Aaron Bennett2 said:What kind of wedding cake should I go with? Mine needs to be three tiers—any recommendations for the Miami area or nearby?

Also, I’d really love to avoid using fondant as a coating. Is that even doable? Has anyone here actually pulled off a combination like that?

you can, you totally can 🙂
we went with a "naked cake" style, just decorated with a few little flowers, and honestly, it was absolutely stunning 😉

something along these lines 😉

Ladies, does anyone happen to know how much they're charging for macarons over at Magnolia?

Hey ladies, 🙂

Has anyone here tried the Grand Marnier cakes or pastries?
I'd also love any recommendations for a good bakery that offers delivery in Washington, D.C. 😁

I actually tried their dessert spread during an open house at a small castle—it was incredible. They’re hosting another open house there this weekend, so if you're interested, definitely go check it out. It's free to sample, haha. If we're talking about the Grand Marnier one (in that suburban neighborhood in Washington, D.C.).

Yeah, yeah, that's who I was talking about! 🙂
I had some of their treats at the WG fair, but I wanted to see if anyone here has actually hired them before. Basically, does everything go smoothly with the contracts and the actual delivery on the big day? 😁

They partner up with Muring catering to handle the dessert tables and cakes. Honestly, I haven't heard a single horror story about them messing up yet. Beyond that, I don't know much more.

I really hate being the person who leaves bad reviews because, look, taste is subjective, right? If I’m not feeling something, it doesn't mean someone else won't love it. But man... we’re currently in the middle of planning our wedding for next year, and we started hunting for a bakery to handle all the desserts and the cake. After wading through a massive sea of options, we landed on Lucian from San Francisco because their prices seemed way more reasonable compared to the other places we reached out to. So, naturally, we ordered a sample platter to test the waters. And oh my god—what an absolute DISASTER!!! I bake a ton myself (mostly just for the family, though), so I actually have a decent idea of what quality looks like. Long story short: the pastries were bone-dry, like they had been sitting out for days. The layers were literally peeling away from the cream. The crusts for the Canadian cream cake and the white pie were overbaked to death—just dark brown mush. Honestly, the whole spread looked like it was sliced with someone's left foot. Even the selection for the wedding dessert mix felt off, though I guess that's just my personal preference. All I can say is that these were hands down some of the worst sweets I’ve ever tasted in my life; you could honestly find better stuff in a gas station convenience store. And the fact that this was just the *sample* set? Unbelievable. 🤔Sure, anyone can mess up a single pastry now and then, but when ten different types of treats are all terrible, you're looking at a pattern, not a fluke.

So yeah, consider this a little heads-up for anyone out there who’s a bit picky about their desserts and doesn't want to waste money just to save a few bucks. No offense intended to anyone 😁

Has anyone ever ordered treats from Little Prince Bakery in San Diego? My mother placed an order there recently, and since I’ve never even heard of them, I can't help but feel a bit anxious. These baked goods aren't exactly meant to sit on a shelf forever, are they? To make matters worse, I don't even know exactly what she picked out. Does anyone know if this pastry shop uses real butter? I simply cannot abide anything made with margarine.

Hi ladies,
Please forgive me for jumping in like this, but I've been scrolling through the forums looking for some guidance on dessert quantities. I've seen so many different opinions that I'm feeling a bit lost—how many cookies should I realistically order for 260 guests? We won't be serving portions, and we also need some extra small treats to take home the next day.
Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? Any advice would be wonderful!
Thanks so much 😉

Has anyone here actually tried the treats from Starbucks in Springfield or maybe those sweets from Jim Šimić's Family shop? We just sampled both of their cakes, and honestly... we liked the flavor of the one from Family a bit more. I'm curious though, does anyone know what they charge per pound for pastries or by the slice for whole cakes? Both of them had this North Wind flavor profile... really tasty. Also, has anyone ever ordered any Betty Crocker baked goods out in Suburban Chicago? I heard someone say they go for $17/lb, which sounds way too cheap for a place in Washington, D.C.... almost feels suspicious at that price point.

I ordered a cake from Emma’s Bakery in Smalltown, USA, and honestly, it was a total disaster. When we went in to discuss the order and did a tasting, everything seemed perfect—plenty of cream, soft sponge, and fresh fruit. But when we actually picked up the cake? It was a completely different story. There was almost no cream at all, the fruit was barely there, and the sponge felt like it had been sitting out for two days; the whole thing was incredibly dry and just tasted bad. It was such a letdown because our wedding venue had amazing food, so we made the decision to source the cake exclusively from Emma’s, and it ended up being the absolute worst part of the entire day. I couldn't even finish a single slice, and my close family members all agreed the cake was pathetic—which isn't surprising, considering more than half of it was left untouched. To top it off, it was pretty expensive. So, ladies, please be careful where you order your cakes and sweets. Double and triple-check everything so you don't end up in the same boat as us. What disappointed me even more was the terrible customer service. We were so upset with the quality that we went back after the wedding to file a complaint, but they refused to admit anything was wrong, wouldn't offer a refund, and were incredibly arrogant about it, basically dismissing our claim entirely. Later, I heard from an acquaintance that plenty of other people have complained about them before, and he actually had a similar experience when he ordered a birthday cake for his daughter there. Bottom line: one very bad experience.

We picked up the pastries and the cake from Janet Yellen. While the presentation was lovely and they tasted fine, she went ahead and added several varieties I didn't actually ask for. Adding extras without checking first just feels unprofessional.
As for the cake, it was nothing but frosting. I ordered two specific flavors—pear cheesecake and chocolate—but both were basically just pure whipped cream.
I had similar issues with almost everything I booked for the wedding. I'd agree on flowers and pricing based on a photo I provided a month in advance, only to have the florist tell me three days before the big day that she "misunderstood" the picture. Suddenly, all the daisies were much more expensive than what we originally settled on.
It felt like everyone was just trying to rip me off. Honestly, the whole experience left me pretty shaken.🙄🤣

Hey guys, getting married soon and the bakery I wanted my wedding cake from is already booked for another wedding that day. They can make the cake, but they won't deliver it. Anyone know a pro who specializes in transporting cakes? Thanks 🙂

We went with Šimić. We stopped by on a Saturday while they were prepping for a wedding, and honestly, we were pretty impressed. All their pastries and three different cake types are really good. As for the price, it's $27/lb, and slices are 12,$4.50, but I suppose you can probably negotiate everything with them.

Hey there,

Does anyone know a bakery in San Francisco that does wedding cupcakes? We’re planning a tiny little get-together—maybe 25 people tops—and we were thinking of doing a three-tier cupcake tower with a small cake sitting right on top for 😉

Something looking like this would be perfect. 😁

Here is my experience with Grand Marnier 🙂

When you're dealing with a wedding, the actual flavor of the cake becomes a secondary thought compared to the stress of having a cake delivered that looks nothing like what you ordered, especially when the shop just shrugs and says "no problem" during the initial booking. When you politely ask (well after you've already paid the bill) why the cake is so wildly different from the design, you get an answer like: "it's basically exactly like the picture, except for the roses, and maybe the color, and maybe the shimmer around the roses." 😁 Their professionalism and customer service are honestly bottom-tier. If you're expecting a cake that matches the perfect photos on their website, prepare to be disappointed, because it seems like they just ship out whatever is convenient for them most of the time. All in all, it was a huge letdown, both in terms of the wedding cake itself and how they handled being told something was wrong.

Well, they really dropped the ball on that cake. 😲
I feel terrible that this happened—it’s such a shame, really. 😢

Seriously though, how many pounds of cookies do I actually need if I'm feeding like 160-180 people?
