Carol Ward3 said:Hi there. Does anyone here happen to be somewhat familiar with the technical specs required to run the IRS portal?
I’m thinking about picking up a mini laptop so I can stay mobile when I need to head out, but the IRS has posted these requirements:
The minimum recommended configuration for a desktop or laptop to use the IRS application is:

• CPU Intel Pentium IV 2 GHz or a processor with similar characteristics

• 1024 MB of RAM

• Graphics resolution of 1024x768 (in color)

• Operating system Microsoft Windows XP sp3 (x86) or newer

And what I’ve actually found online is:
- 1.8 GHz dual core processor
- 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
- 10.1" monitor, which means a 1024x600 resolution
- Windows 7

I suppose you could say I'm wondering if everything would actually work on this machine??

Thanks

That "minimum configuration" stuff was from back when the app was actually an application—nowadays it's just a web app, so the raw power of your computer doesn't even matter for whether it works or not. As long as you have Java running, that's basically it. With this setup:

- 1.8 GHz dual core processor
- 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
- 10.1" monitor, specifically a 1024x600 resolution
- Windows 7

It'll run just fine.

Give me a break. Thanks anyway.

Error retrieving Tax Accounting Card. Please try again later.

I have been staring at this error message while trying to access the tax accounting cards all day long. It is quite baffling, as everything was functioning perfectly fine yesterday. Now, the system refuses to grant me access to the records for any single client.🤔

Is there any way to resolve this technical failure? It seems that immediately after I submitted the Democratic Party form, the system blocked my ability to view the tax accounting cards entirely.🤦

I can't get into the FARC files either—looks like a glitch on their end... everything else seems fine, though. 😉

That tax portal is an absolute disaster, 🤦

It is always some sort of headache with that site. If it isn't a Java issue, then it's the FARC system itself, but this marks the very first time in over a year that I've been met with an error while trying to access the FARC records...

Even today, the situation remains unchanged; once again, the FARC is unresponsive, and frankly, I have no idea when they will actually get it back online. 🤔

Data entry errors in the form:

To whom it may concern, please be advised that submitting JOPPD forms is temporarily unavailable.

The JOPPD submission system is completely down right now!!! I was fully aware that things would be offline starting at 4:00 PM due to the scheduled system upgrade, but this error message has been popping up consistently since 2:00 PM.

It isn't working properly at all, 🍿

For certain clients, the system displays the balance on the FARC, yet for others, the field directly beneath their basic information remains entirely blank—there is no current FARC balance to be found.

Cheers to the IRS digital portal, I suppose. 🙏

But doesn't this happen every single time during the year-end transition? Haven't they finished migrating data and opening up the 2015 files for everyone yet? For those specific accounts, shouldn't the closing balances from December 31, 2014, already be available?

Thanks, 🍿

You make an excellent point; whenever I pull up the records for December 31, 2014, everything displays perfectly clearly. 😒

Is anyone actually able to file their JOPPD forms at this moment? 🤔

Has the technical team finally managed to get everything back under control?

My paycheck hit back on January 2nd—but I’m looking at my FARC account and all I see are the health insurance transfers sent to the new bank... anyone else seeing their deposits show up yet, or is it just me?

I'm in the same boat—nothing's showing up on my end either, just the debit. Some lady at the IRS told me I basically just have to sit tight and keep checking🕺

Hi there!
I have a quick question... I'm taking over the bookkeeping starting this year, specifically regarding the IRS e-filing credentials. Since the previous accountant used electronic services for this client, they clearly already have an established tax ID and profile set up with the IRS. Does that mean I just need to request the login credentials and digital signature tools from them, or am I required to submit a completely new application to the IRS regardless of their history?
Thanks so much in advance for any help!

If the previous bookkeeper was managing the firm's electronic filings through their own professional certificate—meaning the company didn't actually possess its own dedicated credentials—then you’ll need to apply for your own credentials through the IRS. You will also need to obtain a power of attorney from the client so you can access their digital services and have them authorized under your specific certificate.
On the other hand, if the company maintained its own separate certificate and the previous accountant simply used that specific tool to file, then the old accountant is obligated to return the physical card and reader to the client. In that scenario, the client should hand those materials over to you, and you can simply carry on using the company's existing certificate.
