Quick question: am I allowed to take Advil while I'm on my current meds? For context, I'm using Tegretol as a mood stabilizer, and I've also been prescribed Norval—thank God my doctor finally cut me off the Klonopin, because that stuff left me feeling like a total zombie, numb in my limbs, and constantly dizzy.

Here’s the deal: I finally made a change and switched psychotherapists. After a massive, exhausting search, I found this wonderful, warm Gestalt therapist I see regularly for private sessions. My doctor seemed totally fine with the switch at first, and we agreed he’d stay in charge of managing my medication. But then, when I called him to schedule an appointment, he basically told me to come back in the spring—he seems totally offended by the whole thing and is straight-up ghosting me. When I tried to ask about taking Advil over the phone, he basically gave me a "goodbye" and slammed the phone down in my face.

So now I'm stuck. I'm not sure what's safe, especially since he previously banned me from even touching Tegretol during my worst bouts of alcoholism—back when he insisted drinking wasn't even my main issue, right before I ended up spending two weeks in detox at a rehab center in Brooklyn. So, I'm asking you guys.

I'm dealing with depression, but I can't touch Prozac either. Either my doctor forbids it, or because the last time I was on it, I spiraled into a mania with symptoms that, honestly, felt like they were teetering on the edge of psychosis (insomnia, obsessive and racing thoughts, this constant buzzing and pounding in my brain, and this unbearable, irrational euphoria that felt borderline paranoid and like I was floating).

Thanks 🙂

Notes:

1. My doctor actually hinted that we might finally look into tapering me off all my meds this spring. I’m freaking out—partly because I'm incredibly stoked about it, but also because the thought is honestly terrifying.

2. Gestalt therapy doesn't really deal with the pharmaceutical side of things.

3. Activin H is plant-based, which makes me feel way better about taking it, but I have this nagging fear that I'll be stuck on it forever. Back when I was in my early twenties, I decided to go rogue and stop taking it without asking anyone—my first big "diamond in the rough" mistake—and it sent me spiraling into a massive, soul-crushing depression.

4. After a bit of a communication breakdown and me basically staging a phone protest because he refused to stay on top of my pill schedule, we decided I should just head over to a local community clinic instead. He wouldn't even bother referring me to someone at Mayo Clinic.

Doesn't Activon have antidepressant effects? I'm not sure if it's actually a smart move to take it if you've experienced manic symptoms from other antidepressants in the past. What's the motivation behind wanting to try it?

Exactly! That’s why I’m itching for it. The stuff I’m currently choking down has this total downer effect: sure, it calms you down, but it also completely guts your willpower and kills any sense of drive or energy.

For five years, I was on Prozac first, then Zoloft, and I felt amazing—right up until the point where my constant weed habit started canceling out the kick those upward meds were supposed to give me. But even back then, I never dealt with mania or any of that nonsense.
But this year, I hit that nightmare side effect for the very first time—probably because I took too long of a break. And look, Activit is natural and milder; it doesn't have those nasty side effects, aside from maybe some redness or skin irritation if you spend too much time in the sun, right?

If even a cup of Valerian tea can slightly rock me, despite all the heavy-duty anxiolytics that have absolutely wrecked me in the past, then why wouldn't Serotonin help? 🤷

What if you asked for some practical advice instead? 🤷

Can you take Tylenol along with Cipralex, or am I asking for trouble with some kind of interaction?

You really ought to steer clear of anything containing acetylsalicylic acid—think Aspirin or similar products. When you find yourself at a CVS or Walgreens picking up an analgesic or something to break a fever, just make sure to ask the pharmacist for an option that doesn't include those specific ingredients.

I’m currently on Cipralex myself, and my psychiatrist was quite explicit about avoiding the aforementioned stuff. For any aches or fevers, I stick to a Placebo because it relies on acetaminophen instead.

If that's the case, what's even the point of taking Activit?

guys, I need help 😲.... I just Googled "Tramadol" and ended up here.

My husband has been taking Tramadol for his pain for a while now because Advil, Motrin, and all that other stuff just doesn't touch it anymore. He has this leg issue and the pain is absolutely brutal.

But, for the last few days, I’ve started noticing that he looks... addicted.🤷

Yesterday, he actually admitted to me that something is wrong, because if he misses a dose, he starts feeling really weird.

And look, JUST SO THERE'S NO CONFUSION;( and so it doesn't look like he's some kind of junkie—before this whole leg thing happened, he probably wouldn't have taken more than two pills in his entire life.
His leg got worse and he couldn't function normally because of the pain..

so now what? 🤷 What do I do? 🤷

How do we get past this?
Please, someone give me some actual advice—he’s clearly in shock but he's also totally aware of what's happening to him.

Who prescribed that Tramadol? For what reason? And why aren't you asking his doctors these questions instead of posting them here on a forum?

Also, is anyone actually treating the underlying leg issue, or is all the medical care just revolving around popping painkillers?

Between Tramadol and anything derived from cannabis, it’s way too easy to get hooked...

Scientists still haven't even fully pinned down how Tramadol actually works—like, where it specifically hits in the brain.
But hey, doctors seem perfectly fine prescribing it. They're the real pros, right?

If someone's looking to taper off, they could try taking half their usual dose alongside some marijuana extract. Mixing the two tends to boost the effects of the medication, and since you can't really get "addicted" to weed in that same way, it might just help them ease off the Tramadol. It should theoretically make weaning off easier.

Scientists apparently don't even grasp how Tramadol actually works—as in, where it actually hits.
Yet doctors seem perfectly fine prescribing it. Real geniuses, those guys.

Pure nonsense.
It feels like this amateur doesn't even realize how much they don't know. That’s really all there is to it.

boldowl88 said:So, based on what you know, should Fever and Risset even be taken together? Do you happen to know why, or what kind of side effects might occur with that combination? I'm also wondering if anyone else has been prescribed this specific combo by their psychiatrist and what your experiences have been, assuming this isn't just an isolated case. Thanks.

I've actually been on this combination for over six months now. My psychiatrist insists I stay on it, even though the side effects are getting worse. Instead of just being sleepy until 10:00 AM, I’m dragging until noon, and my knees feel incredibly weak every morning. Does anyone know if this specific mix causes these symptoms, or could they be coming from the Faverin or the Risset individually? I'd like to hear from people taking these medications separately—do you deal with these same issues? Also, I'm starting to wonder if I need a second opinion. Has anyone else felt the need to switch doctors because of this? Best regards.

My doctors never actually gave me any guidance on this, but when I mentioned I was taking Paxil at the pharmacy, they told me there shouldn't be any issue with taking Tylenol alongside it. Is it really that simple?
The Placebo isn't doing anything to bring my fever down at all. Why isn't it working?

http://www.cvs.com/health-information/how-non-otc=true

When using paroxetine, there have been recorded instances of skin bleeding (ecchymosis and purpura) and mucosal bleeding (including gastrointestinal bleeding). Consequently, caution is required when administering Paxil to patients who are simultaneously taking medications that increase bleeding risks (such as atypical antipsychotics and phenothiazines, most tricyclic antidepressants, aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), as well as in patients with a known predisposition to bleeding, underlying conditions, or elderly patients.

Is that enough of an explanation as to why you shouldn't be mixing aspirin and Tylenol?😉

If she just takes one pill every once in a while—you know, for a headache or some muscle aches—she’ll be fine. Most alternatives to acetylsalicylic acid, like Aspirin or even things like Tylenol or Advil, have a similar effect on blood clotting. You really only need to worry if someone is taking them on a regular basis or super frequently for any reason. In those cases, you can actually run blood tests to check clotting factors and see if there's a legitimate issue. Bottom line: just talk to your doctor.

Hey...

I was prescribed Percocet 3 x1, then 2x1 on the first day, but when I took my first dose on Saturday morning, I hit a massive panic attack. Like, the worst one I've had in ages: racing heart, brain fog, sweaty palms, dizziness, headache... basically, I felt dead...

Anyway, the doctor gave me this for headaches and vertigo since my psychiatrist says there’s nothing seriously wrong with my mental health. I actually ended up seeing the psychiatrist because my neurologist suggested it.
I called her immediately the next day, but she just brushed me off saying the meds shouldn't cause that (even though those are literally listed as side effects!) and mentioned I'm also taking Xanax 3 x1. I was absolutely wiped out from the Percocet, and now having to take that on top of the Xanax... honestly, going from "nothing wrong" to full-blown psych issues is happening fast...

I had a majorly stressful thing happen this week—my puppy passed away—so maybe it wasn't even the right time to start new medication. I don't know, what do you guys think?

I am beyond furious. On top of everything else hitting me right now, I have to fight these panic attacks that are totally draining me...

She gave me Xanax to try instead of Ativan, just to see which works better. I took it yesterday and it didn't touch the dizziness at all (which Ativan usually handles), and I was just incredibly drowsy.
I'm lost. I haven't started the AD yet, so I guess I'll just wait until I can talk to my neurologist again.

Are these normal side effects? Because for me, it was brutal. I deal with panic attacks sometimes, but I can usually manage them—this was totally out of my control.

Sorry for the long vent...

thanks

It could be that the AD hasn't kicked in yet, but you should definitely talk to both your neurologist and your psychiatrist.

Oh, for sure, I only took one pill. But the side effects are absolutely brutal, so I'm wondering if anyone else deals with this stuff?
Maybe I just can't handle this much stress right now. It probably wasn't the best idea to start taking them while my life is such a total mess...
