Look, it’s pretty straightforward. You just head over to a private lab—something like Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp here in Chicago—and just tell them you need to get your beta levels checked. I'm not sure about the specific clinics in other cities, but that's how it works. If you're going through your primary care doctor using a referral, it's the exact same deal; you show up, ask for the beta test, and that's it. They aren't pulling some massive dossier on you; they're just running that one specific test.

Hey everyone! I’m super new to this forum and would love to get some input from you guys...
I’ve been in a long-term relationship, and for about a year now, we’ve been using the withdrawal method, which has honestly never caused me any issues before...
My last period started on March 27th, but my boyfriend and I were intimate right during my fertile window—roughly between April 6th and April 11th—using that same withdrawal method. Lately, though, I’ve been dealing with these absolutely brutal pains in my lower back and abdomen...and I have seriously never felt anything like this before my period hits. On top of that, I’ve been running a bit of a fever, somewhere between 99°F and 99.5°F, and I’ve had this weird, light nausea...kind of like that hollow feeling you get when you're starving...
Also, just as a side note, my period usually shows up a couple of days early...
Do you think there's a chance I'm pregnant, or is this all just signs that my period is coming?
And honestly, if I am pregnant, it wouldn't be a bad thing at all in my situation...😉😉🙂🙂
Thanks so much in advance for sharing your thoughts!

Look, you're either pregnant or you aren't, nobody here has a crystal ball. But hey, let us know how it goes once you take a test😉

Okay, look, I know nobody’s got a crystal ball or anything, and I'm definitely not trying to play psychic here... but I was really curious to hear what you guys think. Is there any chance I might actually be pregnant?
I’m totally lost on whether it’s too soon to grab a test, especially since my period isn't even supposed to show up for another week...

Yes, it’s too early to tell. However, there is a possibility she could be pregnant if you had unprotected intercourse following an ejaculation without cleaning up first.

Honestly, they could have pulled it off without even trying again. I’ve had a few people around my neighborhood confirm the exact same thing happened to them lately, and I really used to think it was physically impossible, but apparently not... It’s like some kid suddenly decides he can swim and—presto—your absolute favorite little creature just pops up out of nowhere!

Regarding the symptoms you described, it is important to recognize that the physical indicators of early pregnancy and those of PMS are virtually identical, meaning it could genuinely be either one.
As for your method of contraception, it is a well-established fact that no method is entirely foolproof, and the withdrawal method carries a significantly higher risk of failure than most people realize.

Generally speaking, if at least twelve days have passed since your ovulation—assuming you are certain of its timing—or if your anticipated period is imminent, you should take a pregnancy test to resolve this uncertainty.

Please be sure to update us on the outcome🙂, and I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you receive the news you are hoping for.👍

I’ll hang tight until April 27th and then get that test set up—unless, you know, life happens and I can swing it sooner...
And don't worry, I'll definitely keep you guys posted on how it goes!

So, I'm back here again... after almost two years... I haven't really had any symptoms—well, maybe just some dizziness (which I figured was just low iron)—and then this morning I took a test, just to rule it out, you know... and there were two lines... I honestly can't believe it... I did have my period, though it was a bit lighter than usual, but... wow...

Well, hey, figured I’d throw my symptoms into the ring too...
My last period started on April 8th, and we had unprotected sex right after. Then, two days ago, I got hit with this wave of nausea and vomiting so bad I basically spent the whole day stuck in bed. Now I’m getting these sharp, stabbing pains on my right side whenever I sit down or stand up. Plus, my back is killing me... It’s probably way too early for a test, right? Has anyone else dealt with stuff like this, or am I just jumping the gun on symptoms? My next one isn't due until May 3rd.

Girls, I am completely lost.... I feel like I'm going crazy... 😢
So, on January 15th ( 🙂 ), I had unprotected sex.... I went to a private OBGYN the very next day to get a prescription for those emergency contraceptive pills.... but she refused to give them to me, saying there was no need because I hadn't ovulated yet, so fertilization was basically impossible.... I thought, okay, great, no need to deal with those pills and no worries.... but I guess my gut wouldn't leave me alone. I tried to wait until my next period, which came on February 12th, and it was really weird.... I mean, I thought it was fine, and my doctor told me my period might be a little strange because of the vaginal suppositories I was using, so she said not to worry.... after that weird period, I took a test and it was negative. I figured, okay, I'm definitely losing it....
But this feeling that something is happening inside me just won't go away... I’ve had these sensations where it feels like my throat is tightening, or like something is stuck there, then I'll get hit with dizziness, then my heart starts racing.... nothing constant, just random throughout the day.... so I waited for my next period on March 15th. That one was totally normal. I didn't really feel like I was having my period, but it was pretty heavy, just like before I saw the doctor. I took another test.... negative again.... I thought, alright, you are officially insane... and whatever...
Then, about 12 days ago, I get my period again and everything seems fine, except my ovaries ache, my back hurts, and the bleeding is really heavy.... but even after the period ended, the pain hasn't stopped. It's not constant, but it comes and goes, and just thinking about being pregnant gives me a headache, and my nose is all stuffed up... so I take another test (honestly, I'm about to lose my mind), and this is the last one I'll ever do... I promise... so I take it this morning.... and it's POSITIVE... I don't know whether to cry or laugh, or just scream... I have no idea what to do with myself.... I called my boyfriend... I told him we need to see each other urgently... he just says, "well, what happened? just come over and we'll talk." Once I'm with him, I tell him everything and show him the test. He says, "let's go to the doctor, I'll drive you, let's not wait around." We go to the OBGYN and he does a full ultrasound, checking the uterus and everything outside of it, feeling around, but he sees nothing of the fetus... he tells me, "I don't see anything, it's impossible that you're pregnant, there's nothing here..." hmmm.... before the exam, I told him that if I am actually pregnant, I must be at least 3 months along... because every single time after that, we used protection...

A friend said to me today, "Sweetie, are you pregnant? You've been acting so weird lately, you even have this glow in your eyes... I don't know, you're just different..." And I was just like... 🤷

On Monday, I'm going to get a blood test for HCG levels, just so I can finally put this to rest once and for all...

Ugh, girls, I know I've probably been venting more than anyone else ever has... but I am seriously so confused, I don't know what to think... I'm probably going to lose it... please, tell me what you think...

Which test did you end up using?
I'm asking because I totally spiraled last time—I saw a positive result when I wasn't actually pregnant at all... 🤦
I used a Clearblue, and it showed two lines (instead of the little plus sign), and since I’ve been burned by those cheap drugstore tests before—where any two lines mean it's a "yes"—I just assumed it was positive. I went straight to the doctor to get my hormone levels checked via an Alphabet test, but of course, everything came back normal... I only had such a massive panic attack because I was having such a hard time focusing enough to actually read the instructions properly. 😂
It wasn't until a few days after the whole ordeal that I finally realized Clearblue specifically needs to show that plus sign... I honestly laughed until I cried at how much of a dummy I was being.

I'm pretty sure you aren't pregnant. Tests can show a false positive sometimes—people talk about this on the forums all the time, and I actually know a girl who went through the exact same thing. But if, by some crazy miracle, you actually are pregnant, there's no way you're three months along. An OB-GYN would have definitely seen something by now.

I totally get where you're coming from—I actually went through the exact same thing and thought I was dealing with a false positive myself😂😂
but honestly, just go grab an Alphabet test so you can be 100% sure about what's going on...

Honestly, ladies, I don't even know... I feel like I'm going half-crazy from all these tests (I think I spent almost my entire paycheck at the doctor's office) and just from the sheer amount of stress I've been under lately...

The test I used was a Prima... just the standard kind... you know, two lines means positive, one line means negative... You can only imagine the look on my face when I saw those two lines.... So then I wake up my partner... he’s still totally groggy... like, WHAT HAPPENED??? TELL ME NOW, HONEY? IT CAN'T BE THAT SERIOUS THAT YOU CAN'T JUST SAY IT RIGHT NOW?... And when I finally told him I was pregnant, his first reaction was just, "WAIT, REALLY???" 😁 Then he drags me off to get some gin, we're bickering right in front of the urgent care clinic, and just imagine... WHO IN A MOMENT LIKE THIS THINKS ABOUT FINDING A PARKING SPOT AT THE HOSPITAL? Of course, by the time we got back to the cars, I had quite the surprise waiting for me....

It also seemed really weird to me that nothing showed yet... I mean... we only slept without protection that one single time, during the first month.... Every other time we used condoms.... Based on that, I should be like three months along by now... and there is no way you wouldn't notice being three months pregnant!!!!

Anyway, I'm definitely heading in on Monday to get an Alphabet test... then I'll know for sure... ugh

My period is about 20 days late, so I decided to take two different home pregnancy tests about five days apart. The first one didn't show anything at all, but then I tried that high-end Clearblue test, and it actually showed a very faint positive line.

Since then, I went in to get my beta hCG levels checked, and here is what the results came back as:

Total HCG... 0.1 IU/L

I was wondering if anyone might be able to weigh in on this—is that considered a high level, a low level, or is it just within the normal range?
The staff at the clinic where I had the blood drawn told me they aren't allowed to interpret the results for me.🤷

Ugh, I am so incredibly sorry, but it looks like that Alphabet test didn't catch a pregnancy.

It’s totally possible you had a chemical pregnancy, so honestly, your best bet is to grab a quick appointment with your OBGYN just to be safe and get some clarity.

I once had a false positive on a Clearblue too. Either that, or I just hallucinated the second line because I wanted it so badly. 🤷
I'm sorry. 🙂
