Of course, briskmoose7—we aren't all cut from the same cloth. But I guess you could look into trying Celexa? It’s not quite the same thing, even if some people might disagree with me. It just seems to have a much better, more effective mechanism of action.👍

briskmoose7 said:I felt this absolute crushing sensation—like my nerves were literally snapping or I was about to drop dead right then and there. But honestly? It’s just me. I see other people going through the same thing and they aren't even feeling it half as hard. We're all wired differently, isn't that just how it goes?

Make sure you take some Xanax with the Celexa. Personally, I used to take Apaurin. I also felt like my skin was crawling... those side effects are brutal, but they usually pass in a few days. It was absolute hell for me too.

If you're terrified of them coming back, just take half a pill. It helps...

Did your psychiatrist even tell you to stop taking it?

So, he told me to stop taking that old med altogether and swapped it for something else. But honestly? I'm still freaking out about the side effects. Every time I take this new stuff, I start shaking—literally trembling from the fear that I'm going to run into those same nasty symptoms all over again.

I started on Coaxil, and honestly, after just one pill, I was convinced I was going to drop dead. I quit cold turkey on my own, but my psychiatrist insisted I stick with it, so I eventually managed to work my way up to a full dose...
Unfortunately, they didn't do a damn thing for me, so now I'm on Celexa. I was terrified to even take them because I was scared of feeling that same way all over again.
So, I spent a few days just taking half a pill at a time. When I finally moved up to a whole one, I felt absolutely miserable for a couple of days, but I managed to deal with it using some Xanax. Right now, I'm at one and a half pills, and I'll probably move up to two soon...

Which antidepressant did they give you?

briskmoose7 said:So I went to see a psychiatrist because I was dealing with some mild depression, and he put me on Prozac and valium. Well, after my third dose—half a pill of the Prozac—I felt absolutely terrible. Now? I can't even look at the stuff without feeling sick. Anyone else here actually dealt with Prozac? What was your experience like?

I played by the rules and took my Celexa like a good little girl for almost a month, and let me tell you, it completely broke me. I ended up in the emergency psychiatric ward. Was it because of the Celexa? Who knows. Could it have been anything else? Honestly, who knows.

So, did you have side effects the whole time, or did they just hit you out of nowhere?

What dose were you on?

Thanks

I ended up hitting a massive serotonin storm after taking way too much Zoloft, which pretty much led to a suicide attempt. I’m doing okay now, thank God, but honestly, it pisses me off how many indifferent, incompetent psychiatrists are out there. They can look a potential suicide victim right in the face and just screw them over without even blinking. In my opinion, they should have their licenses stripped and be thrown straight into prison. Absolute bottom-feeders.

Hey there... I’ve been on Xanax 0.25 in the mornings and evenings, along with 75mg of Effexor every morning, for about two weeks now. I’m feeling alright, though my appetite has definitely taken a hit, which I suppose isn't necessarily a bad thing.... I haven't been able to find much useful information online regarding Effexor, so if anyone here has some experience with it, I'd appreciate it if you could share...

Alventa is basically the same thing as "my" Effexor. It’s easily one of the heavy hitters on the market right now—what they call fourth-generation antidepressants because of that dual action mechanism. You want me to shoot you over some info on it? I've got a little write-up, though it's in English.

How much were you taking?

When using Zoloft, you really need to start low, like 25 mg, and work your way up from there...

🤷

Heh, I hit 50 immediately, totally solo without needing any extra anxiety meds or antipsychotics to hold my hand...

Well, 50 isn't actually that high a dose,
maybe you just haven't found the right medication yet...

Hey, check this out—I found some solid articles on Wikipedia that actually break down depression and how they treat it:

Venlafaxine (Effexor said:an arylalkanolamine serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). First introduced by Wyeth in 1993, it is licensed for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), as an anxiolytic, and comorbid indications. In 2007, venlafaxine was the sixth most commonly prescribed antidepressant on the U.S. retail market, with 17.2 million prescriptions. In children and adolescents, venlafaxine (like other anti-depressants) has a potential to increase suicidal thoughts, attempts and events of self-harm.

Serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are a class of antidepressant drugs used in the treatment of major depression and other mood disorders. They are sometimes also used to treat anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), chronic neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), and for the relief of menopausal symptoms.

SNRIs act upon and increase the levels of two neurotransmitters in the brain that are known to play an important part in mood, these being serotonin and norepinephrine. This can be contrasted with the more widely-used selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) which act more selectively on serotonin.

That’s not even the point, man. I was already dealing with suicidal thoughts, and this stuff just pushed me right over the edge because that dosage absolutely wrecked my brain. Honestly, who knows, maybe Prozac would have actually worked if they'd tapered me on slowly or mixed it with other meds instead of just throwing me into the deep end like this. I mean, any idiot knows you don't treat someone who's potentially suicidal by just hitting them "straight in the head" with a dose like, "here, take 50mg and see how you feel"... what an absolute moron...

Yeah, the instructions clearly state the patient needs constant supervision,
especially if they're dealing with suicidal thoughts.

So, what antidepressant did you switch to after that Prozac mess nearly finished you off?

God bless everyone. I’m the new guy here in this little club for the anxious, the depressed, and those who have spent way too much time convincing themselves of absolute nonsense. Could someone please give me a quick rundown on how to post? Otherwise, I might have to reach for some Helix immediately.

So, I’m currently on Effexor, Helix, and Luvox, and honestly? The pills alone didn't pull me out of the trenches. Don't get me wrong, they definitely helped, but at the end of the day, those little tablets aren't going to save you unless you actually decide to step up and fight for yourself. You've gotta be the one to make that move.

Before I started on Zoloft, I wasn't taking anything at all...

Gary Thompson6, you didn't just "make this up" in your head, and neither did I—you're dealing with a CLINICAL ILLNESS, okay? Understand me?

So, what was it that finally pushed you to make that change? What were you aiming for?

IT’S A FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL, plain and simple. There isn't any bigger goal than just staying alive. I wasn't about to let myself end up in a cemetery when I was only 25 years old, as simple as that...
