My business has been up and running for a few months now, and everything seems to be sailing smoothly—I've been filing my sales tax returns and all the usual paperwork without any hiccups whatsoever.
However, I’m hitting a wall when I try to access my ETA account details. No matter which date I plug into the system, the fields just come back completely blank.
It isn't even showing a zero balance or anything helpful; it’s just an absolute void where the data should be.

I’ve already hopped into the search tool and found the specific certificates that need extending, but I’m getting a bit tripped up on the technicalities. I can't quite figure out whether I need to save both the DER and PEM files, or if just one of them will do the trick? 🤦 What should my next move be...😵

We have several small businesses operating under simplified tax structures, and all their certifications are issued directly to the business entity rather than the individuals themselves. None of them hold certificates in their own names. Since there are quite a few sole proprietors in this group, I’d love for someone to jump in and confirm if my understanding is correct—I want to make sure I'm not leading anyone down the wrong path here.

The business registry used to be wide open to everyone, but it looks like they've moved everything behind a login wall. Does anyone know if a local government agency can register for free, or is there still some kind of public search tool tucked away somewhere that I'm just missing?

You can probably check through the Secretary of State's database official site instead.

Thanks! I use it once in a while, but I honestly feel like the Secretary of State database used to be more thorough. For instance, I can't seem to find the basic tax ID numbers for certain companies... maybe I'm just overlooking them since I don't check the official registry all that often.

Has anyone actually managed to get the IRS website to function properly using either Firefox or Edge?

On Firefox, I can't even get past the login screen—it just keeps throwing an error saying no certificate was selected. Then, when I switch over to Edge, I can successfully log in, but for the life of me, I can't get any of the forms to digitally sign. It’s maddening.

Can someone please point me toward a direct link to download the necessary "software support" for Firefox? Their own official instructions are completely useless; there isn't a single download link to be found in their documentation.

I need some help figuring out how to get into the IRS portal. I picked up a standard hardware token from my bank instead of one of those smartcards or security keys, mostly because I spend almost all my time working on a Mac. Honestly, setting up a virtual machine just to handle banking stuff—trying to pass through USB ports and dealing with all that headache—is just too much work. Plus, those mobile authenticator apps are such a pain since they seem to reset every time I switch devices.

So, what’s the move to actually get my digital certificate? Do I need to head down to the Federal Reserve? What am I even looking for there? Just the certificates, or do I need to buy their specific hardware too? And what kind of damage is this going to do to my wallet? Also, is there any way my accountant could just authorize me so I don't have to deal with this whole mess myself? 😁

Has anyone here dealt with an expired digital certificate for the IRS portal before?
We didn't get any heads-up that the certificate was about to expire. We use the one provided on a security token from our business bank, and I tried logging into the IRS system today only to realize the certificate actually lapsed two days ago.

My bank told me to just reach out to them to sort it out, but I'm stuck wondering about the next step: once they issue the renewal, will I have to go through the whole registration process again for the IRS system, or does everything just sync up automatically once the new certificate is live?
