Well, it just kind of mellows you out and helps you drift off to sleep, honestly—it's pretty much acting in the same way as something like Normabest.

It doesn't really help me drift off, though I suppose it could be used for relaxation if one were so inclined. 😁
But when I actually sit down and give it some serious thought, I find that I sleep much more easily with it, and I generally have a decent night's rest—aside from those frustrating moments where I find myself waking up several times in the middle of the night.

I am actually considering switching back to Celexa, because Elicea isn't doing anything for me at all... though I can't quite wrap my head around why it didn't, say, prescribe that Unknown you guys mentioned for insomnia; I suppose I'll just have to ask her. Also, I'm curious—is it ever standard practice to take two hypnotics simultaneously? I know you can't mix an AD, but I'm not sure about hypnotics. Has anyone here actually taken two at once?

I've been off my meds for two weeks now, and while it isn't exactly a total disaster, I certainly wouldn't call it "great." I find myself waking up constantly, and I'm plagued by these incessant jerking and kicking motions in my sleep. On top of that, there's the early waking issue; I'll go down around 2:00 AM and then I'm wide awake by 7:00 AM... I have a check-up next week, so maybe we can come up with a better plan then.

Could someone please share their experiences with Klonopin? If you’ve tried other anxiolytics as well, I’d love a comparison—specifically regarding how fast they kick in, how effectively they knock out anxiety, if they act as a sedative, and so on.
Thanks

Rejoflajt would probably be your best bet for information on this, as she takes it herself. You should ask her.😉

One more time, though... anyone have experience with Citalopram? Ideally if you've been getting it through CVS or something similar.

Citalopram actually helped lift my mood quite a bit, though I had to take about 2-3 mg of Lexapro along with it and occasionally Ambien to sleep. So, it didn't really touch my anxiety, but I guess it might be more calming if combined with Unknown.

First off, good morning everyone!
In my opinion, Rivotril is the absolute queen of pills. A 2 mg dose doesn't knock me out nearly as hard as 0.5 mg of Xanax does, but it provides this incredibly smooth, steady relaxation that just makes my anxiety vanish. I honestly love this medication and take it pretty regularly. It doesn't feel as easy to get hooked on compared to other anxiolytics; there isn't that sudden "hit" or a crash when it wears off—I just suddenly feel calm. Plus, it lasts a significant amount of time. I've been taking it for about 3 or 4 months now, averaging every other day, and it can last anywhere from 8 to 12 hours depending on how anxious I am. On an empty stomach, it usually kicks in within 20 to 30 minutes; if I've just eaten, naturally, it takes a bit longer. Honestly, all I can say is hats off to this pill.🙂

I'm still just figuring out how Unknown affects me. It seems to be kicking in lately because I'm finally SLEEPING—and the dreams are wild (honestly, I live for the vivid dreams on this stuff). The depression has backed off a bit, too, but the anxiety is still hanging around, even if it isn't totally unbearable. I’m taking half a Xanax a day and doing alright.
I'll probably start adding Citalopram to the mix soon, so we'll see how that goes...
But if you're saying it doesn't help with anxiety... who knows. 😢
Heading to my doctor today, I'll just ask her...

Actually, it doesn't put you to sleep, it just takes the edge off the anxiety.
I remember being so drowsy while I was first adjusting to it—but once my body got used to it, that feeling went away. So yeah, that was definitely just a side effect.

Just wanted to jump in here and share my own experience with meds, and while I'm at it, maybe pick your brains on a few things. Right now, I’m taking one 0.25 mg xanax pill three times a day, plus half a 10 mg Lexapro tablet, and after seven days, I have to move up to a full pill. I can definitely say things are looking up, but honestly, I still don't feel quite 100%. People keep telling me the therapy doesn't even really kick in for two weeks?!?!?! Is there a real risk of getting hooked on these, and what am I actually looking at once they decide to taper me off?

Klonopin is actually an anticonvulsant, not an anxiolytic. 😉
So, it actually helps your anxiety? Hmm... I guess I'll ask my doctor about that today. I'm really trying to get off the xanax. 🙂

Xanax definitely causes dependency, though usually after a decent amount of time passes...
Antidepressants supposedly don't. But in my case, it felt different... I mean, my symptoms actually got worse once I stopped taking the ADs. That doesn't necessarily mean it's an addiction—we all know ADs don't actually *cure* anything, they just dull the edge of the symptoms. 😢

Look, I know it's classified as an antiepileptic—they even prescribe it to toddlers with seizures. But honestly, Clonazepam is frequently swapped in for Xanax because it isn't quite as aggressive and doesn't feel like it builds up a dependency quite as fast. My primary care physician switched me over from Xanax without any hesitation; she actually seemed pretty pleased with the choice... haha. (I actually ended up trying it after a friend gave me some when I was having a rough patch and had run out of my usual stuff). What I noticed is that I don't deal with that frantic, irritable edge once it wears off the way I do with Xanax. That's why I asked for it, and that's why I got it.

My doctor put me on those pills to help calm my nerves and help me deal with waiting things out. On top of that, they're planning to have me go through some outpatient programs for group therapy and try out some newer methods to help with focus. We'll see how it goes, I guess! 😁

I’ve been on Klonopin for a few years now—was actually a total Xanax addict back in the day—but I finally managed to kick it thanks to propranolol.
Klonopin acts as an anticonvulsant, but it's also frequently used in psychiatry to help stabilize mood—though its chemical makeup actually includes components that provide an anxiolytic effect too.
I’m actually pretty happy with it—though, if I'm being totally honest, xanax is still my absolute favorite when it comes to anxiolytics (talking about anxiolytics specifically, not mood stabilizers, of course)—but I definitely wouldn't want to go calling for that little devil again. Not a chance!😲🙄

Fadedbear, how long were you taking Xanax, and roughly what was your daily dosage? I just realized you mentioned it was 15 years... I'm having such a brain fog moment today...

My doctor isn't going to switch up my meds just yet. They want me to start combining Lexapro with Wellbutrin first before making any big moves. 🙂

But man, these mood swings are hitting me hard. I tried taking Lamictal for them, but it didn't really do anything for me...
