...

And honestly, it’s still way too expensive. You’re looking at a 7.5 spread on Revolut, and then you’ve still got to deal with those $0.00 transaction fees
. At this rate, it would almost be cheaper to just walk into a Chase branch, buy the currency, and wire the dollars directly.

I don't actually use Bill Gates, but I was wondering if it's possible to receive payments in dollars directly into a Bill Gates account and then just spend them using the Bill Gates card, all without having to transfer any money back to my local bank account?
