Small Town, USA is part of that area, specifically a neighborhood within a Suburban City, USA. 😉

Hello, I'm looking for some recent feedback regarding the Relax bakery in Annapolis. If anyone has ordered pastries or a wedding cake from them lately, I’d appreciate it if you could share your thoughts.

I don’t have much experience with them in general—especially when it comes to their wedding cakes—but I did happen to have one of their cakes at a recent birthday party, so perhaps this will be helpful to you.
As far as the service goes, everyone who ordered went home happy and the cake looked absolutely stunning, though it was just a bit too sweet for my taste—honestly, there wasn't much left over at the end of the night.
I can't say for sure if that was just a fluke or if it came down to the specific flavor choice, but it's something to keep in mind.

I am looking for recommendations for a bakery in the Annapolis or Savannah areas, or somewhere nearby, that is capable of making cakes like these.

Hello,

I am looking for some recommendations for wedding cakes priced under $33/lb in the Iowa or Savannah areas. Feel free to send me a private message. Thanks so much in advance!

I reached out to Magnolia to get a quote for a cake for about 400 people.
Kazo they wanted $3,000.
That’s just excessive, honestly. It's way too much.

Anyone tried anything from Betty Crocker lately? Looking for some recent feedback on their stuff 🙂

There’s this tiny, low-key little bakery we used for our wedding—and honestly, we've brought their cakes to a few other parties since then too. It’s called Merc (they're based over in Washington, D.C.) and man, their treats are incredible!! They go for $30/kg, which I totally think is worth it for the quality you get. Seriously, highly recommend!

Anyone here ever tried the treats from Sweet Bite in Columbus or those Šatović Cakes out near the Cross? Looking for some honest feedback if anyone's actually had them. 🙂

How many pounds of dessert should we plan on for the reception? Just a heads-up, we aren't doing any pre-wedding gatherings at the couple's place—it's really just to make sure there’s enough for the relatives flying in from out of town (about 30 people).

It really all boils down to how long the relatives visiting from out of town are sticking around, you know? Like, will they actually have a full meal waiting for them, or is it just going to be a bunch of sweets and nothing else? Standard catering logic usually says about a quarter pound per person, or maybe a couple of pounds if you're feeding a group of eight, but honestly, does that even cut it? It feels way too low to me, especially since my family has this endless appetite for sugar. If I were prepping for a crowd of 30 people, I’d definitely grab at least ten pounds of dessert just to be safe.

My experience—if you can even call it that—has been quite something. It’s funny how things turn out, isn't it? You go into a situation thinking you know exactly what to expect, only to find yourself staring at a completely different reality once the dust settles. I've spent a lot of time reflecting on this lately—thinking about the nuances, the little details that everyone seems to overlook, and how those small shifts end up changing the entire landscape. It wasn't exactly what I had mapped out in my head, but then again, life rarely follows a blueprint, does it? There were moments of genuine uncertainty—those times where you just have to pause, take a breath, and wonder if you're even on the right track—but looking back now, everything feels like it's starting to click into place. It’s been a process, certainly, and perhaps a bit more complicated than I initially anticipated, but I suppose that's just how these things go. 👎

I can’t really comment on the actual quality of her cakes or pastries because, well, I never actually got to taste them. Here’s how the whole saga unfolded: I spotted her ad here—the treats looked incredible—so I gave her a call back on November 16th. She went over all the details with me, though she was speaking on speakerphone amidst a ton of background noise—apparently, she was swamped with orders—but she was quite polite and gave me plenty of information. Since she’s based out in Sioux Falls and I’m over here in Washington, D.C., we worked out a little plan: her husband happens to pass by San Jose every so often, so he was going to drop off some sample cookies for my fiancé to pick up. Then, just two days before the hand-off, she calls me to say her husband suddenly has to head out of the country, so the whole cookie plan is off. When I asked if she might be heading toward Washington, D.C., anytime soon, she told me not for a while—not until December 23rd. Now, this was around November 20th, so I thought to myself, *is a month-long wait really worth it?* I wanted to get these sweets sorted sooner rather than later, but her menu looked so good that I figured, why not? I’ll wait. I was genuinely planning on ordering a full spread—cookies, a dessert table, and a cake. I checked in with her again in the meantime, and everything seemed fine; the date was still set for December 23rd. We were supposed to touch base two days prior, and she tells me she has three deliveries scheduled in Washington, D.C.—one is near Napa Valley—so I told her, "Great, I’ll just meet you there to grab those samples." She said that worked, she’d have everything ready, and that she should be there around noon—though, since she’d be baking that morning, she wasn't exactly sure if she’d arrive at 10:00 or maybe closer to 2:00. Well, I woke up at 9:00 that morning and spent the entire time glued to my phone, waiting for her to call. Hours go by... nothing. By 12:30, I was practically losing my mind from the constant waiting, so I decided to call her myself. I dial her number, and it's turned off. I try her second number—since she’d given me two—and still nothing. I tried calling several times that day, but she wouldn't pick up once. She didn't even have the decency to call me the next day to apologize or explain why she went MIA and completely blew off our arrangement. Honestly, I could never do business with someone who clearly has zero respect for commitments or other people's time.

As for Sweet Bites, honestly, I’ve heard nothing but horror stories. People were saying the cookies were bone-dry and just loaded with margarine—to the point where at one wedding, nobody even touched the cake or the sweets because they were so subpar. I even heard a rumor that they messed up an order for one couple entirely.

What’s the current going rate for wedding cakes? Is $6.75 asking way too much?

I’ve been seeing around $12-$$5.00 per slice. Plus another $100-$$67 for decorations, though not everyone charges that extra fee.

Personally, I think $6.75 per slice is steep.

I agree, $6.75 feels steep, but the cake itself is top-tier.
I called the venue since their cake is included in our package, and they told me they’d knock $1 off my total if I don't use their caterer. That would bring the difference to just $2 per slice, which actually adds up when you're dealing with a large crowd. Hmm, maybe I'm overthinking this one.

Honestly, if the venue provides a cake you actually like, there's really no need to spend extra money elsewhere.

Let's be real—cake is usually the thing people eat the least at weddings. It feels like throwing money away.

But, if the venue's cake is mediocre, then that's a whole different story.

We haven't actually tasted it yet. We won't get a chance until wedding season kicks off around late April.
I'm just trying to get my head around the budget now so I know if I need to set aside extra cash for a backup cake or not. hahaha

Has anyone here had any recent experiences with wedding cakes from Mark Twain or Tom & Jerry (over in the Los Angeles area)? I’m looking for some honest feedback regarding the flavor profiles, their delivery reliability, and whether they actually stick to what was originally agreed upon.

Has anyone here had any actual experience dealing with Golek—formerly known as Biogen under Sage management? Specifically regarding their operations out of Indianapolis?
