The thing is—and this is where it gets a bit tricky—the pastry chef only does trays in either 1kg or 750g increments, so I really have to pick one of those two options. 🙂 Honestly, I think the smaller one should be perfectly fine. Thanks again, everyone!

Better to let it rot than see it vanish entirely.😁

I agree 😁 Plus, if I showed up to work on Monday with a mountain of cookies, my coworkers would absolutely kill me 😁

I’m debating whether to go with 10 or 15 ounces of cake per person—not counting the wedding cake, obviously. Personally, I think that’s plenty. I really don't want to be stuck lugging leftovers around the next day... Besides, we've got a cold buffet set up right outside the restaurant before dinner, featuring mini pastries, those little cream cups, strudels, and the like.

That’s probably all you’ll actually end up with... Daniel Smith8 said: They told me 3 to 5 ounces per person was plenty for a restaurant setting. We ended up getting a pound for every table of eight, and we still had leftovers.
I wouldn't go over about 3 ounces if I were you.

Yeah, I figured that would be plenty—about 3.5 ounces per person.

Hey everyone—quick question for those who’ve dealt with this before. If I already have a credit on my account for some cake I ordered, but now I’m actually looking to order something totally different, is that doable? Like, can I just apply that balance toward a new order, or does it not really matter? Also, any chance I could ask them to swap out the cake entirely for a batch of cookies or something similar instead?

It really all comes down to where you’re holding the thing. I’d say track down whoever is running the catering and just have a straight talk with them. You definitely want to ask if there’s a "cakeage" fee—you know, if bringing your own dessert bumps up the bill—and also see if they're open to ordering something specific that isn't already on their standard menu.

Anyone here actually tried the cakes from Levain Bakery or Sugarman? 🙂

We finally started our dessert hunt, so here are my first impressions:
We hit up M&M's in Washington, D.C. today. The treats are $40 pounds and mostly good (some aren't really my thing, but taste is subjective). We skipped the cakes since I've had them before and know they're solid. He mentioned the cake is $4.75 per slice if you stick to simple whipped cream and maybe some flowers, but for more complex decorations, the price could go up by $1.25 per slice. I assume this $4.75 is just a basic parfait cake, and it might cost a few dollars more for fancier versions. The guy there said 100g per person is plenty.

Overall, it seems okay. But we're heading to Zemljič bakery in Bregana this weekend because they make incredible cakes 🙂 I just have no idea how they actually taste.

We already locked in the cakes and dessert spread from Lida (doing Grand Marnier style now)... our only issue is figuring out the math on quantity. The pastry chef told us those 10-15 oz slices usually work out to about 3 or 4 per person. Honestly, their stuff is killer—we’ll probably end up inhaling at least 5 pieces ourselves if we're being real. So now we're stuck staring at the numbers, totally lost on how much to order. Lida doesn't just do that basic wedding filler either; they have these specialty treats that aren't like the usual creamy or fruit basket junk you see everywhere. They're legit.
Now we're low-key panicking because we aren't sure if 65 lbs is going to cut it for 160 people.😢

What’s the actual protocol for scheduling a tasting? Do they plate everything themselves and deliver it straight to the venue? I’m asking because I had Lida pastries at a wedding once and they were phenomenal, so I’m thinking about booking them for my own wedding... My gut says 3-5 ounces per person should be plenty, especially since there's so much other food, so people don't overindulge. Some take less, some take more, but on average, it balances out. I’m not looking to pack leftovers to go; I just want enough for the reception itself.

The thing is, you really have to go by the average. You might personally grab 5, but then there's someone who won't touch sweets at all, or someone who just takes one because they need a little something sweet after dinner. Some will take two, some three... honestly, people almost always overdo it with dessert orders. Plus, after 3, 4, or 5 courses of food, nobody can actually finish a full standard serving.

I just shot an email to the address on their site and the owner hit me back with a quote. We swung by that same day and hammered out all the details. We'd actually tried their pastries at a local fair, so we didn't need a tasting for those, but the cake situation was the worst part. We asked if we could just get a tiny sample to try, but the lady brought out four full slices and charged us for the whole thing (plus the coffee we ordered while waiting around for 40 minutes). Felt pretty shady to me... but honestly, their sweets are so good we couldn't say no. Our package includes delivery and plates, though. s

Hello, I'm looking for some dessert and cake recommendations in Miami. I'm planning on having a dessert table with various sweets plus a wedding cake for the newlyweds. For a group of 50 people, how much should I budget?

That’s just bad business. In my opinion, if you’ve already committed to buying their cakes and pastries, a tasting should be on the house... otherwise, what's the point? You might as well just order based on how they look. :/

Do they offer any kind of fair or seasonal discounts? There's a wedding expo happening at Madison Square Garden this weekend...

We sourced everything from Kansas City. I honestly can't decide which cake was better—it's a toss-up—and the same goes for the pastries too.

I need some advice before I lose my mind 😵
The wedding is on June 27th—we have almost everything sorted, but I am struggling with a massive decision regarding the desserts.
It’s being held in Savannah, and my mother-in-law is handling all the cookies for the tables since she does this professionally 😉
Now... since the cake selection here in Kansas City isn't great, I’ve been planning to order the wedding cake from Washington, D.C.
However... given how everything has come together—the dress, the suit, and the whole fairy-tale vibe at our outdoor venue—I've suddenly become obsessed with the idea of having a dessert station 🤦😵Just something off to the side. I think it would fit the theme perfectly without feeling overdone... maybe some lanterns, little candles, colorful candies, muffins, and mini mousse cups (okay, maybe I'm overthinking it 🤦).
Does anyone know a bakery in Washington, D.C. that does high-quality catering and beautiful displays?
Mack was my top choice, but they charge per piece, so it might be too much for my budget.
Amelia? Slatka priča?

On my wedding tasting days (well, my fiancé tasted them because I'm on a diet 🎉), I tried treats from King Bakery in Napa. They seemed like a solid option since they aren't too far from Kansas City, but I haven't actually seen their stuff at a wedding before. 🍿

The problem is, I am incredibly picky about sweets. I don't want to make a mistake, even though the dessert station is just an extra touch. I'm not even sure how much I should order since we already have the cookies...
A bride gone wild. 🤔🤔

I need to settle this quickly and would truly appreciate your expertise.
