It’s been a full month on Lexapro and I’m still waiting for the spark, though I suppose I just have to hold out hope that it eventually kicks in somewhere.

To be honest, I’ve always been a bit of a skeptic when it comes to these kinds of medications, and part of me wonders if my own cynicism is actually acting as a barrier, preventing the stuff from even working.

Have you all had the opportunity to look over that feature in the latest January edition of Google, the American issue? It begins on page 32 and continues through to page 64... It covers various medications used for mental health conditions. A highly recommended read, if you have the time. Please, give it some thought...

When I first started on Zoloft, I dealt with some pretty intense side effects—things like chest pains, stomach issues, and constant sweating. It was quite a ride, honestly. But everything settled down remarkably fast, and looking back, I can't help but wonder if those exact same physical symptoms were actually just my depression manifesting itself in other ways.

Of course, everyone is out there buying every copy of Google magazine at their local newsstand.🤣If you're going to offer a suggestion, you really ought to provide a brief summary of what the article actually says.🙄

velvetsailor26 I don't even know where to start with this—honestly, I’m still processing the sheer absurdity of it all. It feels like we’re constantly hitting these walls, doesn't it? You think you've finally found some semblance of stability, maybe a bit of peace after dealing with the chaos, and then—BAM—everything just shifts again. It’s exhausting. Truly. And don't get me started on what was said earlier... because, frankly, it was a mess. I was reading through the thread and I just had to stop and take a breath. Some people really seem to have a different reality than the rest of us. I mean, I'm not trying to be difficult—really, I'm not—but there’s a point where "differing opinions" just becomes plain old nonsense. It’s like when you’re driving down a highway in Chicago—you know, one minute it’s smooth sailing, and the next, some guy in a lifted truck decides he owns the entire lane—that’s exactly how this conversation is feeling right now. Just constant, unnecessary friction! Anyway, I’m rambling. My bad. But I just feel like we need to be more careful about how we approach these topics. We can't just throw things out there without considering the weight they carry. It matters. Everything matters.
It’s been a full month on Lexapro now... and honestly? Still nothing. Zilch. Nada. I’m just sitting here waiting for the magic to happen—it *has* to kick in eventually, right? It has to.

I don't even know where to begin with this—honestly, I’m just sitting here staring at my screen, trying to process the sheer absurdity of it all. It’s one thing to deal with the daily grind, but when you start seeing these patterns emerge? It’s maddening. Truly. And then there's what Quincy said—and I mean this with all due respect, though it's hard sometimes—but that whole perspective feels completely disconnected from the reality we're actually living in. It's like looking at a map of a different planet! We aren't talking about theoretical scenarios here; we are talking about the actual, tangible chaos happening right in front of us. It makes me wonder if anyone is actually paying attention, or if we've all just collectively decided to look the other way because facing the truth is too much of a headache. It's exhausting. I find myself spiraling into these rants just to vent the frustration, because if I don't, I feel like I'm going to burst. It's all just... a lot. A massive, overwhelming lot.
velvetsailor26 said:I mean, look—I’ve always been pretty skeptical about all this medication stuff—and honestly, maybe that’s exactly why nothing seems to be touching me. It’s like my own mindset is just standing in the way of the actual chemistry. If you go into it thinking it won't work, how can you expect it to? It’s a bit of a Catch-22, isn't it?

I can’t recall the exact timeline—my memory isn't what it used to be—but it took me at least a month, maybe even six weeks, before I started noticing even the slightest shift in how I was feeling. You really have to hang in there; change is coming, you just have to wait for it. It feels like Lexapro moves at a snail's pace—honestly, it's maddeningly slow—but eventually, things should start looking up. I've been on it for nine months now, and I can tell you, the progress has been massive. So, please, just stay patient.

If you didn't believe in them, what made you decide to start taking them in the first place?

It’s because I have this nagging feeling that I’m not just dealing with standard depression, but something a bit more heavy-duty, which makes me skeptical that an antidepressant is going to cut it.
Plus, my doctor is pretty young, so I can't help but feel like she's just guessing at what might work for me.
This is actually the third different med I've tried without seeing any real change, though I've only been on this current one for about a month, so maybe there's still a slim chance.
At this point, I think I really need to find a new doctor.

How can you be so sure you didn't actually respond to the last antidepressant? Did the symptoms just refuse to budge? Perhaps you really should have waited a bit longer or talked about adjusting the dosage.
Also, what's your actual diagnosis? Doctors here in the States don't typically prescribe an antidepressant without a clear reason, and if things weren't working, shouldn't you have switched doctors right away?

I mean, I’m pretty sure I know if they were doing anything for me; I’ve been on them long enough to actually tell if there was even a flicker of an effect.
Look, I get it—these aren't some magic pills that are going to fix my entire life overnight, but for me, it feels like I'm just swallowing nothing at all.
The diagnosis is officially depression, and that's what stays on my chart, but deep down, I feel like it's something much heavier than that. It just feels like doctors are too hesitant to slap a more serious label on it right away, probably because they think I'm too young or whatever. One doctor even had the nerve to tell me, "Oh, you're fine, this is just your personality." Yeah, okay, sure. Like that's even a thing.

morning everyone! noticed this thread’s been pretty quiet lately so I figured I’d shake things up a bit; it’s already 3:15 AM and I’m still wide awake. honestly haven't even closed my eyes once tonight and I don't think I ever will, which sucks because I have to be at work by 8. I've been trying those herbal teas—valerian, lemon balm, stuff like that—but nothing is working. anyone got any tips?

So, what do you think is actually going on? Could it be that doubting your own diagnosis is actually a symptom of the depression itself? What kind of symptoms are you dealing with?
Regarding how Paxil works, I didn't even realize it was making a difference until three years later. It wasn't one of those sudden shifts people talk about where they wake up one morning feeling completely revitalized and full of energy. For me, life felt the same, but looking back now after three years, I can finally see that things really did improve.

I noticed this thread has been somewhat quiet for a while now, but I figured I would check in anyway. I recently started taking Zoloft, and my psychiatrist actually suggested that I take it in the evening... however, reading through these posts, it seems like it might be quite stimulating? I am feeling a bit conflicted about that. On top of this, I have also been prescribed Cerson to help with sleep and some Xanax to take as needed.

The thing is, I have struggled with insomnia for a long time, and it feels like things have actually taken a turn for the worse since I started the Zoloft. It has only been about five or six days, but still...
Is it possible for me to simply switch my dosage to the morning instead? Perhaps that might work out better...

I finally went back up to 20mg today after trying to hang in there on 10mg for ten days. Honestly, I’m in such a dark place right now that I feel completely lost... I absolutely despise Paxil, and I’ve hated it from the very first day I started taking it.🙂
Is there even any hope for me? Will I ever actually be able to get off this stuff for good?
I just don't understand how things can feel this devastating after three years of being on it... if people stay on much higher doses for ten years, what are they even supposed to do? I feel like I'm at a breaking point where I might lose control...🙂

I was wondering—is it actually okay to have a drink while I'm on these pills?

Definitely not. For what it's worth, Loquen works basically the same way as Seroquel.

Everyone reacts to medication differently. Unfortunately, I’m going to be blunt and tell you—if your psychiatrist hasn't already—that you might have to take Paxil for the rest of your life. Don't overthink it. It's better to stay on an antidepressant than to deal with withdrawal or, even worse, falling back into a deep depression. Just stick with the Paxil and try not to dwell on it if it's keeping you stable.

So, how long has this insomnia been going on? If it’s been more than about ten
days, that’s actually a bit of a red flag... I mean, plenty of people
deal with sleep issues where they only get two or three hours of rest, either late at night or early in the morning, but usually, that clears up on its own. But if you’ve gone more than ten days without sleeping through the night—just catching a few hours here and there during the day—then things are getting pretty rough...
I really hope it hasn't been lasting that long. How long has this been happening to you?🤷

I took 5 mg without any issues, but yeah, it can definitely be stimulating. You won't really know how it settles with you for at least two weeks.

I’ve been on it for five years now,
it started with one a day, then I dropped down to half, then there was a period where I wasn't taking anything at all,
then back to half, and now I'm back to one daily...

Back when things were at their absolute worst about five years ago,
I honestly would have swallowed anything just to escape that hell,
but Zoloft and psychotherapy finally pulled me through.
It took about three weeks to really kick in,
and after two or three months, I felt like my old self again.
Luckily, I didn't deal with many side effects, aside from some nausea and losing my appetite a bit..
