I’m using JPMorgan Chase too, and when I sent money to someone else, I didn't have to fill out that phone number field at all... even the instructions say you don't need to!

So, I need to wire some cash to someone's checking account over at JPMorgan Chase.
The only thing tripping me up is the "payment reference" part.
There are two separate boxes—what goes in the first one versus the second?
A friend told me to just put their account number in the second box...🤷 but what about the first one?

Usually, I just pay my bills through JPMorgan Chase and have never actually sent money directly to an individual like this, so I'm totally lost.

Thanks! 🙂

Your friend is right. For the reference number, you just enter the recipient's account number, and for the model field—just use 17. 👍

Just a heads-up, if you're sending money to someone with an account at Bank of America, you don't even need to bother with a reference number (like, just typing in the account number 2360000-3212345678 works perfectly when you're paying a friend's checking account or even hitting a loan payment 2360000-712345678).

This is straight from the online banking instructions

But honestly, I once sent money to someone at Chase using online banking without adding any reference info at all, and everything went through totally fine!

Is there any way to set up payments on the Chase app so I can pay using the actual due date listed on the bill, kinda like how it works over at Bank of America?
I’m basically looking to click through all my bills today, but have the money actually leave my account in a week when it's actually due.

This might be a bit of a tangent for this thread, but... I was just checking my Chase online banking statement tonight and noticed a charge for a single blank checkbook order—$1.75. The weird part? I haven't stepped foot in a branch or requested any checks lately. I was in there about a week ago to pick up seven checks, and they hit me with a $12 fee for those right then and there—which, honestly, felt pretty steep. So, where is this new charge coming from? Anyone have any bright ideas or advice on how to handle this?

@kikabela, head down to your local JPMorgan Chase branch and file a formal complaint. They won't have an answer sitting right there on the desk, but they'll pass it up the chain to the people who actually handle this stuff 😉
either some glitch occurred and they’ll process your refund, or they processed a check late—at least then you'll get some clarity 😉
are you seeing "check issuance" specifically?? because JPMorgan Chase still shows pending fees in the amount of $1.75 🤷

I actually went! First, I headed down to the square—honestly, it was pure chaos, like a cat trying to type on a keyboard while circling everything... I barely knew what was happening. Then they tell me my check was actually issued yesterday at my local Chase branch and I should just head over there. I was freezing my tail off, so I trekked over, but it was the same old story once I arrived. Even the branch manager had to step in! Luckily, it turned out to be a total fluke—one check that hit the system a day early hadn't cleared yet, and that was the whole issue. Thank goodness it wasn't anything serious, though I have to say, I was absolutely shivering!!!!

I was seriously about to go nuclear on Google—I’ve been sitting here for like ten minutes trying to log in, but the page where you're supposed to enter your token data just won't load. It's absolute madness. 😠

Then it finally clicked—they’re doing some massive site-wide facelift, probably messing around with the backend code or something. And of course, they didn't bother to send out a single notification. For a second there, I actually thought I’d been wiped from the system entirely.

Alright, let me head over there now and see what kind of mess they've made of the interface.

Seriously, this is just ridiculous... I’ve been trying to pay my bills all morning, but the system keeps kicking me out every single time. It’s driving me absolutely insane. I just tried again, hoping for the best, and this is what I got:

AUTHENTICATION FAILED

Chase Bank Error Message 1
Explanation
The request cannot be completed. If you have multiple security certificates installed, please ensure you are using the correct one.

And all I did was click "LOGIN"... 🤷

It is functional now. However, the new design is a disaster. It feels cluttered, monotonous, and frankly pathetic. There is zero structure, and the navigation is a total mess; you just keep clicking aimlessly hoping something actually opens. I was so frustrated by the experience that I actually emailed their webmaster. It seems to me that whenever American websites undergo a redesign, it almost always results in decreased usability... 😢

I was so hyped when I heard Chase launched their new app... but honestly, after logging in today, I’m just totally bummed 😢
All that constant clicking and you can barely tell where anything is! They really should've just kept it similar to the old one and just gave it a little facelift 😢

Seriously such a letdown 🤷

I’m totally digging the new website redesign... but man, this other stuff is just a total mess! 😢 I have no clue why there's such a huge gap between them...

So I'm trying to swap some USD for Euros today and everything is hitting a brick wall.
Why the hell is it getting blocked when everything looks totally fine on my end?
I've got the cash, I'm filling out all the right info, and still nothing.

Quick question—I want to donate some money to help out a sick little girl... what should I put for the transaction code? Just the first two digits? Like 01? Or 99? 🤔
I'm totally lost here, please help me out! 🙂

If you’re making a transfer to a standard checking account—basically just a regular person's bank account—you leave the model field blank, and then just toss in a 31 or 32 under the reference number...

You could always try using a simple sequence—like "123"—for the memo. That’s my go-to whenever I'm sending funds to someone's personal account, and it usually goes through without a hitch.

I just left the model field blank and typed in exactly what they told me to for the phone number, and it actually worked!
I tried searching online to figure out what all those different models actually mean, but I can't find anything about 😢

help 🙂
I'm feeling a little lost here, but I’m trying to use this token to send some money to a friend through my Chase account. I’ve handled bill payments before, but I’ve never actually sent money to someone at a different bank. I usually just move things around within Chase, so I want to make sure I have this right.
For the recipient's account number, it looks like the routing number comes first followed by their account number. If I'm remembering correctly for a Chase transfer, it would look something like this:
234009-XXXXXXXXXX (where the first set is the Chase routing number and the second is the actual account number?)

I assume I should leave the "Model" field blank?

I'll fill out the address, the purpose of the transfer, and the amount, right?
And am I correct in thinking I should leave the authorization number field empty?

By the way, if I submit this online right now, how long does it typically take for the funds to actually hit their account?

Thanks a lot for the help... hope to hear back soon! 🙂

Exactly, it's the routing number. And yeah, pretty sure that's it, I haven't double-checked lately, but it should be.😁 I think even when you're paying bills through JPMorgan Chase, they give you a dropdown menu so you don't even have to type the damn thing in manually...

In the real world, it usually shows up in under 10 minutes. I've tested that a million times...
