Here’s the deal: Adobe Acrobat Reader XI keeps freezing up on me every single time I try to open it—even though everything was working perfectly fine just a little while ago. I went ahead and did a full reinstall, but it didn't change a thing! It's the exact same mess; not only am I unable to actually view any PDFs, but the program itself hangs up the moment I even attempt to launch it. I need some help here 😢

Maybe give a different PDF reader a shot. Personally, I've been using Adobe Acrobat Reader, but there are plenty of other options out there...

Might I suggest installing an older version like Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.5 instead? 🙂

Man, I am losing my mind here with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Honestly, it doesn't even matter which version of Adobe Acrobat Reader I try to use—they all suck. Every single time I open the app and try to click on anything, I get this stupid "stopped working" error and the whole thing just crashes instantly. I've already tried a full reinstall, but nope, absolutely nothing helps. It's driving me crazy.

I actually sat through this tutorial, but there's no point because the second I attempt to click something, the program just kicks me out to the desktop.

I'm running Windows 8.1.

I’ve had nothing but headaches with the DC version on both Windows 8.1 and 10. It kept throwing this annoying DLL error at me. Basically, I’d manage to open my first document without any issues, but then? Boom. Just a constant stream of errors related to that same damn DLL until I finally gave up and rebooted the whole computer. Anyone else deal with that mess?
Turns out the issue was just their security sandbox acting up. All you gotta do is head over to Preferences -> Security -> Settings -> Security and toggle off "Enable Protected Mode at startup." Fixed!
I haven't got a clue how much that actually messed with the security, but hey, at least it’s been running perfectly ever since...

I used to rely on SumatraPDF back in the day, but lately I've just been using Microsoft Edge—both are perfectly fine for handling PDFs if you don't need anything too fancy. I'm running Windows 10, by the way. Give those a shot and see if they work for you.

I’d personally suggest checking out this PDF viewer if you need something that actually handles editing quite well, too. We put this software through its paces at a firm using it on over 50 workstations, and honestly, we never ran into a single glitch. It’s free to use, though you can grab a license if you want to unlock some of the more advanced features.
