The leftists are basically dead in the water when it comes to actually running things—the stats show that the far-right Sweden Democrats vote in lockstep with the Moderate Party about 80% of the time. So yeah, those three leftist parties don't have nearly enough muscle to push through any real changes in the country.

All in all, a total win for the pirates.
The regional divides are still pretty messy, too: Northern Sweden is still leaning heavily progressive, while the big hubs like Stockholm and Gothenburg went for the conservatives.

Social Democratic Party (-II-): 31.2% - 113 seats (+1) - former opposition (in power 1994 - 2006)
Moderate Party (center-right): 23.2% - 84 seats (-23!) - current governing party (2006 - present)
Swedish Democrat (right-wing): 12.9% - 49 seats (+20!)
Greens (-II-): 6.8% - 24 seats (-1)
Center (liberals): 5.7% - 21 seats (-1)
Left-wing (socialists): 5.4% - 21 seats (+2)
LPP: 5.4% - 19 seats (-5)
Christian Democratic Party: 4.6% - 17 seats (-2)

Source: http://www.electionresources.org/se/...?election=2014

The Social Democratic Party managed to grab 113 seats.
Man, the Moderate Party really took a hit! The center-right group had a pretty rough night, losing 23 seats, which is huge. Because of that, their leader Fredrik Reinfeldt—who’s been our Prime Minister—already announced he's stepping down.
On the flip side, the Swedish Democrat party did incredibly well! They basically crushed their 2010 numbers, pulling in 2.5 times more than last time. Now they’ve got a solid 49 seats, which is about 14% of the whole thing.

So, the Swedish Congress has 349 total seats, and you need at least 175 to actually run things. Even though the opposition narrowly beat out the center-right coalition, they can't quite pull together a majority on their own (the Social Democratic Party, Greens, and Left-wing groups combined only have 155 seats). But, hey, maybe that won't be such a big deal after all.

Before the voting even started, every single party said they wouldn't work with the Swedish Democrat party. In fact, Reinfeldt even mentioned he'd be okay with letting a Left-wing coalition form, just to make sure those Swedish Democrats stay far away from any real power.

So long, Carl Bildt! 👋

Quincy:
Sweden Democrats (Right): 12.9% - 49 seats (+20!)
Credit where credit is due to the SD. Unlike the others mentioned here, they are actually the only true right-wing force on the Swedish political stage, and starting this year, they’ll be sitting in the European Union parliament alongside the British UK Independence Party.

Honestly, as long as Carl Bildt is out of the picture, I don't much care about the rest.

It’s honestly wild how the Sweden Democrats basically vacuumed up every single vote and seat that the moderate right let slip through their fingers during this election. This isn't some massive triumph for the left... it’s just a total reshuffling of the right-wing side of the spectrum. To me, it sends a loud and clear message to Europe: we don't need more people like Fredrik Reinfeldt or David Cameron. What's actually needed is a serious, ideologically driven right wing. Mind you, I’m not exactly a huge fan of the current hard-right parties—their talent pool is pretty shallow and they tend to be full of absolute clowns... but hopefully, their success will force the mainstream conservative parties to take a hard look at themselves and start incorporating some of those tougher right-wing demands. BTW, does anyone happen to know what the economic platform of the Sweden Democrats actually looks like? I can't find anything on Wikipedia or Google, and their own website doesn't seem to have an English section...

Is Jimmie Åkesson a Nazi?
Why would anyone claim that?

Is it because he wants to curb uncontrolled immigration?

In Norway, a similar party (Progress Party) actually sits in the governing coalition.
By that logic, the Norwegians must be Nazis too.

🤷

Jimmie isn't actually anti-immigration when it comes to skilled professionals from the European Union—it’s more about his stance against this massive influx of Muslims being pushed through under the guise of "compassion." Honestly, it feels like both the conservatives and the Swedish Social Democrats are just enabling it because there's a little quid pro quo happening: they give them asylum, and in return, they get their votes.

It’s wild how asylum seekers from Muslim countries basically get everything handed to them on a silver platter in Sweden, including citizenship, while highly educated people coming from within the EU run into endless red tape just trying to find a job or secure residency...

At the end of the day, Jimmie is just standing up against the quiet Islamization of Sweden, and frankly, I don't see why he gets any grief for it.
He’s not looking down on skilled Germans, Belgians, Poles, or Americans moving here.

Personally, I’d feel pretty out of place walking through Swedish cities where you're constantly seeing hordes of people dressed in burkas and other Islamic attire.
If an American or a Swede tried walking around Jordan or Morocco wearing a cross on a chain, they’d be arrested on the spot—or if they were having a really bad day, they might even lose their heads.
Sweden talks a big game about women's rights, yet they haven't even banned the burka or those other coverings that, let's be real, aren't exactly compatible with a woman's dignity.

In Sweden, anything that doesn't explicitly push progressive socialism gets labeled as "radical." So, the SD isn't even more right-wing than the UK Independence Party, and they're light-years away from being like Jobbik. A party that would meet the standard European criteria for being moderate would basically be viewed as a social democratic party here, even if they technically identify as center-right.

The Moderate party isn't even part of the center-right. You should head over to YouTube and watch those old clips of Fredrik Reinfeldt—he was out there advocating for higher spending on immigrants and claiming that foreigners were working harder than locals.

You hit the nail on the head, though—the Swedish Democrats definitely grew by soaking up former Moderate voters.

There isn't a single party in the Swedish Parliament that isn't fiscally left-leaning, and that includes the Swedish Democrats.

I'm jumping in to join the congrats on the Social Democratic Party's unexpected win. Honestly, if they keep this momentum up, I think they're going to crush it even harder at the next election—they might even take the top spot.

The reality of how much ground the Social Democratic Party has gained is frankly quite unsettling; it’s a grim truth, really, and if you actually bother to dig a little deeper into the facts rather than taking things at face value, you'll find that those claiming they aren't acting like Nazis are simply misinformed. It's all incredibly flimsy.

I remember reading this piece in Free called "End of the Scandinavian Dream," and honestly, I don't think the SD is what’s going to wreck Sweden. It’s more about the current leadership handing out citizenship to Muslims and everyone else migrating from Africa. Is it actually in anyone's interest to turn one of the most livable places on Earth into something resembling the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant?

I get that birth rates are tanking across Europe, but man, I wouldn't be importing this many immigrants if I were in charge. With moves like this, both the left and the right are basically just buying votes at the expense of their own citizens. You've got Muslims being raised from day one with nothing but thoughts of the caliphate and Sharia law in their heads, and that's all they know. In my opinion, the only real fix is deportation; otherwise, the social fabric is just going to snap one day. It would have been better if these immigrants had shown their true Face right from the start.

Islam just doesn't recognize the concept of coexistence.

When you look at the whole spectrum—the anti-Islam agitators, the anti-feminists, the homophobes, the neo-Nazis, and the endless list of other bottom-feeders—you're really just seeing different facets of the same extreme right-wing movement that's gaining momentum across Europe, which is quite disheartening because they seem to be steadily picking up more and more support, most notably among the younger generation... 😠

It’s pretty wild how the Social Democratic Party managed to pull in so many votes down in southern Sweden—where the immigrant population is highest—but they also picked up steam in a traditional stronghold like Dalarna, which is basically our version of rural West Virginia where you barely see any immigrants at all.

But if you ask me, you can't really blame the radical right for gaining traction without looking at the political parties that keep pushing through massive waves of immigration from people who don't even care about the country they're settling in. I mean, what do you think is going to happen to the LGBTQ+ community once religious extremists take over? To them, anyone who isn't part of their faith is just an outsider.

Yeah, right. Like Muslims are gonna be out there protecting the LGBT community or giving everyone a hug. And don't get me started on the surge of atheists lately—I guess they'll just follow Sharia law, where everything is totally fine and everyone gets their rights... yeah, sure...

Look, we know exactly what the Alt-Right stands for—that's why we support them. Don't act like we're some bunch of idiots who don't know what's going on. If they have one flaw, it's just that they're way too liberal for our taste.

Honestly, you could almost thank the Kingdom of Sweden for this—their immigration patterns end up helping balance out the demographics for Americans.
