Can someone please tell me what I should do if I’ve already filed my tax return, but then realized I missed some information? I’m planning on heading down to the IRS office with a new copy and the number from the one I already turned in. Has anyone dealt with this before? Will they accept it that way?

Yeah, they will.

Thanks. 🙂Do I need to attach anything else, or should this be enough?

Thanks for the input, everyone. Seems like a lot of you are still waiting on your sales tax processing too...
Usually, it takes maybe a day or two, so I was starting to get a little twitchy. I even tried calling the IRS help line and my local agent, but nobody had a clue what was going on, so I just told them:
What am I supposed to call, the Secretary of the Treasury? Honestly, we’re all so buried under these endless new forms and constant rule changes that
it's hard to tell who's actually running the show anymore. It feels like one constant headache, just trying to make sure everything stays above board... I swear, my heart skips a beat every time some tiny detail
doesn't line up perfectly, meanwhile these corporate crooks get millions in tax breaks handed to them on a silver platter. :-(

I finished processing all the sales tax for January today—but my balances aren't lining up with what I'm seeing on the ETA system. Specifically, the debit/credit amounts are totally off from the actual balance... anyone else running into this? Hehehe... clearly something is wonky over there.

A new interface popped up yesterday—and apparently, they finally enabled VAT refunds dating back to January 2014.
Some of the clerks don't even realize this is an option yet—you'll probably have to give them a nudge over the phone.😍

Could it just be an issue with the value date?

I just finished running my January sales tax figures today too.
But I ran into a bit of a headache immediately. When I pull the ETA report with today's date, everything looks fine. But then I tried pulling a report dated March 1st, 2014 (just checking some accounts), and the totals were completely wrong. Then it clicked—the system is automatically calculating interest for that period.

Basically, the system shows the tax was filed but hasn't been paid yet (due by Feb 28th), so it jumped straight to adding interest for the March 1st calculation. The weird part is that this doesn't show up on the individual tax cards, only on the summary sheet. On the individual level, the math adds up perfectly.
Their reporting cards are incredibly confusing.

I went through the exact same thing with my year-end balance from December 31st, 2013. The ledger showed one amount, but the account card showed something completely different. They finally got it sorted out earlier this week.

It’s honestly a relief to know I'm not the only one dealing with this lag; I was starting to worry I'd messed something up on my end...🙄

I turned in all my forms on the 20th—both for last year and this first month of the new year... absolutely nothing has moved yet. Just those unspecified ones.

Is it an issue if my sales tax return isn't signed?
Technically, I did sign it. The IRS system indicates the form is signed—I even printed out the electronic signature confirmation—and I submitted everything properly. I have the receipt showing it was successfully received along with the processing date.
For some reason, their printout apparently doesn't show the digital signature. 😕

All my filings have been processed. I can see they handled the January returns after six days, on the 26th. Though, naturally, they haven't updated the payment status yet.

My balances were a total mess when I filed the quarterly tax reports. When I looked at everything line by line, the debit amounts on the individual accounts matched the tax forms perfectly, but when I tried to calculate the totals, every single debit on the general ledger was off by a few cents compared to what was reported on the filing 🤷 once those payments finally cleared, those missing cents just mysteriously vanished into thin air 😕

It is quite impossible to submit an unsigned form while simultaneously holding confirmation that it was successfully filed...
I fail to see where any complication might arise, other than the likelihood that they will simply request a resubmission; I would suggest keeping that confirmation on hand just in case...

My own sales tax filings haven't been processed yet either...

I have confirmation that has been signed, though I’ve only printed the digital signature verification page (it isn't really a certificate, more just a printout showing that 🙂 was electronically signed).
The signing was completed prior to submission. The IRS received it, and I have the acknowledgment receipt.
However, when I attempt to download the document for my records, the form appears without my electronic signature.
It is quite perplexing..

Do you have confirmation that the transmission actually went through? Is it possible the submission didn't finalize after you applied the signature?

I have everything. It shows up right alongside the other submitted forms.
Everything is printed out; if they call, I’ll show them.
It might just be an issue on their end...

I was wondering if maybe someone could lend me a hand with reissuing a digital certificate? My business certificate actually expired today, so I headed over to the official site to get everything sorted out:

But here’s the thing—when I get to the section where my personal data shows up (and the certificates themselves actually appear correctly, which is good!), I try to sign everything and hit submit, but I just keep getting this error message: "Certificate issuance request verification failed."

I'm not quite sure what the catch is, or why it keeps happening...

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

I'm not positive, but I think you can only renew certificates online if they haven't actually expired yet.

That’s definitely possible, so I think I’ll just give them a call tomorrow and we can hopefully get some real answers then. Thanks!

I mean, I only realized my certificate had already expired after I’d tried logging in several times, and honestly, why would anything ever be straightforward when everything in this country seems to be unnecessarily complicated?

It feels like we’d need at least three full-time employees just to handle their constant little tech updates.

It's just such a headache.

java 7 update 51!!!!

I’ve been having a total nightmare trying to sign my tax forms ever since my java updated. I actually went to the official site to find a fix, but even following their instructions isn't working for me... So, here’s the deal: I download the RDC certificate, open java, go to Security, then Manage Certificates, but when I try to actually import the RDC into the Signer CA, I just get hit with this:
ERROR IMPORT CERTIFICATE
UNRECOGNIZED FILE FORMAT
NO CERTIFICATE WILL BE IMPORTED

I don't get it. Does this mean I messed up the RDC download or what...

First thing you gotta do is check if your certificates have actually expired.

If they haven't timed out yet, try this workaround: java -> Security -> Manage Certificates

1. From the dropdown menu, pick Signer CA -> Import, then find that public IRS certificate you saved to your drive earlier (you probably grabbed it from a link like this http://www.irs.gov/certificates/public-cert)

2. Then, switch the dropdown to Secure Site CA -> Import and select that same IRS public certificate you downloaded

Hit Close, then Apply/OK, and hopefully it works...
