Goodness, you’re more in demand than a snow shovel in a blizzard!
Seriously though—how much does it usually cost to make enough cake for about 80 people? If anyone knows, let me know.

Check out this cake image

Uploaded with Imgur It’s orange, though, and I skipped that weird decoration on top. Instead, I went with image

A bakery told me I’d need roughly 11 pounds for an 80-person crowd (which is our count)—and that doesn't even include the cake!!

... which means if a pound runs about $33, (and there are cheaper options out there) this is going to be way too expensive 😲😲

Correct me if my math on the quantity is totally off 🤷

That sounds like a tiny amount to me. You really need at least 10-15 ounces per person, so for 80 guests, you’re looking at 8-12 kg.

It's hard to find tasty treats cheaper than $20 a pound, and most things run about $80-$33 per kilo.

help

Does ANYONE actually know where I can track down diamond monograms—or honestly, just any kind of custom monograms—for cakes???

Something along the lines of this:

5 kg is way too little for 80 people. I don't know which bakery gave you that number, but they're screwing you over. You don't want to run out of dessert at a wedding... most bakeries suggest about 10-15 oz per person 🤷 plus the cake separately

5 pounds? My darling and I would polish that off ourselves in two days flat! Okay, fine, I know... 🙈

But listen, based on standard portions, my own gut feeling, and sheer experience, that's way too little!

I’ll second that—honestly, I might even join in. 🙂

Thanks for the tip; I should probably do some more digging. I might have totally misread the situation. 😉

How are we thinking about the layout? For instance, if there are 6 people at the head table, that’s two trays right there—then you've got 74 guests spread out across the rest. Depending on whether you go with round tables (maybe 7 or 8 of them) or space them out more to keep certain groups from mixing, you might end up with more tables. Some people just put one tray down and then top it off with extra sweets later. At our wedding, we overdid it and ended up with two massive trays per table. Ugh. If you just do one tray per table, say 10 trays total (8 guest tables plus the 2 for the couple), then 5000g divided by 10 equals 500g per tray. That's half a kilo per round table. Personally, I'd grab more than that just to be safe—even with all the food and drinks, people rarely actually finish the dessert.

Jollie, everything you guys had looked incredible—totally my vibe😉...and we’re actually going to do something similar. We aren't getting ours from Fancy Cakes though, we're grabbing everything from Hershey's instead... I honestly have no clue how many people are showing up yet since we haven't locked down the final menu for the cakes, pastries, pies, and pralines, but once I have the math figured out, I'll post it 🙂...

So, I went to the bakery yesterday to get some cakes and a big cake ordered. We’ve invited about 160 people—though I already know a few won't show up—but my aunt and I agreed on roughly 45 pounds of sweets. It might be overkill, I guess, but better to have too much than to run out; if there's leftovers, I can just hand them out to guests and call it a day. This should cost me around $1333 total, though I'm still waiting to hear back once they ask about decorations (I really want those sugar diamonds on the cake), so they'll let me know the final price then. If it ends up being way too pricey, I'll just order them myself. I think the math works out okay enough

Hey 🙂

Does anyone have a ballpark idea of what a cake like this would run for at a wedding with about 120 guests?
It's absolutely stunning... I'm obsessed. 😬

I guess you should probably budget for about 12-$5.00 slices per person—that seems to be the standard range for pricing—and then multiply that by your guest count. You might want to add a few extra just in case someone wants seconds. Personally, I don't think all those little decorative ornaments are really worth the extra cost... and adding live flowers will definitely drive the price up further, though you could probably work that out directly with your local florist.

The cake looks absolutely stunning!

We originally counted 180 people, then scaled it back—ended up getting about $130. It’s actually pretty decent.

Hey guys, does anyone know where I can find some decent cake toppers? I’m looking for something relatively simple and romantic, but nothing that breaks the bank... I've been browsing eBay, but everything seems to be way over $33. I was really hoping to spend a bit less on this part of things. Or am I just being unrealistic—is that kind of price actually standard for stuff like this??

I reckon you can find that kind of stuff in any big-city grocery store—not sure where you’re based, but I’m talking about places like San Francisco—and it usually goes for around $15.

Everywhere I've looked here in the States, prices start at $40 and go way up from there... I was crossing my fingers that eBay would have better deals, but nope, it's the same story.

The desserts were from Fancy Cakes in Garden Grove; someone already shared their Facebook link here.
My total dessert cost was $1.25 for 80 guests. That covers all the sweets. I didn't opt for a traditional wedding cake; instead, I had 5 or 6 standard cakes. A slice of cake was roughly $4.75 to $5.25 if I recall correctly. Mousse cups were about $4.00, cake pops were $4.00, pralines were around $1.75 each, and fruit baskets were $2.00... Don't hold me to the exact numbers, but that's a rough guide for you.
I chose about 4 or 5 different flavors of pralines.
I also had 2kg of dry cookies—sort of like biscuits covered in roasted hazelnuts with a strawberry filling. Those 1 kg portion cost $40 and weren't really a hit. People definitely preferred the creamy items.
I ended up with two whole cakes left over (one Black Forest and one Ferrero).
Regarding the cake pops mentioned earlier: they have a sponge base, dipped in Hershey's chocolate or another cream, and topped with hazelnuts or colorful sprinkles. The kids absolutely loved them.
The mousse cups disappeared first. The fruit cakes (I had strawberry and raspberry) were also popular.

I honestly have no idea what the standard budget is for "classic" desserts for 100 guests plus a wedding cake, or if my spending was high or typical. All I know is it was worth every penny. Even now, people tell me, "Oh man, those desserts at your wedding... they were so good!" They looked delicious enough to eat just by looking at them.

As for Fancy Cakes, I fell in love at first sight. Literally. As soon as I saw their treats online, I prayed to God that they tasted as good as they looked. I met the owner for a tasting and immediately thought, "This is it." I didn't look anywhere else. On the wedding day, they delivered everything right on time and set everything up on the dessert table. They even provided all the plates, which was such a relief since I didn't have to worry about a thing.

P.S. Regarding what someone else said about classic wedding desserts all tasting and smelling the same and just cluttering up the tables—I completely agree. Mind you, I've never been a huge fan of those kinds of sweets, so I might not be entirely objective.

Bless your heart! I was actually starting to get worried I’d never find out where you got the treats! 🙂
From the start of planning, I wasn't really feeling the massive dessert spread... I'd much rather pick a few high-quality items that fit the vibe than dump a ton of money into dry cookies that nobody eats.☕
