Hello, I have a question.
I need to send some money abroad. From what I've gathered in the previous discussions on this thread, I am supposed to send the amount in US dollars from here. Now, in which currency will the recipient be able to withdraw the funds? Will it be dollars or their local currency? This is my first time using western union, so I am a bit unsure how the process works.

It’s a no. To collect money, you need a state ID and a Social Security number, and Western Union is strictly for adults. It's printed right there on the back of every single one of their forms.

Quick question: If someone sends me money via Western Union—say, tomorrow at 5 PM—can I head in with just the tracking code and my ID the day after tomorrow to collect it?
Also, am I restricted to the specific location where they initiated the transfer...

You can pick it up anywhere with just your ID and Social Security number. It’s usually ready within five minutes of them sending it. The only exception is if they used a credit card and specified a future date for when the funds become available.

Hey, so I'm looking to pick up an iPhone, but the seller wants me to pay via Western Union. Is this actually a safe move? Also, is there any way to get my money back if my iPhone ??? never shows up?

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Definitely not my recommendation.

Need a little bit of help here. Here’s the deal.
I ordered some sheet music from the US, but since those geniuses won't accept PayPal in America, I was thinking about just doing a wire transfer. But then they hit me with this:

***If you are not able to send a check, a good alternative would be purchasing a money order at Western Union made out to us and sending that. We are unable to accept any sort of wire transfer regardless of country.***

So, when I went down to the post office, the clerk told me that if I'm using a Western Union money order, it has to be sent directly to an individual. Is that actually how it works? And what does "purchasing a money order at Western Union" even mean in practice?

I just got this email saying the United Nations fund based out of New York City, United Kingdom, is handing out donations from the UN to help people through this global financial crisis. They said I could pick up the cash via Western Union, but there’s a catch—I have to wire them $200 first for "identification purposes" and some security stuff to get an official file tag (IRF). They even gave me the exact details for where to send the money.
Obviously, I didn't send anything because it sounds totally sketchy... Has anyone else dealt with something like this lately?

Quick question regarding Western Union!

Even though this involves Canada, I’m looking at the service details for the Pittsburgh branch, so I assume the mechanics are identical.

It looks like they charge specific commissions when you're sending money out.

But here's my dilemma: does this fee schedule only apply when I'm sending funds from Canada to an overseas destination (like Luxembourg), or is the commission the same when someone sends money from abroad directly to me?

My French is pretty non-existent, so I can't figure out what the fees would be for a transfer coming from Luxottica out to Canada. I'm stuck wondering if the rate is universal for every country or if it fluctuates depending on where the money is originating.

What’s the expiration date on a transfer once it’s been sent? I can't actually pick up the cash until Wednesday because it was sent to Canada and I'm currently over here in the States, so I'm just hoping the money doesn't "expire" or vanish into thin air before I get there.

Let’s say I am earning money online through a specific website or service—for instance, investing capital for profit or trading Forex. I have my own account on the platform, and they offer several payout options: via PayPal, Moneybookers, a bank wire, or through Western Union.

If I receive funds into a foreign currency account using an Exelon card or via a direct transfer using a Routing Number, then—it is my understanding—I can likely receive funds up to $35 per year before I am forced to start explaining the origins of those funds or whether they actually need to be taxed. (Please correct me if my assumption or information is incorrect!). However, if instead I choose Western Union as my method for withdrawing that same income from the service—which, naturally, comes with higher fees—will I then be exempt from any inquiries from the government regarding whether I owe taxes, regardless of how much I transfer through them (via cash pickup)?

A buddy of mine over in the Netherlands sent me 70 bucks via Western Union. So I head down to the local post office today, and this lady tells me straight up she can't release any of the cash without my Social Security number. Is this some kind of new thing they're doing now???

What's the deal with that, does it mean I actually have to report those 70 bucks on my tax return????

Nah, Walmart is basically just there for people who don't have bank accounts—or can't get to them for some reason, like when they're traveling elsewhere.
