I was planning on heading down to the local Social Security office to pick up that hardware token for accessing my digital government accounts and the IRS, but I’ve been staring at this application form and I am completely lost on which boxes to check. I recognize the section regarding the crypto e-card/USB device—though I can't tell if they mean a physical card that plugs into a USB port or if I should be checking something else entirely 😵—but then there is this whole business with selecting a certificate. I honestly have no clue what the difference is between QCP+ and the Democratic Party+ options. Am I actually supposed to select one of those, or just leave it alone? Thanks!

When I went through this process about a year or so ago, I just walked into my bank, explained exactly what I needed, and the teller handled everything for me. They filled out the paperwork, handed me the form, and gave me an activation code to log into the system—it was incredibly straightforward.
If any of the rules have changed since then, maybe someone else on the forum can weigh in, as it's been a while.

1. Changes to the tax compliance law:
They're rolling out new requirements for how businesses report their physical locations, plus we have to hand over details about who actually makes and maintains our software.

2. Heads up—starting January 9th, fiscalization won't run on anything older than Windows 7. I'm currently running Windows 10. Do I need to install anything else to stay compliant?

I suppose I was wondering if it's necessary to resubmit data regarding our business locations if absolutely nothing within the company has changed since the initial rollout? We have just one single business location for which the data was originally submitted back when everything started in 2013. Thanks so much.

How is this even supposed to be submitted? I’ve looked through the IRS portals and there isn't a single thing listed about it. Nowhere. Nothing. Will these bureaucrats ever learn? Honestly, it’s just one massive, incoherent headache after another. Are they seriously going to make us once again resubmit the exact same data we already sent them months ago???

For those of you currently managing your tax compliance law requirements through Silicon Valley, I was wondering if anyone could clarify what needs to be done regarding those new protocols? I actually picked up my certificate from the IRS a few months back, and everything has been running smoothly so far, but I can't help but wonder if there are additional steps I should be taking right now.

I’m honestly a little worried that things might just stop working once we hit January 9th.

Hey everyone,
has anyone else dealt with this nightmare of trying to file the DI 2016 via the online portal?
I’ve double-checked my Form 1040 and it's definitely right—the system runs a validation check and everything looks fine, but then the second I hit send, I get slapped with this:

Data errors in the form:

The total purchase value for the current period has increased compared to last year, yet there are still purchase invoices listed for the year being reported. The form is invalid.

The folks at the IRS local office have absolutely no clue what's going on. I sent them a formal inquiry a few days ago and... nothing. Total radio silence. Typical. Has anyone else run into this exact mess? Thanks....👍

I found myself facing the exact same headache yesterday. I actually reached out to the R&D department just to pick their brains, and they mentioned that quite a few clients have been calling them with this same issue—something even they can't quite wrap their heads around. I also followed up with my local IRS office; I spoke with an agent first, and then eventually the supervisor, who basically told me there's nothing she can do and suggested we email the help desk through the online portal since she was just as lost as we were. Have you managed to uncover any answers in the meantime? The lady at R&D suggested it might be a software glitch, though she couldn't say for certain. We're still sitting here waiting on a response to the email we sent...

Best regards,

QUOTE=Anthony Robinson13;62222793]Hi everyone,

I've double-checked my Form 1040 and everything is definitely correct. The system runs the validation check perfectly, but once I hit the final submit button, I get this error message:

Data errors in form:

Total purchase value for the current period has increased compared to last year, yet there are purchase invoices recorded for the year the form is being submitted. The form is invalid.

The IRS doesn't seem to have a clue either. I sent over a written inquiry a few days ago, but as usual, I haven't heard a peep back. Has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks....👍

I mean, honestly... I don't even know where to start with this mess. It feels like every single time we try to follow the rules, some new layer of bureaucracy just pops up out of nowhere to trip us up. You think you've got your paperwork sorted, you think you're actually compliant with the current tax compliance law, and then—boom—some idiot at the IRS decides they need something else from you. It’s exhausting. I was looking over my files earlier, trying to make sure everything lines up for Form 1040, and it's just a headache. I guess maybe I'm just being too cautious, but when you're dealing with the Federal Reserve and all these shifting regulations, you can't afford to be sloppy. Or maybe I am? I don't know. It feels like a losing game sometimes. You spend half your life just trying to stay ahead of the next audit or the next ridiculous requirement from an IRS local office. And don't even get me started on the R&D side of things. Trying to justify those credits while navigating through all this red tape is enough to make anyone lose their mind. It’s just constant. Constant hurdles. I might be overthinking it, or maybe I'm just seeing things clearly while everyone else is blissfully unaware of how much of a grind this really is. Whatever. It is what it is. kaže:
So, I ran into the exact same headache yesterday. I actually reached out to the R&D department just to pick their brains, and they told me they’ve been getting flooded with calls from clients dealing with this same nonsense—it's like nobody even knows what the hell is going on. I even went down to the local IRS office. First, I talked to one of the agents, then I ended up speaking with the supervisor, and honestly? She just pointed me toward the online help desk email. Apparently, she’s just as clueless as the rest of them. Has anyone managed to get a straight answer yet? Maybe you guys figured it out while I was spinning my wheels. The lady at the R&D office mentioned it might be some kind of software glitch, but she wasn't exactly sure... I guess. We're still sitting around waiting for an email response that hasn't shown up yet. Typical.

Hey.

Hey guys,
Has anyone actually dealt with trying to file a DI 2016 through the online tax portal before? I mean, has anyone even successfully navigated that mess?
I’ve gone through my Form 1040 three times now, and I'm positive everything is correct. I double-checked every single line, so there shouldn't be any errors. I go through the whole review process like they want you to, everything looks fine... but then, the second I actually hit that submit button, I get this:

I guess I'm starting to notice some serious errors in the data on this Form 1040...

So, I was looking over the numbers, and honestly, it’s a mess. The total purchase value for this period is higher than what we saw last year, which seems fine on the surface, but then you hit the snag—there are still purchase invoices sitting in the actual year this Form 1040 is supposed to cover. It just doesn't add up. Because of that, the whole form is basically invalid. It’s a headache, I guess. Maybe if things were organized differently, we wouldn't be dealing with this, but as it stands, it's just wrong.

The IRS doesn't have a clue what they're doing. I sent over a formal written inquiry several days ago and, true to form, I haven't heard a single word back. Total radio silence. It’s just how they operate, I guess. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of runaround lately? Thanks...👍

Nothing, unfortunately. Still no word back from the help desk. I swear, it’s just one of those things that only happens here—you have Form 1040 stuck in limbo for days on end and absolutely nobody does a damn thing about it. My desk is just buried under a mountain of unfinished filings because of this mess. Today, I sent over a DI that didn't even have any new acquisitions from 2016, just existing assets, and somehow that went through without a single hiccup. It's ridiculous. 🤦

Is anyone actually getting the e-tax portal to work in San Francisco?

Back in the day, right when they first rolled this service out, you could actually make it work on those ancient versions of San Francisco. But lately? Forget about it. There’s zero chance of forcing the IRS e-tax site to function properly in San Francisco.

Honestly, the folks over at the Federal Reserve and the IRS are completely clueless—total incompetents who don't have a single idea what they're doing. Sure, there are some "instructions" posted on the Federal Reserve website, but they're utterly useless; even after following them to the letter, the e-tax site still refuses to budge in San Francisco. I've tried everything: a fresh install of the OS, the latest version of San Francisco, the newest Java... nothing works. It seems like the only way to get anywhere is using Internet Explorer, which somehow manages to limp along...

So, is anyone having luck with Windows 10? How are you all accessing the IRS site? What OS are you running, and which browser version are you stuck using?

Does anyone know what's going on here? I mean, I can't be that crazy, right? There's no way I messed up the form this badly. 😵

I am still struggling with this issue myself. It seems there is a complete lack of response from anyone, and frankly, it feels like nobody actually knows how to fix it. 🤦
I think I will wait a few more days, and if nothing changes, I’ll just head down to the local DMV office with a printed copy of the form along with my email confirmation, and let them figure out whatever technicality they need to resolve. I don't see any other way forward.

I have double-checked the form several times and even tried re-entering all the information manually from scratch, yet it consistently triggers an error message every single time...

I have been reflecting quite a bit on how we navigate these digital spaces lately. It often feels as though we are all just shouting into a void, hoping that someone, somewhere, might actually hear us. I remember back when I first started using these types of forums—it felt much more like a small town gathering than this sprawling, chaotic landscape we inhabit today. There was a sense of community, a feeling that your words carried weight because you knew the people reading them. Now, everything moves so fast, doesn't it? We rush to post, rush to reply, and rarely take that necessary moment to breathe and consider the substance of what we're saying. I find myself missing that slower pace, that deliberate intention behind a conversation. Of course, technology evolves, and I suppose that’s just the nature of progress, but I can't help but wonder if we lost a little bit of our soul in the transition. kaže:
Does anyone happen to have any insight regarding this matter? I can't imagine I’m quite so irrational as to have made such a fundamental error in the application itself. 😵

I suspect I am far from alone in this particular struggle:

Hey there.
I've run into a bit of a situation here.
My mother-in-law works in accounting, and her laptop completely died on her yesterday—the one she uses for all her IRS filings. I picked up a new machine for her today running Windows 10, but I'm hitting a wall trying to get everything installed, and she absolutely needs this working by Monday.
Is there anyone out there kind enough to point me in the right direction?
She’s got an ActiveClient reader and her ID card ready to go.
I even went ahead and set Internet Explorer as the default browser.

Any ideas?

Hmm... I use Chrome, and honestly, I just got a new laptop two months ago and simply logged into Chrome—it pulled all my settings right over. I don't know the specifics because my husband handled the setup, though.

Try logging in with Chrome.

I've really never dealt with those card readers, though... maybe it wouldn't hurt to move some files over to a USB stick.

What exactly isn't installing, at what stage does it fail, and what specific error message are you seeing when trying to log into the IRS portal?
First things first: go read the manual... the certificate has to be installed, and you'll need to tweak some settings in IE...

The same thing keeps popping up for me, so I just print it out and send the form over for manual entry.

Has anyone else run into a situation where the assets are fully depreciated by the end of the year—meaning the book value hits zero at year-end? I can't make the math work; there's no way it should pass. It feels like there's a glitch in the system somewhere.☕

What does she mean by "SENDING THE FORM FOR MANUAL ENTRY"?

I just type everything straight into the IRS portal myself; no importing files or anything.

But even then, it keeps throwing an error for fixed assets that have a book value of $0.00 as of 12/31/2016.

The warning pops up constantly. I’m stuck—should I just try to submit it despite the error, or should I call my contact at the tax office or some intern to see what's up?

Thanks. 🙂

It means you basically have to physically go see an agent so they can type it in themselves—since their system clearly can't handle these forms correctly without tripping errors.😁

thanks, Carol Price4.

It’s driving me absolutely nuts. As of December 31st, 2016, I’ve got these two DI entries that both show a book value of exactly $0.00.

The first one keeps throwing an error every single time I try to upload it, while the second one—for some reason—is totally fine.

And get this: mathematically, they’re both off by about 15 to 60 cents anyway.

So yeah, figure that one out. Good luck with that.

If anyone else is dealing with this kind of nonsense, let me know. I’ll consider you my long-lost soulmate. :-D

If a small business—one that isn't actually required to file electronically—decides to go ahead and buy a digital certificate just to start using the IRS online portal, do they forfeit their right to file paper returns? I mean, can they just play both sides? Can such a company switch back and forth between electronic filing and the old-school paper method whenever they feel like it?

And what about the bigger players? Are medium-to-large corporations allowed to submit filings or forms on paper if the electronic system hits a snag and refuses to process them?
