Looks like the thread’s been dead for a while, but I figured I’d jump back in and say something. 🙂 For our wedding cakes and desserts, we ended up going with the sweets from Lucy over in Palm Springs. Honestly, their pastries and cakes are just on another level—always super rich and packed with flavor. But more importantly for me, I know for a fact they don't mess around with any of those cheap powders or artificial flavors in their stuff!

Does anyone know how the logistics work when ordering pastries from out of town? Specifically, what kind of delivery fees are we talking about? For instance, if you're hosting a wedding in Kansas City, but the cakes and desserts are coming in from Chicago?

Everyone I know—family, friends, the whole crew—gets their stuff from Cashner
It all kicked off about ten years ago at my brother's wedding,
and then the cycle started: people would be like, "Where did you get these treats? They're killer!" and then they'd start swapping numbers.
Then, just two months ago, I hear someone else in my circle is back at it again, using them for some big event. 😁

So, I’ve gotta drop some serious recommendations for this Candy Shop in Miami. If you’re looking for those unique little treats that basically just melt the second they hit your tongue—this is it. The owner actually studied her pastry craft in Paris and London, so she seriously knows her stuff. We used to run a little "Sweet Corner" setup featuring her desserts, and honestly, it felt like something out of a fairytale. People were absolutely obsessed 😉

Has anyone ever ordered desserts from Lydia for a wedding? At the trade show, they quoted us $32/kg, but honestly, they look incredible... not like those basic, cookie-cutter wedding sweets you always see at receptions. Everything is creamy, fruity, chocolatey...
So, here’s my dilemma: I’m worried guests might go overboard and eat way more than I planned, leaving me short at the end. We calculated roughly 30 kg for 180 guests... is that enough? Or am I dreaming?

I attended a wedding catered by Lydia once and was blown away by their desserts!!! I just saw them again at the West Gate expo and requested a quote for cakes and pastries. I'm seriously considering them, though I'm still weighing the delivery costs since the wedding is in Kansas City. But honestly, the sweets are top-tier. Truly delicious.🙂
My math is based on about 10 ounces per person, which means 15 kg for 150 guests. I'm keeping it lean because I have no intention of handing out leftovers or carrying boxes home the next day. Plus, we'll have catering right outside the venue serving little bite-sized treats before people even walk in...

I actually went with full catering for my wedding, including all the desserts and the cake from Lydia, and I honestly can't recommend them enough 🙂

I need to share my thoughts on wedding cakes for a moment... 😁

So, I went to that wedding expo at the Garden, and one of the vendors there was Andric, who I know people have been raving about on here.
I have to say, I was actually a bit surprised because despite all the praise, my friend and I didn't find the cakes particularly impressive, either in how they looked or how they tasted. 😳

Our vote goes to Simic.... so if anyone else has tried them, I'd love to hear your thoughts. 😁

By the way, the price for both is the same... $27/kg. 🙂

Mus Bakery is still the most affordable option, though I haven't had a chance to try them yet. 🙂

We grabbed some treats from Kvatric catering since we were hosting a wedding at their venue (C6 Restaurant)—and honestly, I ended up bringing some into the office later too! I picked up about 6 pounds to treat my 18 coworkers, and let me tell you—they vanished instantly. Every single one was gone. People were actually telling me they hadn't tasted anything this good in ages! Their price is $33 per pound.

Hey ladies, has anyone here actually tried this specific candy shop before?
My sister does business with both Glembay and Cashner, so I’m trying to get the scoop on Glembay. As for Cashner, I already know the deal—we aren't exactly thrilled with them. During one of their open house events for a restaurant, some guy from their team—I honestly can't remember his name or even who he was specifically—was incredibly rude to us. He kept bringing up certain things that just felt off, and we really didn't appreciate how they handled us.
Thanks 🙂

Man, oh man, those prices are just wild, right? Like, seriously, it feels way too expensive for what it is. I mean, have you guys even bothered to look around elsewhere? Maybe if you scouted some other spots, you could actually find something more reasonable, even if you had to factor in the delivery costs or whatever. It makes me wonder, like, what do standard cakes even go for in Chicago? Just your basic, classic ones? Down where I am, we can get pastries for about $20/lb, and the classic cakes usually run around $40/lb (at least at the place I used for my last big order)

True, it's cheaper in other areas. Where I live (Des Moines), pastries are only 50-$20/lb.

Hey, does anyone have any recent info on the bakery in Forest Hills? My aunt mentioned their pastries are amazing. I saw a post here saying back in 2010 the price was $22 per pound 😁. I’m assuming prices have gone up since then, so if anyone has stopped by lately, do you know what they're charging now?

I could really use some advice here! Does about 5 ounces of dessert per person sound like enough for a wedding reception?
The pastry chef I'm looking at suggests doing either 1.5 or 2 pounds for every 6 guests—now I'm totally stuck trying to decide which way to go.

How many pieces would that be per person?
Do you offer cakes along with the pastries?

They told me 10 to 15 ounces per person was plenty for a restaurant setting. We ended up putting a full pound on every table of eight, and honestly? It was overkill.

If you ask me, we’re talking maybe 40 pounds of cookies... just do the math on how many sweets you, your fiancé, your parents, and everyone else end up polishing off at an American wedding. The caterers are definitely overestimating here.

To be totally honest—I honestly have no clue how much dessert that actually amounts to. I can't really wrap my head around the math! And no, I don't have any cakes planned—just the one wedding cake from back in the day.🤷

That sounds like the perfect amount—about 26 ounces for a group of six. I think I'll stick to that plan. I don't really intend on portioning it out individually, so hopefully, that should be more than enough for everyone to feel satisfied.

Thanks 🙂

If she said it was too much and you'd rather not split it, maybe just aim for about 750 grams for 8 people instead.
