I’m on the hunt for the cheapest auto insurance I can find. I’ve got a 50% safe driver discount, over ten years of driving under my belt without a single accident or anything, so my record is clean. Right now, I’m sitting with State Farm, and they’ve been charging me $767 for a 175hp car. Meanwhile, I just got a quote from an Adriatic provider for $600. Where else should I be looking?

What’s the license plate number?

I tried doing some side-by-side comparisons online, but once you actually step foot inside a branch office, the whole thing falls apart... take State Farm, for instance, $565 but when I showed up at their local office, it turned out to be $633—and then they have the nerve to make you hunt down these little vouchers (3 of them) just to get to $600.

On San Francisco, you buy directly at the quoted price without having to visit a local office. Once you pay, you can just print the policy for technical purposes. Then, the verified paperwork gets sent to you by mail later.

I could really use some advice here. I need to renew my car insurance soon, and I’m looking to add collision coverage to the mix as well.

A few people have told me straight up: don't you dare split them up—get your liability and your collision from the same carrier. Others, though, say it doesn't matter at all. As I've been shopping around, I've noticed that some companies offer killer rates on liability while others are much more competitive on the collision side. It looks like it might actually be cheaper to bundle different policies from different providers, so I wanted to reach out and see what your experiences have been with this?

Just to clarify, none of the insurance companies I've spoken to so far have required me to tie the collision coverage to their liability policy.

In my opinion, it's usually better to get both your liability and comprehensive from the same provider for a few different reasons—though, obviously, it isn't a requirement.
Also, just something to keep in mind: the cheapest option isn't always the best or most reliable one, especially when you're looking at comprehensive coverage.

Does anyone here actually have any first-hand experience dealing with Unique insurance?

I'm thinking about picking up some collision coverage from them, if you know what I mean.

Just make sure you go for full coverage with zero deductible🙂

Honestly, even with a deductible, having full coverage is a total lifesaver if you can find that sweet spot where the deductible and your discount actually make sense together...

Hi there!

I’m driving a 40KW Smart—it serves as my secondary vehicle—while my primary car gets a 50% discount. For the Smart, I used to get about 30% off as a second car, though I can't recall the exact figure right now. With all these recent price drops, I'm wondering what kind of deal I can snag on the Smart this year. Last year, my premium with Allstate was around $1,850$633 if my memory serves me right. Does anyone know what the lowest possible rate is currently, and where should I look? Thanks!

Since you're heading to St., I'd suggest looking around. Honestly, the best deal I managed to snag was at the State Farm branch on American Civil War Street—it's right across from Chase. And that was actually two months ago, so it might be worth a shot now...

How far in advance can I actually lock in a new policy before my current AO one expires? Is it possible to get everything squared away a few months early?

If I currently have a 50% no-claims discount on one of my vehicles, would I be able to apply that same 50% bonus to a second car if I insure it under my own name? I was wondering if any providers, such as Allstate
, actually offer that kind of flexibility.

So, my old man hasn't had an auto insurance policy in his own name for the last four years. Before that gap, he was sitting on a 50% discount... now I'm wondering, did he totally blow that bonus, or can he still get it back?

Can I stack another car to hit that 50% bonus threshold?

Unless there has been a recent shift in industry regulations, those claims-free bonuses typically expire after three years of continuous coverage.

Allianz might give you a 5-year bonus, maybe something like State Farm or Liberty Mutual would offer 7 years—and I think GEICO actually goes as far as 10 years in some cases
