Someone needs to update Java to version 67 already.

Is anyone else having issues with the IRS website?

I keep getting this annoying error message

•Unable to submit form; please try again. If this error persists, please contact customer support.

I’ve already run the checks through the portal—these are my sales tax filings—but every time I hit submit, I get slapped with this warning. After five tries, it finally went through, but still. 🙂

Looks like the tech team at the Treasury is messing with the app again. 👏

You aren't alone... I had the exact same thing happening when I was using TurboTax...

I was wondering if anyone could perhaps shed some light on how power of attorney works here.
I’ve already managed to get my certificate and card sorted out, but I suppose I still need to have the power of attorney notarized for the registration process, right?

Also, regarding the IRS—do they require just one single copy of the power of attorney, or am I going to need all three copies?
And, I guess, would we actually need to show up in person to handle this, or is it possible for someone else to go on our behalf?

You’ll need all three copies, and no, you don't have to go yourself—anyone can drop them off.

Would this apply to any office at all?

The IRS just went and shuffled all their VAT reporting codes again because they're obsessed with running extra audits. 🤔It’s just more red tape for the sake of red tape.
You better get a developer on the phone to patch your software immediately, because if you don't, that filing isn't going anywhere.

Just heard back from the folks over at ExxonMobil. Turns out I had the city code entered as a three-digit number when it actually needs to be four. Basically, I just needed to slap a zero in front of it.
The IRS hasn't flagged it until now, so it’s been sliding through without any issues.

What is the deal with that notice on the IRS website regarding fiscalization? It looks like the application certificate expires tomorrow.

A potential issue regarding sales tax filings.

The situation:
Month 8: total refund due $200
Month 9: total refund due $133
Month 10: total sales tax $2333, from which I deducted the $1,000 refund owed from months 8 and 9 and paid the difference.

These numbers are just placeholders; the filings for months 8 and 9 were processed without any issues. However, regarding this most recent filing for month 10, the agent at the IRS wants me to list only the month 9 refund on line V. According to her, I'm apparently not allowed to combine the month 8 refund with it. I'm honestly pretty confused by this. I'm heading back to her office tomorrow to get some more specific clarification, but if anyone has any insight or perhaps a link to an explanation, I’d appreciate it, because this doesn't seem to make much sense to me..

To clarify, she did mention that the amount I actually paid was correct (month 10 liability minus the refunds from months 8 and 9), but she insisted that I shouldn't have included the month 8 refund on the actual form.

Yeah, that's how it works—you only list the most recent month's overpayment in that field.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Just one more thing—for my September statement, should I have included the refund from August? Just asking so I know how to handle it next time.. 🙂

Exactly—you definitely should've added that August overpayment to your September calculation.👍

Hi everyone, I have a quick question regarding how to file an amended VAT return.

Back in October, we had to adjust one of our invoices because of a contract amendment, which meant increasing the total by about $6.75. Since this was for construction services, it involved a reverse charge tax liability. I’m trying to figure out the exact process for submitting a corrected VAT form through the IRS portal. I’m already familiar with how to handle corrections for the Social Security Administration, but I’m a bit lost when it comes to VAT, so I would really appreciate some help if anyone here has dealt with a similar situation before.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can share!

You just submit the amended return exactly the same way you did the first time. Just make sure to give your agent a heads-up that you've sent over a correction so they can pull it up and swap it out, especially if they've already processed the initial incorrect version.

Alright, thanks for the help. I'll go ahead and create a new form, get it submitted, and then let the agent know.

Hi there. Does anyone here happen to be somewhat familiar with the technical specs required to run the IRS portal?
I’m thinking about picking up a mini laptop so I can stay mobile when I need to head out, but the IRS has posted these requirements:
The minimum recommended configuration for a desktop or laptop to use the IRS application is:

• CPU Intel Pentium IV 2 GHz or a processor with similar characteristics

• 1024 MB of RAM

• Graphics resolution of 1024x768 (in color)

• Operating system Microsoft Windows XP sp3 (x86) or newer

And what I’ve actually found online is:
- 1.8 GHz dual core processor
- 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
- 10.1" monitor, which means a 1024x600 resolution
- Windows 7

I suppose you could say I'm wondering if everything would actually work on this machine??

Thanks

Those "minimum specs" were from back when the app was actually software—now it’s just a web app. Computer horsepower doesn't really matter anymore; it'll work or it won't. As long as you have Java running, that's basically it. With this:

- 1.8 GHz dual core processor
- 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
- 10.1" monitor, specifically 1024x600 resolution
- Windows 7

It'll work just fine.
