Honestly, I’m at a loss for what counts as a good deal anymore. Especially when it comes to finding decent musicians—that’s getting really tough. I suggested these guys because I know them personally, and they’re honestly great.

I guess most musicians don't really care for playing at weddings, mostly because the girls don't exactly throw cash at the band like the guys do. It’s just not as lucrative for them. 🙂

Anyone got recs for a live band for a wedding in Des Moines?
Never actually heard any of them live... I definitely want an accordion player mixed in with the other instruments, and they gotta be able to play more than just Great Plains hits since half the guest list is coming from Appalachia and California.

So far, I've heard people mention the Great Plains group and the New Band... if you've worked with them, let me know what the deal is 🙂

Also, how much does it even cost just for background music, not the full night?

Man, I’m actually in the same boat—looking for a solid makeup artist and a hairstylist. If you guys have any leads, please let me know. I’m looking around the Jacksonville or Pittsburgh areas, though I wouldn't mind someone near Zanesville either. I haven't heard of this Jane Marjanović before, but if she's got such a huge reputation, she's probably the real deal.

Has anyone here actually heard of the band Dropbox? I ended up booking them for a wedding—I went off a recommendation and some online buzz—but a few friends just got back from a wedding they attended where they were playing, and they said it was a total disaster. Apparently, there was a break every fifteen minutes??

Nothing personal, but I find it quite baffling how someone can book a band without actually listening to them first. We are talking about an all-night event involving significant amounts of money here.
As for the percussionists, they are fine; they usually play for two or three hours, so even if they aren't world-class, they still pull their weight.

I actually put down the deposit for the subscription box myself. They mentioned they’d take one main break around 3:00 PM, lasting about 15 minutes or so. Other than that, breaks happen whenever the protocol calls for them. Everything is already coordinated, though I'm curious how they managed the timing with those young musicians.
Just sit down, have a chat, and be clear about what you want or don't want—no sense in badmouthing the band!
