Oh, sure, and then I’m just supposed to pay whatever rate Duke Energy decides to charge me? Not happening. I’ll track my own usage, do the math myself, and pay online at the end of the month based on what I actually used.

Regarding online banking—which bank would you recommend for someone looking to open a checking account here in the States?

Honestly, I’m using Wells Fargo myself and I couldn't be happier with the setup. You don't have to deal with those annoying little hardware tokens you have to carry around in your pocket, and there's no clunky card reader you need to plug into your computer just to move some money. It’s just this slim little card, basically the size of a standard credit card, that holds all your security codes. And man, the speed? It’s lightning fast...

I'm currently with JPMorgan Chase and, frankly, I’m quite content. I haven't really bothered to look into any other banks, so I couldn't tell you if there's anything out there better than what I have.

Regarding Chase Online...

I’m an active user, and lately, it feels like you can't even make a simple payment without the whole system crashing on you a dozen times. A buddy of mine at work spent two straight days just trying to get his bills paid...

It’s pretty obvious they have a massive user base, but their servers are basically ancient junk. Knowing how JPMorgan Chase operates, though, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to actually invest in some new hardware anytime soon...

As a customer myself, I’ve found it nearly impossible lately to pay a single bill without the whole system crashing on me repeatedly. A colleague at my office spent two entire days just trying to get their utilities settled...

It’s glaringly obvious they have too many users and their servers are basically ancient junk... Knowing how JPMorgan Chase operates, I highly doubt they’ll be investing in an upgrade anytime soon...

It was actually discussed right here on this forum before—all those complaints about how Chase Online is sluggish, unreliable, and whatnot... Now, I’ve been using it since practically its inception; I handle all my bills through it, poking around there once or twice a week, and honestly, in all my years (whether I was struggling with dial-up or on a high-speed connection), it has never once failed me. Perhaps I’m just one of the lucky ones. 🙂 That's true, it was a bit slower back in the dial-up days compared to broadband, but it was hardly a disaster; everything went through just fine.

I’m a JPMorgan Chase customer and I’m quite satisfied—though since I haven't tested other banks, my perspective is limited. Regardless, I've never experienced a connection drop; perhaps I'm just lucky.

JPMorgan Chase and Royal Bank of Canada. Both are running perfectly smooth.

Royal Bank of Canada

Their service is top-tier—not just when it comes to online banking, but everything else too, like checking accounts, standing orders, even checks...

I constantly hear people whining about Bank of America or JPMorgan Chase, but honestly, I’ve never had a single issue with Royal Bank of Canada.

So, if I’m already using online banking at a place like Chase, am I actually able to pick up shares in mutual funds managed by other banks through my Chase interface? And if that’s even a thing, does anyone know what kind of fees they hit you with?

Of course you can.
You just pay an entry fee—if there is one—plus whatever Chase charges per transaction.

I mean, I suppose you just pay for purchasing shares in another fund just like any other standard account...

I accidentally sent money to the wrong account number via my online banking app 😲
I already reported it to Chase, but now I’m just sitting here waiting for them to call me back, and honestly, the anxiety is killing me.
Has anyone else dealt with this before? What are the actual chances of getting that money back or having the transaction reversed?

They're actually kind of on the larger side.
It’s honestly not that big of a deal though—they'll definitely get your money back to you...

Thanks, man. I’m crossing my fingers too—hopefully, I don't end up just staring at a bunch of rookies instead of seeing some actual profit 🙄 😕
Quick heads-up for everyone: even if you've been using online banking for decades, stay as paranoid as if you were setting up your first account 🙂
Complacency is what gets you caught! 😉

Every single transaction needs to be double-checked; if you happen to catch an error early enough, the Storno function is your saving grace.
Though, I can't quite recall if a STORNO option even exists for consumer banking apps. I personally use the business banking portal over at Chase.
