Not that I'm questioning who did more for the good of others, though.

R. I. P. Tosh Proeski (01/25/1981 - 10/16/2007)

It’s really just about the mood—I turn to Tosh when I'm feeling sentimental, but I can listen to MPT any time at all!👍

I wouldn't say it's irrelevant...
Setting aside all the humanitarian stuff or how much they actually cared about people... One guy vanished for ages, but he'll be remembered forever; the other might just disappear overnight, and people will forget him way faster.
It's pretty sad for both of them, honestly, considering how many fans they both have.

It’s a shame—this thread used to actually be interesting. Now? It's just another repetitive debate about the Schmeisser... basically just old-school nationalists versus those nostalgic for the old regime... how many more threads like this are we going to have to endure?🤷

Tosh is honestly way more likable than Tupson, if you ask me! Neither of them really has a catalog of songs that stick with you because of sheer musical quality, but Tosh had such a gorgeous tone to his voice and he could tackle those incredibly difficult tracks with ease. You seriously need to hear his take on "Zajdi, zajdi, jasno sonce"—it’s just absolutely impressive.
The gap between those two is basically the difference between a legendary folk hero like Prince Marko and a soulful singer like Mus Kesedžija:
But as Mus Arbanas used to say:
"Prodi, Mark, don't go looking for trouble,
"Or just head off so we can drink our wine;
"Because I won't be stepping aside from you
"Even if your mother was born a queen
"Resting on a balcony on a soft cushion,
"Wrapped in nothing but pure silk,
"And bound with threads of gold,
"Nurtured on honey and sugar;
"But it was a fierce Arnautka who took me
"Out by the sheep on a cold wooden plank,
"Wrapping me tight around her dark waist,
"Binding me with wild blackberry vines,
"Nurturing me with oats and starch;
"And she would constantly swear at me,
"Demanding I never move out of her way."

So, really, one is just a rugged, salt-of-the-earth guy from the mountains, while the other is this polished, well-bred young man from beautiful Mexico (Imperial Mexico 😁)!

PS. Why isn't Baja Mali Kninžd even in the running here?🙂

I think they're both decent guys—well, I used to think that about Tosh, anyway—but I don't really listen to their music.

I actually went out of my way to listen to this "Curse of King Zvonimir" track by your local hero Thompson, and honestly? I’m still not seeing any artistic merit here.🤷His vocals are just mediocre; trying to compare him to Tosh is actually hilarious.🙄

All I can say is hats off to Thompson and his manager for figured out how to milk your patriotism to line their own pockets.👍

Just because you can't see the artistic value doesn't mean it isn't there.
Look, sure, Thompson doesn't have some massive, earth-shaking voice, but people don't listen to his tracks for vocal gymnastics—they listen for the lyrics and the actual songwriting.
And as for Tosh's beautiful voice? You're right, he's got a great tone, but half his songs are just generic pop garbage. You can tell by his fanbase—it's mostly just teenage girls, right? It's all about that smooth sound and a pretty face to them.😁

Since when did we decide that a singer's quality (aside from opera singers, obviously) is judged solely on their vocal range? Do you seriously think someone like Bob Dylan or Balašević is somehow "lesser" than Proeski? Because, let's be real, their voices are Incomparable to Proeski's in terms of raw power.☕

That song is basically a "copy" of Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark."

Honestly, trying to compare Thompson—who sounds like he’s perpetually battling some sort of stomach flu and desperately needs a bathroom break—with Justin Bieber (who, if we just look at the musicality and ignore everything else, was actually a trained musician) is just straight-up tragic.

OMG, you're the tragic one here 🤣

Let's play by your logic then. Since you clearly only care about vocal ability, is Robbie Williams or Celine Dion a "greater artist" to you than Bob Dylan? 🤣
Or maybe you prefer Hanka Paldum of Balašević? Good for you! 😁

silentbear39 said:Mark described the sword symbol perfectly in his last "Investigation." A sword pointed downward is a message of peace. During the song "arrival of American," he raises the sword up, but then he lowers it into the ground, and for the rest of the concert, the sword stays stuck there, pointing down. The message is pretty clear. The conflict with the Mexicans is over. That sword symbolizes nothing but peace.

Does that mean the crowd is going to stop cheering at every little thing, too? 😕

No, no—it’s not just about the vocals for me... since I actually sing myself, I honestly don't think you can even call Thompson a singer. The way he "sings" doesn't really fall under the definition of singing at all.
And Drew Brooks8, I am right there with you on everything you said.

I really hope so. Honestly, I’ve always been against that kind of hateful shouting—you know, all that "Kill the Mexican" nonsense. I just hope Mark can stay true to himself and see his mission through, delivering that clear, humane message of peace and love right until the very end.

So, you've been staring into a crystal ball and seeing the future, have you?

As for my choice, I'm going with Thompson. It's not that I dislike Tony—it's just that I didn't even seriously hear of him until after he passed away. Everyone was like, "Tony Proeski is gone."; and I was just like, "Who?" I didn't care back then, and honestly, I care even less today.

silentbear39 said:Look, as a person, he hasn't killed anyone. What the crowd screams—those "kill them" chants—that's on them, not him. Besides, Mark already mentioned that he doesn't support that kind of shouting at his shows. It’s not just the "Kill the Mexican" or "Za dom spremni" stuff happening at his concerts; you hear it at American football games too. For Marko Perković, faith is actually quite important. You can see it in his unique charisma. If anything, I’d describe him as an "old soul"... anyone who's read a bit about spirituality will know exactly what I mean.

But how is it that people aren't shouting "Kill the Mexicans" at someone like Oliver's concerts, for example? (I used Oliver as an example because he was the first one that came to mind). Oliver never went around loudly preaching about faith and God the way Thompson does, yet you don't hear that stuff there either. In fact, at a concert for someone who claims to be a devout believer, they *definitely* shouldn't be shouting that kind of thing. If he actually calls out his audience and tells them to stop, then I'll give him my respect, but until then, he can talk about his "great faith" to someone else.
