We both work and we live with our parents. I'm 28 and she's 25. We have talked about it before, honestly, and we both feel like it wouldn't fit our lives right now and that we aren't ready.

😕
If you were only 20, I might get where you're coming from. But I don't really see the issue here; people adapt to things. I suppose one is never truly prepared for certain life shifts, but once they happen, you just... deal with them.

Besides, there's no point in looking back. If you felt ready for the responsibility, then a little one isn't such a huge leap. image

Look, I don't want to be a jerk, but between ages 25 and 28, did you guys seriously not consider the possibility that she could still get pregnant?

Okay, so they were careful, but accidents happen.

Maybe it really is just stress right now. Use this time to actually sit down and talk about what happens next, regardless of whether there's a positive test or not.

-----------------------------------------------------
We were being careful, sure, but when things are going great, you don't dwell on the "what ifs." Plus, you have protection, so you feel secure. You start thinking it's impossible for it to happen to *you*. You think you're invincible. And then... well, we messed up.

Look, Steven Patel5, it’s really not the end of the world. You guys are adults. I totally get where you're coming from, though—I ended up pregnant at 30 when we weren't even looking for a baby. It caught me completely off guard. My first thought was just, "Oh crap, what now?" Like, I don't have a steady career yet, I wanted to nail down a real job before even thinking about kids... and the whole cycle repeats. Now? Now I actually regret not doing it sooner.
If your girl is pregnant too, at the end of the day, the choice on whether to go through with it falls on you guys (well, mostly her)... but hey, don't overthink it yet.
What's the deal with work? Is either of you holding down a job? What's the cash situation look like—are you guys renting or what?
And all that other stuff...

Come on, man, it's not as bleak as you're making it out to be...

Fine, I’ll buy the test if it doesn't arrive in time. But there is something on my mind. Is this normal? I know everything is "normal," but I am genuinely concerned. Since the start of last week—right when my fertile window opened and my ovulation was confirmed—I have had this constant, sharp poking sensation in my lower abdomen. On top of that, I feel bloated like a barrel... I can barely even button my jeans. And as of today, my lower back is absolutely killing me.
Usually, I only experience pain right around ovulation, and nothing else until my next period. Aside from some bloating, I typically feel fine. But I don't remember ever having this stinging sensation or this much pressure before. Could this actually signify something?
We have certainly been staying busy in the bedroom this month...😬 so maybe we just got lucky.👍

I'm with them. Wait, you're both old enough and have solid jobs...

One more vital question though: do you actually love each other?

Just realized you both are actually working. Steven Patel5, that’s killer... and since you're both old enough now... I guess it's finally time for some serious talks.

It could mean something, or it might not. It is quite difficult to say for certain. Personally, I experienced such unusual bloating and breast tenderness that I just knew I was pregnant. Wishing you the best of luck... 😘

Maybe it’s just subconscious, since you’re hoping to stay pregnant.
But mostly, I'm pulling for you. 👍

My breasts don't hurt at all, and I've never even had cramps during my period, so if they actually start aching, I'll be one hundred percent certain.
Since I'm feeling a bit bloated, I think I'll just wait a little while before taking a test... 😛

We love each other, but we aren't ready for this—not by a long shot. I even thought about abortion, but honestly, the word itself feels too heavy to even say out loud, let alone suggest to her. I just don't want her to suffer down the road. And god, this bright sunny day? It’s probably the worst day of my life.

This is our very first month of trying! So, I haven't let myself get too obsessed yet, knowing the odds are slim when you're just starting out, but still... Plus, the wedding is only a month away, so I don't have much headspace to dwell on symptoms.
I am genuinely wondering why I've been feeling this sharp, stabbing pain for a week now!

I honestly think you’re overthinking this way too much.
She took a test after being 14 days late—which is pretty much the point where you absolutely have to see a positive result if there's actually a pregnancy involved.
Based on how you described that test, it sounds like it was invalid; I mean, something just wasn't done right.
The control window is supposed to show a clear line—not some random smudge or faint stain.
Just have her take another one first thing tomorrow morning, and then you'll finally have some real answers.
As for that feeling that you aren't ready for a baby right now... well, maybe you never will feel truly "ready" until life just throws it at you.
I truly hope you get exactly what you're looking for!

I truly struggle to understand how any of us can claim to have been fully ready. How is a person supposed to prepare for an experience they cannot possibly envision or comprehend? I certainly wasn't one hundred percent ready myself. But we share a deep love, and welcoming a baby into our lives felt like the right path...

And why on earth do you think you wouldn't be suffering too?
The topic of abortion needs to be chewed over very, very carefully...
Don't jump straight into those kinds of scenarios; wait until you both feel certain about where you stand.
One more thing—if you're already feeling this level of desperation, why not just book an appointment with a private OB-GYN today and go get checked out?

It was our first month of trying as well, and we succeeded immediately 😍

Listen, no amount of protection offers a 100% guarantee—let alone a condom😉—and honestly, by your age, you really should have figured that out by now😘. (BTW: I have friends in my neighborhood who've gone the pill route, not to mention the more experienced women—moms and aunts—who’ve even relied on an IUD)

I don't even understand why you waited 14 days in the first place. That is a massive amount of time. Even if we're talking about a simple infection or something similar, you don't sit around waiting that long. To me, this whole situation just screams how immature everyone involved actually is.

Steven Patel5 listen, we aren't placed on this earth to spend our lives calculating every variable and drafting endless blueprints. Life simply happens. Perhaps this whole situation is merely a reminder that foresight is often an illusion. Don't take this the wrong way, but if my partner reacted to a late period or the possibility of pregnancy after a five-year relationship the way you do, I’d 🙂 him. Besides, who actually achieves a perfect life? People insist they'll find the right career, then buy a house, then get a car, then save up some cash, and only *then* will they consider having children. That isn't how reality functions.

Steven Patel5, let me tell you something crucial: it all comes down to communication. You need honest conversations without anyone being stubborn or acting self-righteous. Talk it out, sleep on it, then talk again. Let everything settle, and then go back to the table. No judging, no forcing your views, no lecturing—just pure empathy and actually listening to what the other person is saying. If you have to sleep on it again before talking? Fine. Do that too.

Just try running through different scenarios in your head...

If there's love there, and if you already envisioned living together, raising kids, and building a life, then this (assuming she's pregnant) is just that same script playing out on fast-forward.

As for those parents you mentioned... honestly, give me a break. This isn't high school! You're an adult man, and you're the one who has to live with the consequences of your own choices, not them. What’s happening between you and your girlfriend stays between you two—and that little baby. Everyone else is just watching from the sidelines.

I know we’re all pretty immature and, frankly, a little slow on the uptake. Maybe that’s why God put this kind of test in our path—to force us to actually think for a second before we go charging blindly into things. Honestly, I’m mostly talking about myself here. I can be incredibly reckless, acting like I’m still eighteen years old when I really should know better... and man, I could definitely use the lesson.
