Karen Johnson49 said:That sounds kind of sketchy to me—if I’m counting 5 pastries per person... how am I even supposed to figure out the total weight if I don't know how many pastries make up a pound?! 😕

Math nerds, I need help over here!!!!

By my own messy calculations, we're looking at something like 28 pounds of sweets, or did I totally screw that up too?!

I seriously hate math 🙂

🤣 if you go with 0.20 lbs per person * 90 people = 18 lbs of cookies
if you go with 0.15 lbs per person * 90 people = 13.5 lbs of cookies

It all depends on whether your guests have a sweet tooth or not 😍 but I guess 15 lbs would be plenty enough

I’ve been scratching my head over the math for these cookies as well 😁

My first dilemma was figuring out how much to actually order per guest—the vendors at the local trade show suggested about 8 or 9 ounces per person, which honestly feels like a massive overkill to me; I mean, people don't usually go through that many sweets at weddings... 🤷 I’m thinking 5 ounces per person should be plenty—for a guest list of roughly 150, that would come out to about 55 pounds, which seems like a perfectly reasonable amount to me

If you’re planning on splitting it, fine by me. Otherwise—just count the tables. Take one kilo for every table you have, then just put half a kilo on two different plates per table. Honestly, even that feels like overkill.
700g per table is plenty.

Thanks for the backup, ladies, I’m heading into battle! 🙂

It’s pretty straightforward—either they match the cafe prices, or they don't get to provide the cake.

...I honestly can't believe how bold they're being. Isn't it enough that they're making a profit off the whole evening? Instead of just being decent humans and gifting us the cake, they actually have the nerve to hike the price up by almost 30%.

We grabbed about one kilo each at the table... there were eight people sitting there total... almost all the plates ended up completely empty...
My bad... 1.20 kg

We picked up a cake from sweet secret (that little shop in a small town in the Midwest).
It’s going to have three different flavors—jaffa, raspberry-white chocolate, and hazelnut-chocolate.

The price is $3.25per slice with whipped cream or $4.00per slice of sponge cake. Honestly, their cakes are incredible—no margarine used, and all the creams are steamed, which makes them absolutely divine. Now, I wouldn't call myself a total cake snob, but I really have zero complaints about this bakery.

The lady running the place was super easy to talk to and we worked out all the details without any issues. She even offered to drop the cake off at the venue around noon if the restaurant didn't have enough fridge space—but our place does, so they'll just deliver it Saturday afternoon on their own stand, which means we won't deal with any extra fees. Plus, you don't even pay until the next day. If anyone's on the fence, my vote goes to sweet secret 😍

They make some seriously good treats. You didn't make a mistake—honestly, you actually got a pretty decent deal.

Just wanted to drop a quick note and say I spotted some seriously cute hair clips at the local Target—they were super cheap, less than $10, I couldn't quite catch the exact price, maybe 27 cents or $9.25!
The selection wasn't huge—just two different styles available at my neighborhood Target—but they look really cool! If they actually matched my hair color, I’d grab them in a heartbeat 🙂

I guess this might be a decent way for brides near a small town in the Midwest to save some cash on a wedding cake.

I have a quick question for you all.
The venue's package includes 10 ounces of cookies and 10 ounces of cake per person.

We went to pay the deposit today, and I decided to pick the owner's brain—you know, asking about his actual experience—to see if that amount is truly enough. Everywhere I look on these forums, people seem to swear by a standard of 15 ounces per person. He, however, argued that when you combine the two, you're looking at 20 ounces of "sweet secret" per guest—plus the wedding cake itself—and he insisted he’s never had a situation where they ran out. He’s quite confident it's plenty. To be fair, everyone seems to rave about this guy; he runs a tight ship and wouldn't dream of letting a single thing fall short, which definitely builds my confidence in his word. 😁

So, I'm wondering—is that 15-ounce figure some sort of industry rule of thumb regardless of extra cakes, or is my current setup of 10 (cookies) plus 10 (cake) actually sufficient?

I don't mind paying extra for more cookies if it's necessary, but I really don't want to overdo it if there isn't a real need. 🙂

Thanks 😁

Honestly, I don't think you need more. The standard is usually between 3.5 and 5 oz per person, and it's pretty rare for people to actually finish all the desserts at a wedding.

That’s pretty much where my head is at too—though, granted, I’m hardly an expert since I’ve never been much of a sweets person myself, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.😁

Thanks, 🙂

I'm curious—do you all plan on giving your guests little treats to take home at the end of the night? I'm thinking something small, maybe a little box with about 4 to 8 ounces of cookies.
Edit: For those of you who have already hosted weddings, did you do this? And if so, how much did you go with?

We didn't bother sharing any cake. It wasn't worth the hassle, and frankly, I didn't hear a single soul complaining about it.
Generally speaking, I rarely leave a wedding with leftovers.

We aren't planning on doing any of that either—honestly, I can’t even remember the last time we attended a wedding where people were actually handing out gifts like that. At most, maybe we'll pass whatever leftovers we have to some close family the following day.

We aren't going to be sharing any cookies (though I wouldn't be shocked if my mom secretly organized a whole bake sale behind my back just because she can't let this go 😁)

The dinner at the restaurant is already covered in our set menu price, so we'll just grab something light to snack on when we get back home 🙂

How many cookies should I pack into those little favor boxes for the guests?
And roughly how much food do we actually need to have on hand to feed everyone at a get-together?

The standard recommendation we received was about 4 to 6 ounces per person, with roughly 9 ounces going into each favor box. Since box sizes vary, just choose based on the specific containers you pick.😉
