Is that even a real possibility? An AO at 66 kw $379? I mean, sure, if you’re counting on a 50% chance

Karen Doyle72 said:$127 My insurance is actually cheaper than last year—and it’s down to $480 compared to what I was paying two years ago! It dropped from $1,145 all the way down to $255. 👍
And get this—I didn't change a single thing on my policy (just basic coverage plus the usual 40k-80k, 50%, 40 kW stuff), I literally just switched insurance companies. 😁

It’s honestly unbelievable how these insurance companies—kind of like the big telecom giants here—value you way more when you jump ship from a competitor than they ever do for your actual loyalty. Like, seriously? After 26 years of driving without a single accident or claim on any of my vehicles, the "best" offer my current provider could give me is still a third more expensive than the quote I got just for switching over.

Which company are you using?

Are we talking about doing this online, or actually dragging yourself down to a branch?

I checked both the physical offices here in the States and the online portals—used that Compare.com link to scout out everything from Geico and State Farm over to Progressive...

I still can't freaking believe it. 🕺

Looking at Wiener through Compare, it came out to $414, but then checking today's special offer from Liberty Mutual, it’s sitting at 1138

It could honestly be even lower, I guess, even if we're talking about NYC. And of course, you'd probably have to toss in another one or two questions. Some people are looking for the owner's details, while others want the specific car model too.

If you're hanging out in the DA area, I don't know, but maybe $233 isn't totally out of reach 😬

NYC is on the table. Owner is 38 years old and in good standing. Let me know if you can beat $379

I mean, I was just saying that it’s doable. For my purposes, the specific car model makes all the difference in the math, so I guess I can probably get back to you with those details tomorrow.

Last year, when I first registered a car in my own name, I started by checking Compustar and then hit up various local insurance agencies... Since I didn't have any no-claims bonus yet (meaning I was paying the full 100% premium), I wasn't asking for discounts or expecting anyone to throw in freebies... After hitting up 8 or 9 different companies, the quotes I received varied by more than $333... My cheapest option was $627, while the most expensive one was $973...
To be clear, this was without any bonus applied—I was still at 100%. This year, I'll be at 90% once the registration goes through... This was just the raw difference in their base offers...
So, I still think it’s better to go see an agent in person and actually sit down to talk things through with them...

Honestly, there isn't much of a difference between calling me or meeting up in person—if I’m in a position where I can offer you a discount, I’ll give you that same price whether we talk over the phone or face-to-face, though I guess the main perk of the phone is just having a direct line if anything suddenly changes. Just... please, don't go rushing into things with the very first person you happen to stumble upon.

@Hannah Allen5, I just sent that breakdown over to your inbox via DM.

Maybe I didn't explain myself well. What I meant was that it's better to reach out to all the insurance companies directly—either by phone or in person—to see what they actually offer instead of just blindly trusting whatever pops up on Google. Since I live right near a local DMV, almost every major insurer had an office within a five to ten-minute walk from my place, so I just went into every single one to talk to them personally.

Sure, that approach works for a handful of people, I guess. But when it comes to those online quotes you see floating around, they can be pretty vague, and honestly, they might not even give you a remotely accurate picture of what's actually going on. On the flip side, one silver lining is that if you're looking at a massive premium, you actually have more leverage to haggle the price down. Especially if the agent isn't strictly picky about who gets a discount—like, maybe it makes more sense for them to burn a limited 10% discount on a policy from $1000 rather than wasting it on some tiny $1,000 plan, right?

Just wanted to drop a quick recommendation for Comparere.com—I am seriously impressed! Before I signed up, I was emailing all sorts of insurance companies for quotes, mostly because I had such a bad run with Euroace. Their agent tried to sneak in some extra coverage by claiming it was "new industry standard" for everyone, but after checking with another provider, I realized she was totally pulling my leg. Live and learn, right? This time, I did my homework and used Comparere.com to insure my car without any hiccups—plus, I snagged a deal that was 40% cheaper than last year (can you believe that?!). I actually bought the policy a few days early so it kicks in right as the old one expires, which meant I could head straight to the DMV with the digital policy ready to go instead of scrambling for printouts. It’s so refreshing to finally have a service like this that actually gives people real options and stops those big corporate insurance giants from just bleeding us dry!

Does anyone know if there’s a cheaper option out there? My insurance renewal is coming up in September... I'm looking at a 2007 model, 44 KW, with a 40% bonus. Last year, my premium through Allianz came out to $0.38.

Just got a notice from my insurance provider saying they’ve updated their collision coverage terms—apparently, I have the option to switch over to the new ones if I want.
Does anyone actually know what the deal is here? I really don't feel like calling the agency; those conversations always drag on way longer than they need to.

Maybe check the calculator on the Allianz website. Honestly, nobody could beat the rate you got; everyone else I talked to was at least a hundred bucks more expensive.

Thanks. I just ran the numbers on my end $318...nice. Now I just need to Google where their nearest office is in Los Angeles.

I'm not totally sure if they'll give you that same deal at a local branch. This looks like one of those online-only promotions, so it might be worth a shot though... Personally, I just signed up and paid with my card through the website, and the policy showed up at my house in about four days.
