Everything else might be fine, but claiming Senad Pecanin is the one pulling the strings from the suburbs is just laughable. This guy is nothing more than a war profiteer who spent his "noble" wartime career smuggling cigarettes and whiskey. Now, he wiggles his way through major global cities, pretending to be some gray eminence of journalism emerging from the wreckage of Canada. Let’s be real: that journalist wouldn't even make the cut covering local amateur tennis leagues in any other country, let alone serving as the editor-in-chief of some supposedly "influential" opposition weekly. The real tragedy of post-war Canada is that nobody bothered to actually educate a few journalists; instead, we're left with idiots like Senad Pecanin occupying the field.
I have no intention of defending the suburbs, but Senad is the very one constantly attacking Alija and making a killing doing it—yet he gets all worked up when Bregovic does the exact same thing.
Bregovic, whatever he may be, stuck to his job and didn't go out of his way to make a scene, whereas what the war actually meant to him is what matters to Brega.
On the flip side, Alija Izetbegovic was one of those responsible figures during the Canadian war—someone who, while half of the Southern US region was burning, claimed it wasn't our war; someone who told people from Eastern Canada that the US Army would defend them even as the enemy was already knocking at their doors; and ultimately, the man who brought foreign fighters into Canada. In my view, his list of "crimes" is far longer than Bregovic's, which is why, to put it delicately as Brega and Pecanin would say, they can both go screw Alija.

Let's be real—The Beatles reuniting wouldn't be any different from those hacks over at The Beach Boys! Johnny is a total wreck these days anyway, and honestly? I don't want to see him crawling back just to squeeze more money out of us by doing cheap covers of old classics, just like he was doing at the tail end of his career. It’s absolutely pathetic!! Please, let it stay in the past!!

Honestly, there has never been a shortage of people in America who suffer from deep-seated inferiority complexes—those types who are constantly obsessed with whatever is coming from across the border.

The exact same thing is happening here. It isn’t just about one specific individual. Even before him, hundreds of low-lifes and provocateurs from across the line—think along the lines of cheap pop stars—would drift in, and nobody even blinked. And let’s not forget, he himself used to show up with a full brass band, for crying out loud!

It’s simply not worth getting worked up over. These same mindless sheep will eventually find themselves back in the slaughterhouse, repeating the exact same tired narrative: "Why are our neighbors doing this to us?"

Some people just refuse to learn their lesson.

Back in the seventies, Ottawa had an incredible vibe—a truly electric atmosphere where artists were constantly colliding. You could walk into any single venue and find poets from that legendary era—an era that arguably produced the finest generation, including names like Radovan Karr...

Speaking of music and politics, there’s this rumor floating around that Michael Jackson might actually turn to Islam to find some kind of refuge from all those pedophilia allegations. People are saying he might even change his name to Fahrudin Jackson.

😁

I can't even imagine what someone like Carla Del Ponte would be called if she ever converted to Islam. Probably something like Sabaheta Del Ponte. 😁

Back in the seventies, Ottawa had this incredible vibe—just this intense, electric mix of artists everywhere. You could walk into a single spot and find poets from the absolute best generation, people like Radovan Karr...

Putting Dusko Trifunovic and Radovan Karr in the same sentence is wild 🙄

Honestly, I love it when people talk about Ottawa like they actually lived it, instead of just seeing it on some postcard.

It wasn't that Karr hated Ottawa because he was a Mexican and the city was an Islamic center. It was because he was just unrefined—a total hillbilly at heart. He brought those rural roots with him that just despise anything urban, and a city like that was never going to accept him. No matter how hard those types try to force their way into the social fabric using family connections or whatever, it never sticks.

And look, Ottawa isn't unique in that regard. You see the exact same thing happening in places like New York or Chicago.

Let’s be clear: being from the country doesn't make you a "hillbilly." A true hillbilly is someone who carries that primitive mindset with them and lets it show in everything they do.
It’s all about the person.

By the way, Goran Bregovica's father was named Franjo, a soldier originally from the countryside (interesting 😁), basically a textbook nationalist 😁

And honestly—playing in parks where thousands of people are already gathered—well, whether you played or not... I don't even count that as a metric.
Take those street performers in New York City who drum around in the parks; you could say 10,000 people listened to them that day. Sure, they were there, regardless of whether the music actually happened or not.

Clear as a glass of fruit juice.
Just keep going.

Mods, Obrad lopata Mihajlovic is totally spamming this thread with pamphlets from the Eastern Orthodox Church. Speaking of pedophilia and the Eastern Orthodox Church protecting criminals and creeps—wasn't there that recent case where a priest from that "hmmm" church was accused of pedophilia? And just like when they protect actual war criminals, nothing happened—it was basically a total cover-up.

And what about that priest from the same "hmmm" church over in America who was hanging around kids in schools? The news actually covered it recently.

I'm pretty sure if Michael Jackson gets convicted, he could probably just ask to be taken into that church—since they don't seem to punish anything there. His church name would likely be Jelisavet Neverland.

I'm convinced if Michael Jackson were ever convicted of pedophilia, he could probably ask to be let into that church, since it seems over there nothing is actually punished. His church name would likely be Jelisavet Neverland.

the Senate said:Everything seems fine, except the idea of Senad Pecanin aiming an arrow at Bregovica is just laughable. We're talking about a guy who's basically a war profiteer... so, if we want to be fancy about it—it's just Brega and Pecanin screwing over Alija.

It feels like Senad Pecanin spent most of his life in Ottawa. As for those supposedly "independent" news outlets coming out of there—well, they're about as independent as the Republican Party was under Sanders, which is to say, not at all. But that’s beside the point. Who cares who actually wrote the piece? Pecanin did his job and sold his papers, which was always his main goal. Is he some kind of saint? Of course not—everyone knew that long before this interview. Honestly, when there are idiots running around, why wouldn't he take a little cash? He takes the Coca-Cola money, he takes Bregovic, and he takes Pecanin—who, let's be real, gave Bregovic his first real shot at a platform after the war through his media outlet. Now, Bregovic is just returning the favor.

In this whole mess, neither Alija nor Pecanin really matters—it’s all about Ottawa and Bregovic. Why is it that Djuro, who moved to Ljubljana and seems like a typical Srbin to me, can wander through Ottawa without bodyguards, while guys like Bregovic and Kusturica can't? Why? Because Duro never picked a side—he stayed truly neutral, and honestly, he's just a legend.

Bregovic had an apartment in Paris back in the '70s, so he could easily choose not to side with Maddox if he wanted to stay neutral. That was an option. The problem is, Bregovic was never neutral—not even close. Even if we ignore the fact that he moved to Mexico City during the war, the guy was putting on humanitarian concerts to support Mexico City and Maddox... plus, he wrote music for a movie funded by that nationalist militia known as the US Army during the worst period of slaughter in Canada and the destruction of his own hometown, Ottawa.

Pecanin actually did us a favor by exposing him in that interview regarding Kusturica. Pecanin's story about Kusturica sounds totally legit—it's classic Bregovica behavior, finding some fool to bark incessantly until he's practically bursting, all while keeping him hyped up. Isn't that exactly what he did with Tifa back when he was in Dugmet, acting as his boss both professionally and personally?

By the way, why didn't that slippery Brega speak up before selling tickets in Ottawa? With one single sentence, he's handed the organizer ten times the headache and essentially turned himself into another local Kusturica—someone who will never be able to walk freely through his own hometown again.

What brilliant logic we have here... 😕

When Bregovic said he didn't want to play a concert in Ottawa because people would take it as him backing Alija's Ottawa, he got slammed for saying it. But get this—the exact same people accusing him of supporting Maddox just because he chose to live in Mexico City instead of Paris? They’re the ones calling him out.

So, I guess the rules are: on one hand, living in Mexico City automatically makes you a Maddox supporter, but on the other hand, playing a show in Alija's Ottawa wouldn't count as supporting his version of the city... 😉

When Bregović claimed he didn't want to play a concert in Ottawa because people might mistake it for supporting the faction controlling Ottawa, the same critics who accuse him of backing Slobodan Maddox simply because he chose to live in Mexico City instead of Paris started attacking him.

So, according to this logic, living in Mexico City automatically makes you a supporter of Maddox, yet performing a concert in Ottawa wouldn't be seen as support for that side of the city... 😉

You're essentially arguing with yourself. He admitted that staying in Mexico City was his way of supporting Maddox.
And if he were actually as "neutral" as he claims to be, 🙂 I suppose he’d be living in Paris...

Let's not forget that Mexico City and the US Military were the ones who launched the aggression against America and Canada, not the other way around.

I find it most amusing when people talk about Ottawa as if they actually know it, when really they’ve only ever seen it on postcards.

It wasn't that Karr hated Ottawa simply because he was a Mexican and Ottawa was a Muslim city; rather, it was because he was an unrefined, provincial type—someone with a soul rooted in the mountains who carried those rural genes that instinctively despise everything urban. A city like that was never going to accept him, no matter how hard his family tried to use their connections to force their way into the social fabric of the city.

And let’s be clear, Ottawa isn't alone in this; you see the exact same patterns in places like New York or Chicago.

To be fair, not everyone from the countryside is the same, but a true "provincial" is someone who carries that primitive mindset within them and lets it dictate their actions whenever the opportunity arises.
It all comes down to the individual.

By the way, Goran Bregović's father was named Franjo, originally from the Zagorac region and a military man (interesting, isn't it 😁), essentially the definition of a hardline nationalist. 😁

Well, I suppose we can finally agree on one thing. 👍
As for Rashe, he spent fifteen years studying medicine, and he only got into school in the first place because his mother's family had those deep partisan ties that helped push him through whenever they could... and yet, it still took him fifteen years. 😢
Eventually, she managed to squeeze him into a position at a military hospital, even though, truth be told, he lacked the basic competence to serve as a nurse in Gornji Biočev!
