I had actually entertained the idea of having two chocolate fountains set up alongside the dessert spread myself... though I am completely at a loss as to where one might even find such a thing here in the US, and I know for a fact that renting equipment in places like NYC can be incredibly pricey, so 👎
do you happen to know if there is anywhere to find them at a reasonable rate?

Regarding the cake, my plan was to head over to Whole Foods about six months in advance to look at some options and then perhaps order it from somewhere else locally... maybe three or four months out at the latest. I assume that should provide plenty of lead time, shouldn't it?

Oh, and on another note, has anyone ever heard of ice cream cakes? It sounds like such a fun concept to me, especially since we'll be in the middle of summer... my only concern is whether it can actually hold up without melting away entirely. Hopefully, it won't😬

Look, there are some catering companies here in the States that do this, but they won't just rent you the gear—you have to sign up for their full service package if you want in! We ended up grabbing everything we needed over in Germany once 😁 😍 though. Hit up the PM

Donna Booth7 said:Hey... does anyone know if you can just walk into a bakery with a photo and a recipe and ask them to make it? I have exactly what I want, but I’m too embarrassed to even ask. Who knows... maybe they'll just be too lazy to deal with the pricing or whatever... though honestly, I think it's a win-win. I get the cake of my dreams and they get more money and a new item for their portfolio

Go taste a sweet secret at Magnolia Bakery.

I bet they'll make it for you. Stephanie has tons of catalogs to look through, and if you show her a photo of what you want, she'll just recreate it for you. That's exactly how I did it... plus you get to pick all your own flavors and everything...

northernhawk87 has ice cream cake. Honestly, they are delicious—and don't worry, they hold up quite well. A few years back, one of my cousins was getting married, and she had this massive ice cream cake smothered in whipped cream. At midnight, they dimmed all the lights, leaving nothing but the glow of the candles, and then the servers brought it out and... they set it on fire!!! Man, what a spectacle! 🤣 Everyone else just stood there, stunned. Even that little flame didn't stand a chance against the cake, so I'm sure everything else will be just fine...👍

As for my own cake... thanks 🙂. I’ll probably just leave the negotiations to the agency... I imagine there's someone over in Cleveland who can handle the whole thing.

restlessmoose18😘, now you're just telling me you ordered this cake somewhere in Washington, D.C. 😍

But if not, ladies, does anyone know which local bakery makes these kinds of cakes????

I honestly have no clue where she placed the order—I just know it was supposed to ship from somewhere quite a distance away, so there’s a chance it might even be coming from Washington, D.C... 😉
Maybe try asking around a bit... I'm sure someone would be willing to handle it, even if they haven't stepped up to do something like that before. 🙂

Alright, I shall certainly make some inquiries once I begin my search. However, if we ultimately settle on the idea of an ice cream cake, I simply cannot abide choosing a place where they haven't mastered the craft before... I feel quite strongly that if we go that route, they truly need to know what they are doing, otherwise the whole thing will just end up as a melted mess 🙂

Man, I would give anything to be able to order some of those authentic Midwest pastries right now, but trying to ship them across the country sounds like a total nightmare...
😢.

omg sorry, I totally blanked—where are you even getting married? Like, how far is the drive for the sweets?
because for our wedding, the catering arrived from Indianapolis just the day before🙂

I have personally attended several weddings where pastries from the Midwest were delivered all the way to Washington, D.C. by bus, so I can assure you that such a feat is certainly within the realm of possibility for you...

My brother actually dealt with the same issue a few years back—it wasn't quite from the Midwest, but it was still pretty far out, coming from somewhere near Washington, D.C.—whereas here I am in Small Town, USA... they delivered our items right to the house, and then we just ended up asking friends to drive them the rest of the way to us.

A colleague of mine actually suggested just hauling them all the way there by bus. Most of the group is up in Appalachia right now, but since I'm based out of Unknown Location, I’d be more than happy to order them myself... though I honestly have my doubts about what kind of shape they'll be in after a long bus ride. I'm feeling pretty skeptical about that one.

🙂Jesse Ross11, which place in Unknown Location were you ordering from when you visited?

Emma’s bakery down by the Small River is such a gem! The pastries are incredible—seriously delicious. The service is just as good, and the prices are totally reasonable. Highly recommend!

copperraven39, I assure you, nothing has happened to the sky; everything is perfectly fine. They will package those cookies for you with such meticulous care that there won't be a single issue to worry about... perhaps you should just ask at the local bakery, as I am certain they have dealt with similar situations before.

Don't be so skeptical! As long as they pack them well, you'll be fine. The lady we used packed everything in those little clear plastic containers—about 10 ounces each—so we could just hand them out immediately.
Ugh, I feel bad saying I have no clue who made the cookies because my mother-in-law handled the whole thing (she's from Unknown Location), so let me ask her and get back to you! 😉

Oh, for sure, they definitely do. I'll figure out a way to handle it 🙂 ...
