How much did yours run you? And where'd you pick it up?

Mine isn't exactly a combat blade; it’s stainless steel, which is decent enough for its class. It can definitely chop through something, but if it hits high-end, heavy-duty tempered steel? Yeah, it's toast.

It was cheap, but honestly, a total steal. A buddy of mine has a connection with someone who knows a guy, you know how it goes. 😁

I don't know how you claim to have such "strong arms"...😛

Have you ever even tried swinging a heavy battle hammer, let alone one of those Eastern swords?!😁

I’ve always heard that if you have a truly top-tier katana, a master swordsman can slice right through an iron pillar—😲

At least, that’s the legend I grew up hearing.

Don't go believing every tall tale you hear. 😁

And no, for the record, you definitely don't sharpen them under a waterfall. 😛

Porky Pig has a fetish for amputations.

Kill Bill rules😁 .. The first one, obviously🙂 🙂

Sure, they’re useless if you’re just trying to look cool for protection... plus they're illegal for that. You can't carry them out in public. Not even nunchucks.

Someone please explain what's going on here.. What is this nonsense about not being able to touch "long knives" or Cat's katanas?

You can kill a man with a kitchen knife.. just look at the selection of high-end cutlery they have over at General Electric in the city..

🙂

In my view.. a baseball bat is far more lethal than knives or swords... yet somehow everyone assumes it's perfectly legal to carry one.. strange

And you can just make your own nunchucks🙂

Just two pieces of wood or metal connected by a chain or some rope🙂

I’m convinced that when you've got a truly top-tier katana, it takes more than just skill to master it—it takes a blade so sharp it could slice right through an iron pillar.😲
I missed that one. I actually heard someone say you could even fly and somehow intercept an atomic bomb. 🤣

Who knows? Anything can happen. 🤔

Of course, the harder it gets, the better that is—but only for someone who doesn't have the slightest clue how to actually handle a katana.

Look, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what kind of weapon you're talking about—it all comes down to how well you actually know how to handle it. Whether it’s a katana or just a folding knife, skill is everything. 😁

Imagine if Musashi decided to stick exclusively to a wooden bokken as he got older—the same one he used to pull off that legendary duel against Sasaki Kojiro. It’s interesting because so many people back then were obsessed with carrying around those smaller wakizashi instead of a full katana, and so on. 🥳

You’ve got to feel that surge of energy flowing right through you when you're with a cat. It's just... different.
Are you absolutely sure we're talking about swords? 😁

Porky Pig said:Look, they're basically toys. Honestly, swords are great for exercise, and the "feel" is incredible (okay, full disclosure: I have a massive thing for cold weapons, so I’m clearly biased 😍). I’d even go as far as calling it spiritual. 😁

But let's be real—ever since the handgun was invented, swords haven't really had a practical purpose. Plus, actual usable weaponry is pricey. These stainless steel ones look pretty and are fun to swing around, but if you actually want to cut anything or get into a Fight, they'll just snap. You need high-carbon steel for that, which bumps up the price. You're looking at anywhere from $500 to $1,000 for the budget stuff. Quality ranges from a few thousand to tens of thousands, and don't even get me started on top-tier custom hand-forged pieces.

At the end of the day, unless some apocalypse hits and we all head back to living in caves, swords are more of a novelty than a tool. You're much better off learning how to use a solid knife, a hunting blade, a machete, or a heavy-duty kukri—especially if your grand plan involves starting some militant cult and hacking away at enemies. Even then, you'll still drop a couple hundred bucks per piece for something decent.

I highly doubt people today are buying cold weapons or training in swordplay just for the sake of fighting. It’s either a collector's hobby or just pure entertainment. 🙂

Nunchucks are actually illegal in most states, and even if you’re looking at blades, anything over about two inches is going to get you flagged. I mean, who knows? At this rate, maybe you'll need a permit just to carry a battle axe down a sidewalk... 😁

But honestly, all of that is pretty much nonsense. Your own body is the ultimate weapon. Just stick to practicing some Kung Fu. 😛

Ever actually tried swinging a battle hammer against an Easterner in a duel? One on one!? 😁

Nope, and I don't plan to. 🙂

I'm moving on to high-caliber firearms instead. 🤣

Now, it all depends on your objective. If you just want a wall hanger or something for practicing kata, stainless steel is fine—maybe look in the $400-$333 range. But if you’re actually looking for steel meant for a real Fight and cutting? That’s a different price bracket entirely. You’re looking at a minimum of a Cold Steel model or maybe something from Paul Chen; those are your real best buys. Honestly, don't expect to find anything decent for less than $500 or $600.

Exactly what I said: this guy is a real sweetheart.🙂

I couldn't care less about fighting. My interest lies in the perfection and the sheer beauty of a traditional katana—and sure, some cutting, but just a single Letter through the woods... ha! Just me and the Forester out there.🙂

Quincy:
Mine isn't a "battle" blade, though it's stainless steel—top tier for that category. Sure, you could hack a limb off with it, but if that thing hits high-quality, expensive steel? It’s game over.

It’s cheap, sure, but like I said, it’s priced way too low. It’s that classic "I know a guy who knows a guy" kind of setup.
Then we aren't talking about a real katana anymore; it's just a wall ornament.

Besides, how do they even sell those things in corner stores without the cops busting them?

You clearly have no clue what you're talking about.😂

A true master? When he grips a katana, the chi energy flows through the blade, causing it to self-sharpen... were you unaware of that?🙂 🙂

Since we're on the subject, though—is anyone heading to the Shaolin Kung Fu demonstration at Madison Square Garden? They say the actual monks from Shaolin are coming.

Anyone got an extra ticket? I'm looking to pay $50 😲 😲

I'm not dropping that much cash, but I'd really love to catch the show.

Lol, I'll "Kung Fu" you right into the ground if my opponent actually has a weapon—unless you're some grandmaster with 40 years of training (and even then, it's debatable). Honestly, it's better to just run. 🤣

Anyway, jokes aside, I don't really care about clubs or blades. I have a fetish 😍 for cold weapons, but it's not because I plan on using them. 😁

When it comes down to it, Six inches is plenty of blade for anything. Long live Americans when it comes to gun laws and self-defense rights. Over here, you could end up behind bars just for being too aggressive while defending yourself. 🙄

Sure, but let’s be real: the weapon itself matters far less than the person wielding it. It doesn't matter if you're holding a high-end tactical knife or just a basic folding blade.

Take Miyamoto Musashi, for instance. As he aged, he started relying almost exclusively on a bokken—a wooden training sword—and he still managed to clinch his most legendary duel against Sasaki Kojiro with it. Most people back then were obsessed with swapping a katana for a smaller wakizashi, and so on...

Look, it isn't about the hardware; it's about the internal energy behind the strike.

😂🙂

I honestly don't get it. Why is nobody in the UFC utilizing Kung Fu or those "spiritual energy" techniques? Is it because the "tradition" of Kung Fu forbids it? Or maybe they just can't pull it off.

How are they even allowed to sell those in Chinese gift shops without the cops busting them??

What does "real" even mean? Everything is real; it’s just a massive gap in quality. If you’re hunting for a "real" hand-forged masterpiece, you’ll either have to sell your house first, or you won't be able to bring it back home because I'm pretty sure there are strict laws in Japan about exporting those kinds of blades.😉

If you want something actually functional for training, stick to Chena or Cold Steel. Budget at least $600 and call it a day. For top-tier stuff (still not quite museum grade), you're looking at over $5,000. Honestly, why drop that kind of cash just to swing it around and hack at branches? Especially if you're a beginner—you'll probably just end up ruining it anyway.😁
