Olivia Lopez8 said:I had a feeling they might actually make it, but seeing it move into production still caught me off guard. So far, AvP looks pretty promising—there aren't a ton of leaked images or scenes yet, which I actually find to be a good thing. Since AvP started out as a PC game (and there's even a sequel to that game), it makes sense to see it adapted for the big screen, much like how they handled Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy. I know it’s probably a bit early to be starting a discussion on this topic, but I’m genuinely looking forward to it. I've lost count of how many times I've watched both Predator films, and I've seen all four Alien movies more times than I care to admit. Honestly, I think this could turn into a massive blockbuster. What do you guys think? More info over here:

I saw the movie about 15 days ago. To be honest, the whole thing felt like a weird mashup of King Scorpion and Journey to the Center of the Earth—only with Freddy Krueger thrown into the mix. I grew up on Alien and Predator; I honestly don't even know how many times I've sat through them. However, this movie just completely trashes the magnificent concept of an AvP conflict. It was illogical, the pacing was non-existent, and the plot felt like something I could have scribbled down myself on a napkin. Still, I suppose the one redeeming quality is the sheer thrill of actually seeing an AvP showdown happening right in front of your eyes.

There actually is an Alien vs. Predator game out there 🙂

Anyway, the movie is just straight-up brainless... I just finished watching it and man, what a letdown... the Predator ended up looking like a complete wimp.
There’s barely any fighting, and the scraps we do get are totally underwhelming...
It sucks!!

If they had turned this into a game, it actually might have been fun—a bit lame, sure, but definitely an interesting concept.
So, here’s how it shakes out—the Predators are essentially the race that arrived on Earth and handed humanity civilization, complete with temples designed specifically for dueling with Aliens. They go into these ancient sites three at a time without even carrying guns. And then you have these characters trekking 4,000 meters below the ice to explore a temple buried for millennia—carrying rifles???
And then there are those Predators who just go through the motions—most of them are total bores—but one actually manages to be a standout, even if he ends up looking like a complete blowhard in the end.
And then there’s that scientist—you know, the one who suddenly develops some massive ego and decides her best course of action is to go sword fighting with lizards...
Look, even a total amateur like me can see that the last one actually held its own—sometimes people like me just have a better handle on certain things than you'd expect.

What’s stopping us from assuming the Predators established a civilization on Earth specifically to serve as a "hunting ground"? If that black monolith in *2001: A Space Odyssey* works logically within its own universe, then the Predators could easily utilize similar means for this purpose—assuming, of course, you're looking at this through the lens of fiction. If you aren't, then move the topic over to "Natural Sciences," ask people about the origins of life on Earth, and see if anyone has actually spotted an Alien.

As for the actual plot—those three Predators are basically just "lizards" who have to hunt down the Aliens and escape the pyramid to complete an initiation rite to join the "hunters pack." And that woman? She isn't some scientist; she’s a survival specialist trained for Arctic environments. There wasn't anything particularly extreme enough to warrant her jaw falling off. As for the humans bringing weapons into the pyramid—look, if I were in their shoes, I’d be packing heat too. The only real logic gap is the Alien Queen attacking the Predator while he had a future drone implanted inside him—though even that works, since the Queen likely saw him as a direct threat. You get it now, right?

The movie is a complete dud—honestly, it’s just not worth your money to catch this at a Cinemark. I decided to sit down and watch it on my PC the other day, and frankly? There were far too few action sequences. While the story holds up well enough, the actual execution... 👎

Just finished watching
I was pretty disappointed, though not totally crushed
It felt way too short for my liking
Fans should definitely give it a look, though
A sequel is almost certainly coming😁

Have you even played the game? To me, the AvP movie feels like a direct spin-off of AvP 2. Like, the whole topic comes straight out of the game—it wasn't nearly that insane in the movies.

Mostly, I liked the movie. It just should've been longer.

The movie is garbage. I won't even get started on how 90% of it takes place in practically pitch-black darkness.👎

I’ve watched it too, and I have to say, it turned out better than I anticipated.

HERE BE SPOILERZ

First off, the production design is quite well done; the temple isn't nearly as lackluster a setting as I initially feared. It actually bears a striking resemblance to the Alien temples seen in the AvP video game 🙂. Furthermore, the space-based special effects—like the shoulder cannons glowing red-hot during fire and the Predator's cloak—felt visceral and grounded, which stands in stark contrast to Riddick, where the heavy reliance on CGI makes everything feel artificial. The practical effects are plentiful and excellent, and the Queen is just as convincing as she was in Aliens. That one Alien with the mesh-pattern scars on its head was particularly impressive; I was pleasantly surprised to see it take down two Predators! Also, the defensive acid spray from the wounded tail was a great touch 😁
. The only thing that felt a bit nonsensical to me was how the acid could melt through a Predator's armor and wrist blades, yet the spear remained intact when the woman used it to kill the Alien (and honestly, wouldn't she have been drenched in acid if he's bleeding right above her?). But fine, whatever. Perhaps Predators simply possess varying grades of steel. Though, judging by the scene, she certainly had a mess on her legs 😁
. The concept of the cannons inside the pyramid was interesting—it implies the Predators have to fight their way to them first to gain an advantage against the Aliens. There are a few plot holes, though. For instance, why didn't the Predator kill Weyland immediately? My theory is that he saw the man was sick and bleeding internally, making him an unworthy sacrifice. Or perhaps not? And why would the Predator let the woman walk away carrying the Alien's head and tail like trophies?
I was also pleasantly surprised by the brief appearance of the small Predalien at the end. I assumed the writers had trimmed the film too much and forgotten the moment a facehugger ambushed the lead Predator from behind while his mask was off. Heh. Looking ahead to the AvP 2 film, those Predators are going to have a serious problem on their hands once they realize just how massive that creature gets when it matures. It’s likely three times stronger than a standard Alien, meaning hand-to-hand combat won't be an equal fight anymore 😁
. The only absolute cliché was when those two characters mutually declared they both had children. Good grief, people—you NEVER do that in war movies or monster horrors! By making those statements, they essentially signed their own death warrants. They basically bought themselves a massive farm 😬
.
All in all, it's a solid film. It doesn't reach the heights of Aliens or Predator, but it's decent enough, and a sequel would be a cool move. We'll just have to see if it stands the test of time and repeated viewings.

Andrew Williams said:Did you actually play the game? To me, the AvP movie feels like it was pulled straight from the video game—for instance, the way the top came out was identical to the game (it wasn't nearly that crazy in the movies).

For the most part, I actually enjoyed the movie, though I really felt like it needed more runtime.

Compare it back to AvP 1. Everything about this one leans too heavily on the game, and that's exactly why the film falls short. It’s missing that dark, moody atmosphere we saw in Alien 1, along with the sense of mystery surrounding the Predator, better dialogue, a cohesive plot, stronger logic, decent acting, well-developed characters, and just general intelligence.

Given how much people and critics trashed it, I was expecting something absolutely bottom-tier. Turns out, it actually exceeded my expectations.

I’m honestly glad AvP doesn't try to have anything to do with the actual Alien movie.

The way they handled the Predators was solid, and I actually dig the whole "connection" between the Black woman and the Predator.

It's a good, no-brainer flick... just sit down, grab some popcorn, and kill ninety minutes without a second thought... And I love that they didn't drag it out.

The only thing that bugged me... they tossed the Queen into the water... what?! The freezing ocean will kill her... she'll drown... ?! Just stupid.

restlesslynx said:There are a few things that don't quite click—like why the Predator didn't just take out Weyland right away. My take? He probably saw the guy was sick, bleeding out in his lungs or whatever, and decided he wasn't worth a decent, honorable hunt. Or maybe not? And why let the woman walk off carrying an Alien head and tail?

You nailed it regarding why he skipped Weyland. As for her getting the tail and the head—those are trophies. She took down the creature and basically saved the Predator's skin, so maybe he felt he owed her one. Just a hunch 🙂.
He definitely saw she was unarmed for a fight. That head acts as a shield, and the tail is a weapon. Plus, he likely didn't kill her immediately because she had their gear in her bag—probably thought she’d already bagged a Predator and was just carrying the trophy. Maybe he wanted to save her for later 🙂.

The script and the plot are just... bad.
I mean, the whole thing probably shouldn't have even taken place on Earth; I guess it would've been a much better movie if the setting had stayed purely sci-fi from start to finish.

The movie basically just leans on what we all want to see—Aliens and Predators.

Anyway, if anyone has actually read the Alien vs. Predator comics, you might notice that the connection between the Predator and the woman was pulled straight from the books.
See, if the Predators respect anything at all, it's pure fighting skill and hunting ability.
In the comics, a Predator also initiated a female into his clan, though she eventually left them to try and be part of their group.
After a few issues, she ended up siding with the humans once the Predators
started going after her own kind—you know, us. 😉

Personally, I found it a bit off that the Predator teamed up with the woman so immediately. Back when he was part of the unit with Arnold, he felt genuinely pathetic and malicious; after Arnold demonstrated such superior hunting skills against him, the creature decided to just blow the whole thing up with a nuke (HAHAHA... BOOM). I actually loved that—it gave him this dark, gritty edge. It reminds me of how a character once perfectly put it in an AvP game: "They are sadistic... like children with insects." I truly got the sense that they don't just hunt humans, but that they are inherently malevolent. While it worked out well enough that they took down the Queen together, in my opinion, their motivation for cooperating should have been purely survivalist—realizing they stood zero chance alone. And then, perhaps, the Predator could have simply spared her. Maybe even left a little souvenir for Danny Glover since he was such a legend 😁 though I certainly wouldn't want them to suddenly turn into some kind of honorable "good guys" now...

I was honestly a bit let down. I was expecting something much better than just Predators—total cowards and nothing but pitch blackness; I couldn't even see half of what was happening. It felt like a cheap DVD rip, but still...

The movie had potential, but it fell short—there are way too many plot holes, the action scenes are sparse, and they’re poorly shot...
I mean, she ends up teaming up with the Predator just to take down some Aliens together 🙄 This should have been the cinematic event of the year, yet they delivered something totally mediocre 👎

And as for it being too dark? I didn't even notice; the picture quality at the Cinemark was perfectly fine.

Watched it today.

For the most part, the AvP game is actually one of my all-time favorites—I even have the original copy at home—so there are certain things about this that just... irritate me.

1. The combat is poorly handled. You basically have to analyze the fights frame by frame just to figure out what’s actually happening. It’s just a mess of cuts, and then suddenly I see an A/P on the opponent's tail or spear. It doesn't feel right.
2. There's zero tension. We lost that specific charm that made Alien and Predator movies so gripping, where you were constantly jumping out of your seat. Even if this is a different kind of film, they could have been a bit more subtle instead of leaning on those old clichés like the penguin scene...
3. The dialogue is absolute garbage.
4. The characters are absolute garbage.
5. For some reason, when the Predator detects humans, it uses BLUE vision instead of red. It uses the red vision for the Aliens!!!
6. This whole theory about Predators playing god on Earth doesn't work here because, knowing the nature of both the Alien and the Predator, a scenario like this should never have been established in the first place. A big mistake.

Rating:
1. The whole bit about why the pyramids exist and how civilizations connect—passable. It actually follows its own internal logic, which I kind of dig.
2. The concept of the hunt, where Predators prove their worth to join the adult ranks—really solid stuff. It feels very similar to Native American legends regarding tribal structure and rites of passage.
3. The human crew—absolute garbage. Honestly, the only saving grace is that we aren't stuck with some invincible hero type like Schwarzenegger. Though, realistically, they should've had at least some decent gear if they were planning to head under all that ice.
4. The hunting scenes—pretty bad. It’s rare to see this done right; usually, Predators stalk humans first and then suddenly just stop... whatever. This felt off.
5. The Alien Queen—come on. How did she manage to break through tons and tons of ice? What was she using, an icebreaker? Looking at her physical structure, there is zero chance she could punch through that much mass; she should have stayed buried down there, dead.
6. The Predator grabbing the Alien—give me a break! If Ripley managed to handle that Facehugger crap in the second movie, what are the odds that this massive Predator couldn't? I mean, just minutes after getting hit by that first chestburster, she grabbed a new F-hugger with one hand and snapped its neck, didn't she?
7. Setting up two potential sequels—the Alien Queen sinking into the ocean and the Predators getting an Alien on their ship. It's laughable. Sure, the first one might work because Aliens can survive in water, but the second one is total shit.

I'm disappointed. What a waste.
