Is the confirmation email from Chase enough for the technical inspection, or am I going to have to wait for the official certified paperwork to arrive with everything else? Also, does anyone know roughly how long that usually takes to show up?

I really don't want them giving me any grief during the inspection because of a missing document.
Thanks!

An email confirmation should be enough for now. I guess the certified policy will show up in the mail in a few days.

You should probably double-check what’s actually included in the Comparis quote.

I got an email with a breakdown that didn't even mention passenger insurance, and after I went back and dug through the policy details myself, it turns out the price totally matches that lack of coverage.

Honestly, the way these insurance companies have been playing games for months now looks super shady. The payouts they’re approving just don't seem right. It's about time Hana steps in and does something about it. Finally...

I don't see anything suspicious about it, honestly. Why should I? I mean, if you can sell something for $33 and actually have the receipts to prove it, who exactly has the right to step in and try to stop you?

The real issue, in my opinion—and this is something we desperately need federal legislation to fix—comes down to two main things. First off, all insurance companies ought to be paying out actual, realistic damages, and those payouts should be clearly defined by law, or at least estimated by some kind of independent third party if they aren't. That just isn't how it works today, though. You've got these companies offering to pay out barely half the amount when their own policyholder is clearly at fault. Then you have others trying to claim reimbursement rights in situations that are just completely absurd. Look, if these insurance giants are capable of running a business and paying out claims based on the real cost of damage, then fine, let them hand out policies for free if they feel like it.

The second thing is that I really think it should be legally mandated here that "direct coverage" means I am the one who paid for the mandatory insurance, and whether my choice was good or bad, it should work for or against me accordingly. We shouldn't be stuck in this current mess where contractors hand out policies like they're junk mail and then turn around and cheap out on the actual claims. I’d love to see anyone actually pay for an insurance policy that’s only going to cover 20% of their losses 😁

Basic liability and damage payouts aren't your concern,
If you hit someone with your car, it comes out of your policy. If someone hits you, it comes out of theirs.

Does anyone have any insight into whether auto insurance premiums are actually going to continue their downward trend?

Doubtful, honestly.🤦
But hey, nothing's impossible, I guess... 🕺

Look, I actually work in the insurance industry, so I know what I'm talking about here 😁 That's why I used the phrase "should be," because, well, if you break your leg, the compensation $5000. After all that, every insurance company just sets its own price based on whatever makes sense for their bottom line. Even if the premium was only $33 per policy (though I honestly doubt anyone would stay in this business if that were the case, since it'd be impossible to close 10 to 20 policies every single day 😬

Also, if I'm remembering correctly, the way things work out there is that your own insurance pays out the claim under your liability policy, and then they go after the at-fault party's insurance to get reimbursed later. If that’s how we did things here in the States, people wouldn't be obsessing over saving a measly $200-$$100, instead of just looking at $20 😁

I mean, if we actually utilized the full range of options that insurance companies offer, I think the average policy would probably be about 50% cheaper than it was a year and a half ago. I guess that speaks for itself—if rates do drop, they probably won't drop by much more.

So now I’m sitting here wondering if anyone—maybe some folks working over at State Farm or Progressive 😁

could actually make sense of this for me. Basically, we have a policy with a 50% discount applied, and there aren't any claims on record that would justify using that history toward a different policy. But when I go to check that second policy, the bonus is sitting at 0% (premium level 10). Like, how is that even possible? Why on earth would that happen? I mean, I totally get it if we're just issuing a brand-new policy from scratch during a renewal and it defaults to level 10, but why in the world does it say the previous policy was already used?

I ran into this exact situation once: a friend of mine jumped ship to State Farm because they offered him a 50% discount. A month later, I checked the records via HBO and saw the exact same thing you're seeing. I called State Farm to clarify, and they basically admitted it's just an internal gimmick. They let clients build up their actual discount through the standard HBO channels, but they show 50% on the paperwork to make the deal look better. To make matters worse, they made him agree that one of his parents had to switch over to them too, otherwise he'd have to pay the difference in price.
And just like that, I lost two clients.

Ugh, I know, I know, but look—I was just double-checking things for one of my clients who had a policy set up with Allianz where we managed a 50% discount (even though everything there has to follow strict rules), and she actually had a total loss on her car, but technically there isn't any damage recorded under the policy itself. Her next policy would be through GEICO without any bonus, and that Allianz policy was basically used to qualify for this new one (because to jump straight to level 10, you'd need three claims).

I’m well aware that a bonus earned through duplication or other methods might show up as premium level 10, but in those cases, the insurer is required to issue a formal bonus certificate when you switch over to a different company. I guess what I’m trying to say is, I don't really care about the discrepancy between what's printed on the physical policy versus what shows up on HBO; my point is about when you suddenly leap from level 1 to level 10 out of nowhere. I mean, if it jumped from 1 to 6, I could wrap my head around that being due to a different vehicle, but this? It makes no sense.

So, I stumbled upon this comparison tool by accident, and it’s showing me a much better rate. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger in February when I have to go in for my state inspection to get my insurance sorted for roughly $100, which is about $317. Last year, I ended up paying somewhere around $420, but now I’ve just read somewhere that the price they're quoting might not actually include tax.
Has anyone here actually tried buying a policy online? I'm wondering if it really ends up being cheaper or not—specifically, is the final price on the actual policy they mail to you the same as the one you see while you're hunting for deals online?
Thanks!

Look, do whatever you want, but I’m telling you, you better double-check EVERY single piece of data. I know this one guy on a forum who ended up getting hit with extra xyz costs and lost an entire day just because of a wrong VIN—and the thing is, you aren't even typing that stuff in manually, it's pulled straight from the ABA, yet apparently, nobody noticed the error last year.

So, honestly, my advice? Just call an insurance company directly to check the price; it doesn't necessarily have to be cheaper than what you see on Comparet.

I’m trying to hunt down the absolute cheapest insurance provider out there for basic auto coverage and I have a bit of a specific situation going on, like, my car is about 4 years old and packs around 120kW under the hood, plus I’ve been a pretty solid driver so I’m sitting on a 50% no-claims discount right now. I’ve already gone ahead and requested a few quotes from different places, but honestly, I feel like I'm being totally played because they keep trying to bundle in passenger insurance when I really couldn't care less about that extra fluff!

They basically force accident insurance on you because if they didn't include it, the whole calculation would look like a scam just to drive down the price. The real issue arises when they charge you for it anyway, even after you explicitly told them you didn't want it—I mean, I actually dealt with this recently while setting up a policy where the client was super clear about skipping that coverage. Of course, there were always those people who ended up wanting the premium package instead, so they got charged 😁

If you’re looking to get a quote (or maybe try to negotiate a better deal), I’d just need to know the vehicle model, the state where it's registered, and the owner's details—you can just shoot me a DM if that's easier.

Hey

Does anyone have a clue what my registration would run for a 2.4 engine, maybe around 135hp? Like, roughly how much insurance I'd be looking at... over in the Chicago area

Should I go with an Alfa Romeo 156? Or maybe a 166? Those are the two that immediately jump to mind, specifically looking at the 2.4 engine with about 135 horsepower. Besides that, the extra perks matter too, and which city in that part of the country are we talking about—maybe somewhere near Chicago, Detroit, or maybe Atlanta? Also, how old is the driver, and if they aren't from one of those spots, what’s their age and what kind of car are they driving right now?

Edit: I just realized the car model is actually listed on the other side of the forum 😁 but everything else I asked is still totally relevant to me 🙂

Forget about it... honestly. We're talking about an AR 156 1.9 77kw--so, what would the total even look like? Maybe with a 50% discount applied out in St. Louis

Quick question... if a car is already deregistered, do I still have to deal with that 5% transfer tax, or is that off the table? Just wondering what kind of fees I'm actually looking at for a vehicle like that.
