Michael Lee5 said:I've heard people say a test might give a false positive if there's even a tiny trace of blood in your urine. I think I read that somewhere else on this forum... I mean, it seems pretty unlikely, but I think someone was quoting their OB-GYN about it.

Itโ€™s definitely possible. In my case, the test initially showed a plus sign, then I had some spotting, and right after thatโ€”on the very same dayโ€”the test came back negative. The only way to make sense of it (and I really don't want to admit that an expensive test could have been wrong ๐Ÿ˜) is that it was a biochemical pregnancy that just resolved itself. If I hadn't taken the test, I probably would have just assumed it was my regular period. Instead, I went through all this stress and panic not knowing what was happening, only to find out in the end that nothing was there. But honestly, it doesn't matter much now; I was just caught off guard.

Hey guys, I have a quick question (it might sound a little silly, but Iโ€™m just stuck ๐Ÿ˜)
I used a Clearblue test, and it showed two vertical lines. I wasn't really looking out for it needing to show a "+" sign since I'm more used to those cheaper brands, so I figured if there were lines in both windows, it meant a positive result.
So, does anyone here have experience with this? Is it only considered positive when it shows a "+", or could mine have been positive and the line just didn't show up clearly? (I took the test right on the day my period was supposed to start).
Thanks so much! I tried searching online, and apparently, there are some versions that just show a line and others that show a "+", but I'm not sure which ones are actually sold here in the States. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows the deal, I'd really appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚

What does the instruction manual say? I always stick to the budget brands, so I honestly have no clue how these fancy ones work...๐Ÿคฃ

I ended up in the same boat, which is exactly how I got myself worked up... The test showed a plus sign, but I couldn't find any information online about what it means if you only see one lineโ€”like, does it mean it's negative, or is it still technically a positive? Maybe the line was just incredibly faint and I didn't look closely enough at the test itself. The real issue is that I started bleeding the very next day, and when I had my blood work done three days later, the HCG level was less than 0.6. Now I'm just sitting here wondering: was that actually a positive result that just happened to be an early chemical pregnancy, or was it a negative all along and I just stressed myself out for nothing?

With Clearblue, a plus sign means positive, and two lines mean negative.
I've wasted plenty of tests on false negatives myself, so trust me on this one.

So, if both little boxes only showed one vertical line, that means the test is negative? Man, I can't believe I wasted a few days stressing out over such a silly mistake. ๐Ÿ˜ต๐Ÿ˜ต
(And that was with a fancy test ๐Ÿ˜). Thanks, Morgan Evans3, you really helped clear up my confusion.

Iโ€™m losing my mind here again!!!!๐Ÿคฆ

Iโ€™m about two or three days late, but Iโ€™ve been dealing with "symptoms" for a few days now: heavy yellow discharge, peeing constantly, mild headaches, sore nipples, hunger pangs, sudden hot flashes, irritability, some light nausea, and weird smells that only I seem to notice... Itโ€™s gross.
Then last night around 10 PM, out of nowhere while I was just sitting on the couch reading, I got hit with such a sudden urge to vomit that I barely made it to the bathroom before throwing up everything. One second I felt fine, the nextโ€”bam.

I took a test this morning, but just one of those cheap strip ones, and it was negative. Right after that, I noticed a tiny pinkish-brown smear of blood when I went to the bathroom, but nothing since then. Now, as Iโ€™m typing this, my stomach feels a bit nauseous and Iโ€™ve got those cramps in my lower abdomen, like my period is about to start.

The constant waiting is exhausting. People always tell me to "just relax," but as soon as Iโ€™m even a day or two late, I turn into a total monster, overanalyzing every single little thing.
Deep down, I know itโ€™s probably nothing and Iโ€™m just imagining things, but Iโ€™m still pinning my hopes on the second test in the box (they come in pairs) that Iโ€™ll take in a couple of daysโ€”unless that little spot of blood turns into a full-blown flood first....

brightfalcon14, I'm crossing my fingers for you. Hoping you dodge a period and see a positive result on the next test.
I don't want to bring the mood down with my own experience, but last month around day 25, I had backaches and sore breasts. My cycles are usually 28 to 29 days. After a little while, I noticed this light, cream-colored discharge and was absolutely certain I was pregnant. I was over the moon. Usually, my periods are incredibly painful, but this time it was just my back. Then, everything started on the second day, so... yeah.
Still, I'm pulling for you. Just remember that plenty of women deal with all sorts of different discharge during pregnancy, too.

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ I was wondering if anyone else here has gone through something similar to what I'm experiencing right now?
Iโ€™m currently taking a break from oral contraceptives. My doctor suggested it since I'm only 21.
During this break, my first period arrived after 30 days, the second after 36, and the third after 38. Now, it's been 47 days since my last period, which started on February 12th.
Is this kind of irregularity normal when you stop taking birth control pills?
We had one instance where we didn't use a condom, though he didn't ejaculate inside me. That happened on the very last day of my previous period, just as the bleeding had tapered off enough to have intercourse. For every other encounter later in the month, we used a condom.

I bought a single-step test today and took it this afternoonโ€”not using my first morning urine. It came back negative, which is actually what I was hoping to see. ๐Ÿ™‚ However, I also picked up a Clearblue test, so I plan to take that tomorrow morning with my first urine. Even though the instructions say you can use it at any time of day, it has already been 47 days since my last period.

Could this delay be caused by my hormones just recalibrating after stopping the pill?
I've also been dealing with some pain near my right ovary this month. I went in for blood work, and my sedimentation rate was slightly elevated, but my doctor examined me and didn't find anything concerning, so she didn't prescribe any medication...

One more thing... this has actually happened once before. I missed my period for a while and was panicking; I took two tests and both were negative, yet my period still wouldn't come. Eventually, my doctor prescribed some tablets that I took for four days, and once I finished them, my period finally started.

Oh, believe me, I know the drill. I go through phantom symptoms every single month... ๐Ÿ™„
And predictably, my period showed up. ๐Ÿ˜  ๐Ÿ˜  ๐Ÿ˜

Anyway, thanks for the support. Wishing you nothing but the bestโ€”hope it happens fast for you!๐Ÿ™‚

We'll get our little ones eventually... I know it.๐Ÿ‘

Help, I really need some advice here! So, my last period was February 26th, and now Iโ€™m already five days lateโ€”which is huge because my cycle is usually clockwork! Iโ€™ve already taken two tests. The first one was a pregnancy mini test on the very first day I missed my period, and it showed this super, super, *super* faint line. Like, you almost had to squint to see it! Then the next day, I tried a Clearblue, and even though it gave me a positive, that vertical line was also incredibly pale. Barely there! Anyway, I went in for my routine breast ultrasound today, and my doctor actually checked to see if there was anything pregnancy-related showing up. She didn't see a gestational sac, just some thickening of the uterine lining. If I am pregnant, Iโ€™d be about 4.3 weeks along right now. My doctor mentioned that maybe it's just too early to see the sac yet? What do you guys think??? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿคท๐Ÿคท

Ugh, tell me about itโ€”Iโ€™m dealing with the exact same stress right now! ๐Ÿ˜ข

My period was supposed to show up around the 23rd, but the month is basically over and... nothing. ๐Ÿคท Whatโ€™s really messing with my head is that I don't even feel those usual pre-period symptoms, you know? Like, zero signs.

1. Is it too early to take a test, or should I just go ahead and grab one? And please, if you have any recs on which brand actually works...
2. Could my cycle be delayed because of those antibiotics I was on for over two weeks?

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜˜

Lana, even a tiny little faint line counts as a pregnancyโ€”seriously, go get a blood test at the lab to check those HCG levels. Once you do that, hold off on booking a doctor's appointment until you're around seven weeks in, because thatโ€™s usually when you can actually see the heartbeat on the ultrasound. Huge congrats! ๐Ÿ™‚

Mark Fisher3, itโ€™s totally possible your period is late because of those antibiotics, but you should definitely take a test just to be sure. Since you're already almost a week behind, you could just grab one of those cheap ones from the drugstore, but honestly, a Clearblue is worth itโ€”it gives you a super clear "yes" if it's happening. Fingers crossed for you! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Thanks so much, amberheron62! Honestly, I just couldn't help myselfโ€”I had to run another test a few minutes ago. And wow, this time you can actually see that second line perfectly! ๐Ÿ˜

My cycle has been all over the place latelyโ€”itโ€™s gone 30, 25, 27, 30, 28, 26 over the last few months. I took a test two days ago on 27 DC, but it was negative. My temperature has been sitting at 99.3ยฐF for three days now, which is weird because itโ€™s usually around 97.9ยฐF to 98.2ยฐF. Today is 29 DC and thereโ€™s still nothing... yesterday I had some light cramping, and for the past couple of days, I've had that discharge like my period is about to start. But today? Absolutely nothing. No symptoms at all. I guess I'm just terrified of being disappointed again if it actually shows up today or tomorrow...๐Ÿ™‚

I gave birth about three and a half months ago, and my cycle is still a total mess. My first period showed up roughly 45 days after delivery, then the second one came just 22 days later, and nowโ€”nothing. Iโ€™m currently on day 31 of this cycle. Before I had the baby, my cycles were pretty predictable, usually landing somewhere between 33 and 35 days. Can a pregnancy test actually be reliable for someone in my position? We had sex on day 15 of my cycle, but we pulled out. Since my cycle was all over the place, there's absolutely no way for me to know if those were even my fertile days.
Iโ€™ve already gone through three tests so far. Two were clearly negative, but on the Clearblue one... I saw this faint, vertical line???? To me, it looked less like a positive and more like a defective test. Honestly, I have no idea what to make of this. Should I be panicking or just assuming the test is broken?

If I were you, Iโ€™d just hang tight for another week before taking another test. If it still comes up negative then, go ahead and get a blood test done just to be absolutely certain... good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚

Can you actually get your period if you have an ectopic pregnancy? And if you did, would a pregnancy test even show up positive or negative?

The test could definitely come back positive.
