That isn't the right number 😢

You've entered an invalid PayPal code. You have one attempt left to get this number right. If you enter an incorrect code again, you won't be able to use this card as a payment method on your PayPal account anymore.

Here is how you confirm your card:

1. Take a look at your card statement and find the charge from "PayPal" that has a 4-digit code listed beside it.
2. Log in to your PayPal account and click Confirm Credit card.
3. Type in that 4-digit code to finish confirming your card.

The front page of the Economy section is currently dominated by a massive thread about PayPal, so please, for the love of everything, take your issues over there instead.

Hi there,
I just picked up a new Visa debit card from JPMorgan Chase. There’s plenty of cash in my account, yet I can't seem to make a single online purchase. Why is that happening? My old card specifically stated "for electronic use only," but this one doesn't say anything. Also, my previous card didn't even have a CVV code, whereas this one has a three-digit number right on the back next to the signature strip. To top it all off, the welcome package they sent is an absolute joke. Can someone please explain if I'm actually able to pay for things online or not? And if I can't, what's the reason? 🙂thanks 👍

Maybe just try asking at the teller window
if they have that damn three-digit code; theoretically, everything should be good to go

You can't really use Zan's debit card for anything online or even link it to PayPal. I guess the PIN needs to be four digits too. Not sure why though... probably just bank policy, maybe because of membership fees and Mastercard 😁

You're spot on regarding previous attempts to pay online using Chase cards. It was basically impossible to make any kind of payment with them.
Once they started issuing the newer cards, they included a 3-digit security code. So, the idea that the code must be four digits is actually incorrect.
I haven't personally tested these updated Chase cards yet—so I can't confirm if everything is working smoothly now—but my Bank of America Visa Electron works perfectly fine. (And yes, it does have a 3-digit security code 😁).

That said, a quick question for the OP: how exactly do you know you won't be able to pay online?

Because I actually tried paying for something with it. My account balance shows way more money than what I attempted to spend, yet the card was still declined—specifically, it rejected the CVV. I entered the card number, the expiration date, and that code at the end. Then, I grabbed a different card from Wells Fargo—it isn't mine, but I used it for the exact same purchase and it went through without a hitch. On the Wells Fargo card, the format looks like XXXX XXX, which isn't how our new ones are set up. Ours just has XXX. Is that the actual CVV or not? Who knows. I'm too lazy to actually drive down to the bank XD😁

Chase debit cards aren't processing any online transactions—and I mean all of them: checking, savings, even the foreign currency accounts.
As far as Chase goes, the only things working online are their Mastercard and Visa credit cards—not those basic debit ones.

Alright, here’s my question. If I walk into Chase tomorrow and tell them I want to open a foreign currency account, when I finally get that card in my hands... can I actually use it for online shopping? Just to be clear, I'm talking about a standard debit card, not a credit card. You know, just spending whatever balance is sitting in the account. 🙂

As far as I can tell, the Chase debit card works just fine online—pretty much the same way as Wells Fargo 🤔

Hi everyone, I’m looking to open a bank account so I can move some funds over to PayPal for online shopping. Since I’m currently a full-time student and don't have any side income yet, I haven't really needed an account before... I was wondering which one would be the best choice to start with? A friend suggested opening a checking account at Chase Bank.

From what I understand, I’ll get a debit card and they only charge for transactions rather than monthly maintenance fees. That sounds ideal for my situation, as I only plan on depositing money occasionally when I need to buy things from overseas websites.

I’d love to hear some other perspectives if you have them. 😬

Alright, let's get this straight: which numbers actually go under the card number field? Are we talking about the account number or what? Is it the routing number or just the specific account number???

You use the numbers clearly printed on the front of the card. Depending on the brand, there will be anywhere from 13 to 16 digits.

So I’ve got this Visa debit card from Chase, and I’m freaking out a bit—is it actually possible for someone to swipe my card number on some sketchy website and somehow force my checking account into a negative balance, even if I don't have any overdraft protection enabled?

A Visa debit card isn't even linked to your checking account, so I don't get how you'd even end up overdrawn.

Look, they just pull funds from a different account through that card. 🤣
Don't tell me you haven't watched CSI or any other crime shows.

But all jokes aside—I’ve been using a Chase Mastercard charge card for years without a single hiccup... The CVV is just that three-digit code on the back of the card.

How long after opening a checking account can I start shopping online? Basically, how much do I need to have in there before my debit card actually gets issued?
