Just call the bank and ask them.
Stop making problems where none exist.
Regards,

I also picked up a high-tier Electron card from JPMorgan Chase and asked my wife if I could use it for online purchases. She insisted it wouldn't work...
But I can't just let things go. I tried using it to buy Skype credit, and of course, it worked perfectly fine...
So there you have it. Even the bank employees who are actually supposed to know what they're talking about are completely clueless...

Thanks!

You won't be able to use that card for online purchases. I tried to book a flight with Southwest Airlines a couple of months ago, and even though it showed up as an option, the transaction wouldn't go through. I called the unknown and they told me that specific card doesn't work for that—it has to be a standard Visa credit card.

If their website explicitly states they accept Visa Electron instead of just standard Visa, then you should be good to go.

Don't take what the tellers at JPMorgan Chase say as gospel; I constantly get conflicting stories from them. Just call the main customer service line at JPMorgan Chase to get the facts straight.

As for Southwest Airlines, I had no trouble paying with mine back in July.

Now, if I may pose a question to the group: how much of a transaction fee is the bank actually taking per payment?

The bank doesn't actually charge you, since you're the cardholder—they just take their cut from the merchant instead. 😎

Which credit card should I grab: Mastercard, Amex, or Visa? Since PayPal has finally made its way to my little corner of America, I’m looking to pick up a card specifically for those online payments and general use. My main goal is to find the cheapest option possible when it comes to annual fees and sign-up costs. What have you guys been using lately?

Apparently, you can also use a Visa debit card for a foreign currency account. People have managed to register successfully using cards from Bank of America or JPMorgan Chase.

Whatever you do, don't go getting a JPMorgan Chase card. They are hands down the worst bank in America! 🙂

Is that so? I wasn't aware. Regardless, I simply need an account for foreign currency from them, nothing more.

Just letting you know how incompetent they are.
When they approve a revolving credit card, you actually have to go see a notary just to verify everything, as if you were signing a twelve-month loan. Once those twelve months are up, if they deny your renewal, you have to start the whole process over again from scratch.
As far as I know, they're the only bank that handles revolving cards this way.

I’ve got a debit card from Bank of America—has anyone actually managed to get through using one? If so, let me know how it went...

It has to be from a foreign currency account; at least, that is what I have been told.

Jeremy Flores10 As specified by:

It turns out there's still plenty of ground to cover. Split 🙂

Actually, I think it might be best if you don't take out any kind of card at all.

I’ve got an Amex revolving line and a Mastercard
The interest on the revolving one is 😠
And I use this Mastercard instead of a Maestro because it just pulls straight from my checking account. Feels like Mastercard is way more dominant everywhere else.

Honestly, I don't get how some people can't keep their spending in check and rack up these massive bills. Or maybe I'm just a total cheapskate. 🙂

You really have to stay far away from credit cards if you can help it. But honestly, what else are you supposed to do when you don't have an extra $300$133 sitting around? You end up falling right into that trap of high-interest debt immediately. It's a nightmare.

When you get approved for a revolving credit card, they make you go see a notary just to verify everything, as if you were signing a standard twelve-month loan. Once those twelve months are up, if they reject your renewal, you have to jump through every single hoop all over again.
As far as I can tell, they're the only bank operating this way with their revolving lines.

What an idiot I was... and all because I couldn't be bothered to wait in line at Chase, so I went to Bank of America instead... but it doesn't matter... I'll figure them out eventually... especially if they try to mess with me regarding that $30,000 loan I took out over five years... I'll pull my business immediately and move to something like Wells Fargo... where the terms actually make sense.

On top of that, from what I can gather, Bank of America seems to be the only one not offering a proper Mastercard, just this revolving credit setup... plus, when you use it on online betting sites, they hit you with a four-dollar transaction fee every single time. Honestly, they can go straight to hell.

Once this all settles down, we’ll probably end up with a JPMorgan Chase Visa Electron CVV linked directly to the foreign currency account. 👍
