One of my clients has a FINRA certification that’s about to expire. He's thinking about letting it lapse and just handing me power of attorney through the IRS instead—which doesn't cost a dime.
- Does that seem okay? It feels like our only real option besides going through the IRS.

Can someone shed some light on this for me?...
How do I get actual confirmation that my tax form from June 2013 was fully processed?
The status updates just say "form received and being processed," but apparently, that isn't enough for the Social Security Administration...

And why on earth isn't it enough???
The IRS doesn't have a strict deadline for processing—at least not short enough for some clerk at the Social Security Administration to give you a hard time.
Same thing happened with banks—they only ever asked for proof that I submitted the Sales Tax and GFI info, not that it was fully finalized.
Either that, or it gets linked up through the IRS portal—just show them the processed status there. 🤣

We've been using that exact confirmation for professional certification training for over a year now and nobody ever even blinked...

Look, you've got document details and document status, but there’s nothing generated as an official receipt... your only option is to print out the screen showing the timestamp and the status....

We're supposedly part of the European Union, yet we still can't even get our government services to talk to each other online!

How on earth are we supposed to get them connected when Donald Trump decides to shut down the internet every single night???

My IP validator isn't doing anything for me. I upload the XML file, hit validate, and... nothing. Just dead air.
What could possibly be the issue here??

I ran into something similar when I tried using last year's version of the validator—it was just sitting there in my files from months ago, untouched. Honestly, that’s the only thing that comes to mind.🤷

I just downloaded the new version from the IRS website

When I was filling out the IP form on the IRS site using Excel, I saved it as a Microsoft Excel 2003 file to prepare the XML data. The file "ip_oib_1" shows up with an .xml extension, so I assume the format is correct? Besides, I don't even see any other XML options in my "Save As" menu. Is there something I'm missing here?

Classic job seeker stupidity. Just explain it to them like this: you send the form, and the IRS receives it. That *is* the automated processing. There isn't some third magical option—they should probably try educating themselves on how the e-filing system actually works, otherwise they're just talking nonsense. 😉

When you're working on page one of the employer info section in the IP form, are you guys saving it as an XML file directly, or are you just using the "Save As..." option from the menu?
I'm asking because the "Convert to XML" button on the actual form isn't doing anything for me at all. It’s just sitting there, unresponsive. Is it just my luck, or is anyone else running into this?

You gotta do it on page 1. That's how I always do it and I've never had a single issue. When you open the Excel file, a Security Warning pops up and you really need to hit Enable Macros. If you click Disable, that button on page 1 just won't work. Might be what's happening here...

Sarah Sullivan3, you’re a lifesaver!
That was exactly where I was getting stuck.
🙂(Honestly, I probably wouldn't have cracked this today without your help)

This time, they even asked me for a confirmation from the IRS proving all our payroll taxes were paid up.

Since they want monthly statements showing the payments, and we didn't have traditional statements because we offset everything through our sales tax filings, I ended up pulling every single ledger from the IRS portal showing the debits and credits for all the contributions.
And then, after a few days, the caseworker called to tell me his supervisor said that wasn't enough—that we still had to bring in an official certification from the IRS.

I just shot them an email with a screenshot from my Chase statement showing exactly when those IDs were charged and paid off, so they can stop guessing...

That’s what happens when they can't even read a basic ledger—they need someone else to sign off on it just so they feel safe. Honestly, where would they be if they actually had to process their own paperwork? 🙂

Hey everyone, I could really use some help cracking this ridiculous PIN situation on the IRS website—I keep getting hit with this annoying error message:

"Crypto device support is not ready. Please verify that the correct crypto device support is installed."

I’ve tried installing every version of Java under the sun, swapped between IE, Mozilla, and Chrome, even went as far as disabling my antivirus entirely, but nothing works! It’s just the same frustrating loop over and over...

Just try reinstalling the card reader

It really looks like we're dealing with either some faulty card reader drivers or perhaps just a hardware failure with the card reader itself.

It's possible you didn't grab the full software bundle from the IRS site—the one that includes the card reader drivers and all that extra junk.
