Yeah, that’s the one. I just don't get how she ended up with a PayPal card alongside her checking account when their site clearly states:

All checking account holders are automatically issued a Maestro debit card

I’ve got a checking account with them too, and all I have is my Maestro.

Are you sure she actually has a checking account? Seems more likely she's just using a basic savings account.

Heh, asked her again. She misspoke; it's just a savings account.
But she can still shop online with it regardless, right? 🤷

edit:
Called my aunt over at Chase, and she said technically yes, but it's better to open a foreign currency account. A PayPal card linked to a foreign currency account works 99.9% of the time, whereas using a standard domestic checking account means some sites might reject it.

You're still stuck on current accounts. 😁 We're talking about a checking account. I've got one, just like PayPal does, and I use it for all my online shopping. It works on PayPal and anywhere else they take standard Visa, so you don't even need a foreign currency account—the one you already have is plenty.

Not much of an update, really...
It looks like my PayPal card is still being useless, even though I have the CVV. Honestly, I'm pretty pissed off because when I was opening this account, I specifically asked if the card would work for online shopping, and they assured me it would. Well, fast forward to today, I try to buy something, and nothing. To top it all off, the site keeps telling me I entered the wrong card number. I blew through three attempts before realizing it was a glitch, and now I'm locked out from using any other credit card for the next 24 hours...
Tomorrow, someone at Chase is going to hear from me!

chupy, if you're talking about that new orange Visa debit card from Chase—it works perfectly on PayPal. I used mine to buy something online just two days ago without any issues... and I successfully verified it today.
Did you perhaps enter something incorrectly?? Because my card works just fine.

I want to apologize upfront—I know I’m jumping in with this question after so many pages of discussion, but honestly, I’m still pretty lost when it comes to all of this.

So, here’s the deal: I need a card with a CVV code to link to PayPal so I can finally pick up some stuff on eBay. Right now, I’ve just got a Visa from Chase and a basic student checking account. Since I’m still a student and don't have a steady income yet, I’m still figuring out how all this banking and account stuff actually works.
Basically, what’s the easiest and cheapest way to get a card that I can successfully register on PayPal?

Thanks! 🙏

Brandon Palmer7, if you have a Chase student account, you can link their Visa debit card—that new orange one—directly to PayPal. I’ve got a student account myself and already linked mine to my PayPal.

So, basically I just head down to Chase, ask for an orange Visa Electron for my checking account, and I'm good to go? What kind of fees am I looking at—and how long does it actually take to get it in my hands?

If you actually have that student account you mentioned, there shouldn't be any fees—no card issuance costs or monthly maintenance charges. Why not just head down to Chase tomorrow and get the facts straight from them?

I was just talking to my wife today and she goes—hey, turns out our card doesn't actually work on PayPal.
- Wait, what? I was told it would work fine.
- Well, apparently it worked for someone else... so, I guess we'll see.

Anyway, I went ahead and placed the order, so whatever happens, happens.

I was actually gonna tell you last night not to bring up PayPal or online shopping with them. They don't have a clue what you're talking about and you'll just end up confusing them. 🤣
Turns out I was right.

So, I just set up my Visa debit card through the Federal Reserve, but the only thing is—my card is purple.🤷

I tried registering it via PayPal, typing in all those little digits (though I’m a bit unsure if the CVV is that big number sitting above my name, and whether I should be including spaces or not)... anyway, PayPal keeps giving me this message:

This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer's customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card.

Any experts out there who know what's going on?

The colors aren't the only inconsistency in your story, right?

Essentially, you opened a foreign currency account (that purple VEI card someone already mentioned doesn't work) instead of a standard checking account (the orange VEI card that actually works). You'll have to go back to the bank...

It’s probably better if he skips it. Zappos found out their online payments were going through and just blocked everything on the 28th or 29th. Now there's zero difference between a checking account and a foreign currency account because those Visa cards linked to them are totally useless.

What did I just go and sign myself up for—paying monthly fees just to maintain a foreign currency account?

What’s the move here... should I just open an account at another bank?

Alternatively, you can simply purchase a gift card for the Mall of America! The fee is minimal—only $8 or $3.25 depending on the total amount—and there is no need to open a bank account just to shop online. 😉

I was wondering if anyone could walk me through how to verify a Mall of America card on PayPal... specifically, where am I supposed to find that 4-digit code I need to enter? 🤷

It is located on the back of the card.

I have my signature and those 4 + 3 digits right there.

So I guess those are the first four, right?
