I’m dealing with almost the exact same thing as mistyseal11. It’s easy for everyone else to chime in with advice on what you should or shouldn't do, or how to handle it, when they have no clue what it actually feels like. They don't get what it's like to spend all day alone, stuck in front of a computer or the TV, just spiraling into how miserable everything is—to use mistyseal11's term, a "social cripple." You honestly feel like there's no way out. The worst part is that after a while, those thoughts of suicide actually start creeping in because the loneliness begins to eat away at your body, your soul, and your mind. It’s not like I’m totally isolated; I have a few friends, if you can even call them that, but they live too far away. I’ve thought about looking for professional help, but I honestly doubt there's any fix for stuff like this.

Good grief... where on earth do you even find people like that?

Exactly... you don't even realize where they're hiding. You probably run into people like that all the time without a clue. Just a cashier at the grocery store, maybe a coworker, or just someone you cross paths with briefly..

I honestly don't get why people let themselves spiral like this. To me, it just looks like a total lack of character—it’s honestly pathetic. Look, I’ve been through my own share of absolute garbage. There were moments when I seriously thought about ending it all, too. But instead, I chose to laugh at the absurdity of it, pull myself together, and force myself to go out and be around people. There is always someone out there who doesn't know your history, someone you can reinvent yourself for. You can decide who you want to be, and eventually, you realize that at least one person actually gives a damn.

Well... the keyword there is "I," Lawrence. If we were all cut from the same cloth, these discussion threads wouldn't even exist in the first place.
I could sit here and say the exact same thing—that I am this way, or that I did this and that regarding this specific issue—but it’s useless. I can't expect other people to solve their problems using my methods or mine, for the simple reason that they aren't you, and they aren't me. Personally, I find it absurd and completely unnecessary to insult people by calling them spineless. Maybe it doesn't sound like an insult to you or them, but to me, it does. I believe that character, paired with intelligence, are the only things that separate us from horses, sheep, lions, and the rest of the animal kingdom...
But, getting back to the point, I think it's inherently positive that mistyseal11 is admitting to having a problem and seeking help. I just don't know how many people lurking on this forum are actually competent enough to offer any real advice on how to fix one's life or resolve deep-seated issues.

I get that I’m the one responsible here (mostly because there are just so many people like that out there), but honestly, the last thing I need is someone telling me how pathetic I am. It's not like I don't realize it myself—believe me, I'm fully aware. I haven't found a way to fix things yet, though maybe there's a solution out there somewhere once I figure it out.

Don't sweat it, you'll get there... It took me two full years to even start making headway. Even now, I haven't cracked the code on a permanent fix, but at least I've finally stopped standing still. I think that's the common thread for all of us: we have to actually move. We have to take that first step. How you do that, though? Well, that’s the variable. It depends entirely on the individual circumstances. 🙂

I mean, I’ve always been this way—just someone who doesn't really gravitate toward crowds. I think I just haven't quite figured out the whole "people person" thing. Lately, though, I’ve actually started hanging out with a few people more regularly, maybe two or three friends total. Even if it's just grabbing a coffee with one person once a week, I'm actually pretty happy with that. Is that pathetic?

I honestly can't say... personally, I don't even have that much social interaction right now, and I’m the type of person who needs way, way more than just one coffee date a week to feel balanced. Then again, I suppose that need varies wildly from person to person.
Is it pathetic? Look, what's actually pathetic is you asking if you're pathetic. Give me a break. You're clearly struggling with some serious self-esteem issues here, but why on earth would you be "pathetic"?

I honestly don't get you people... no matter how much I read these threads—not that I've read every single one—I just can't wrap my head around how you claim it's impossible to find anyone... it's just nonsense—and frankly, even idiots manage to have a social circle and some sort of environment...

Here’s my take on it:
Scenario 1: You let some people screw you over or play you for a fool, and now you've retreated into your shell, trusting absolutely no one... you keep reaching out to the same people who couldn't care less about you, and now you're just stuck being insecure...

Scenario 2: You have a genuine phobia of meeting people—you're terrified of starting a conversation because you might embarrass yourself (I've been there myself; I used to sit in silence in any group setting, terrified of saying something stupid—which still happens to me occasionally)—and you simply don't know how to approach anyone...

Scenario 3: You actually tried to be social, but got played like a complete amateur a few times—because you saw through something they were doing, which they found hilarious—and now you've developed a phobia...

Scenario 4: There's something you aren't mentioning—because if you're supposedly this perfect, helping everyone and being a total sweetheart... yet nobody gives a damn about you, then there's clearly a missing piece to the story...

So, here are some suggestions:

Suggestion No. 1: Go to your local pub every day for a week, ideally during the same shift. You don't need to spend a fortune; just grab a coffee... start a conversation with the bartender, or maybe a regular who shows up every day for their caffeine fix...

Suggestion No. 2: See a psychiatrist...

Suggestion No. 3: Hit up a nightclub, get absolutely hammered, and pick up a girl... join a crowd... you have plenty of options when you're drunk (believe me, I know 🙂), and if you're worried about getting emotional when you drink... don't be. Every time I get drunk, I cry like a baby—even though I have a girlfriend, a social life, and live with my mother... so what? It is what it is...

Suggestion No. 4: If you're from Indianapolis, hit me up; by summer, you'll have more friends than you ever imagined (sorry, that sounds a bit arrogant, but bear with me)...

And one final piece of advice... don't try to kill yourself... I've tried it... it's not all it's cracked up to be...

So, here’s my two cents on this whole mess, if you really want to know what I'm thinking about everything going down.

Quentin Tarantino

Who do I love? Honestly, nobody else.
I honestly don't give a damn about anyone.

Quentin Tarantino

I honestly can't stand those damn hitchhikers—they're just looking for a free ride and a way to mess with people who are actually trying to get somewhere. It’s such a headache.

Quentin Tarantino

I don't have any connections, man. Like, why is that so hard for you guys to wrap your heads around?

Quentin Tarantino

I asked him, but man, I almost took a heavy bag straight to the face!

Quentin Tarantino

Man, my neighbors are straight-up ghosting me.

just a few ghosts from my past

I’ve been grinding away behind a screen lately, but I haven't heard a peep back from anyone.

I haven't really had the chance, honestly, since everything is just digital anyway.

Like, I literally gifted him 10k gold in-game. Like, seriously, what more do you want?!

Could be true.

I don't buy it. They had plenty of chances back when I was active on social media.
Every time I tried to reach out, they just treated me like garbage.

Truthfully? No, I don't.

hey everyone. just messing around. ass, gas & grass

Fine.

So why on earth would anyone bother caring about you?

Why should anyone give a damn?

I’m being serious here.

Look, I get it, fine—it’s my fault, I’m the problem here.

But it really sucks when you realize that despite everything, none of the people I used to hang out with actually find me interesting enough to keep around.

And the worst part? I always made such an effort to be there for everyone, you know? I was always the guy with time to spare whenever anyone needed a hand... but now that I don't have anything specific to offer, nobody seems to need me or even bother calling anymore.

It's weird.

Maybe the real issue is that you don't actually find any of those people interesting either?

Personally, I have zero interest in hanging out with anyone who doesn't care about me. I call people leeches—those who only want to be around me because they need an audience, without actually thinking I'm special or even worth their time. I just run the other way, or make it crystal clear that they should stay away from me.😠

So, I skimmed through the thread... Looks like this guy is feeling pretty lonely, but honestly, he’s got a solid sense of humor. I was actually just like him once. My one stroke of luck? Someone basically had to drag me out of the house, totally out of the blue. We weren't even close before that... I don't know if someone might do the same for him.

I mean, if he’s really craving some company, people find each other all the time—not talking about those weird online meetups, obviously. Just get something together and invite him along. Maybe then he can actually meet someone without needing a tear gas canister involved...

so basically
your whole logic is that if I don't go out of my way to look after someone => then nobody should bother looking after me?

..okay, let's say we haven't exactly nailed down a specific definition for what "caring" actually means here...

but man, that implies that when someone is in a bind => yeah, I'll help them as much as I know how and as much as I possibly can.

as for whether I'd want someone to care for me or look out for me... well, I'll have to sit with that thought for a minute.

honestly, I think every single person is interesting in their own unique way.
and I can hold a conversation with pretty much anyone, and I really try to make sure things stay engaging. 🙂

weed: I'm going with that—you get out exactly what you put in. 😉

It’s not exactly a precise science, though. I guess nobody just wakes up miserable for no reason. You become unhappy by loving someone way too much—someone who treats you like garbage. 😢

The trick, if there is one, is finding that bit of love left inside you and giving it to people who actually deserve it.

But if you're just sitting at home, locked away, waiting for someone to call or care about you? Yeah, that’s not happening. 😢

Back when things were really rough and I felt totally alone, I used to look around and ask myself: is there anyone having a harder time than me? There’s always someone out there who lights up just because you pay attention, give them a compliment, or ask them to grab a coffee. It’s a good starting point. Basically: don't wait around. Just go for it.

I find a weird kind of peace in realizing the universe is basically just one big closed loop where every single action triggers an equal reaction...

there’s no such thing as a free lunch either... because everything eventually comes due.
if you take something from somewhere else... yeah, life finds a way to settle the score on the flip side.
obviously—it won't happen overnight. but it happens.

I’ve actually started paying way more attention to my own ratio of positive versus negative vibes lately.
but I’m not really gonna dive into the specifics of that right now...

image

The real question is, what happens when there’s zero action—neither good nor bad?
that's when everything just hits a standstill...

...just waiting for some kind of spark to get the wheels turning again.
