Animated avatars

So, here is my dilemma. My avatar is an animation, right? I go through all the motions—I shrink it down to 50x50, I make sure everything is technically perfect and follows the rules, but the moment I actually hit "post" on the forum, the animation just... dies. It sits there as a completely static image. Why does this happen? And more importantly, how on earth do I fix it so it stays animated?

There’s a whole variety of them out there—JPGs, GIFs, you name it...

Why is that? Is there some sort of restriction on specific formats, or can I just use whatever I want?

jpg is just a static image. It's the gif that actually moves, while you layer everything together and all that...

There they are, those two links. I honestly have no clue why they aren't working properly, but I suppose that’s just how it goes sometimes. To be perfectly honest, I am quite out of my depth when it comes to this sort of technical nonsense, so please accept my apologies in advance.

I go through the whole process of copying that link of yours, pasting it right into the avatar URL field, hitting save, and then—get this—it just hits me with an "upload failed" error message.

WELL LOOK AT THAT, IT ACTUALLY WORKS. MAN. I mean, why on earth was it giving me that "upload failed" nonsense then? Whatever, doesn't matter now, the main thing is it's working. Apple

Could someone please enlighten the rest of us so I don't have to start this thread again? How do I resize it while keeping the animation intact, and how do I pin it to the top?

If you have Photoshop handy, you can just handle it in Image Ready...

Alternatively, there's an online tool you can use here:

Just browse for the file on your PC, upload it, hit edit -> resize, and set those dimensions to 50x50.

I tried downloading a small animated GIF (10.5 KB) to my computer, but I can't seem to get it to work. It keeps throwing an error saying, "Upload of file failed."

I finally managed to pull it off.😁
The file was a mere 10.5 KB, yet its dimensions were stuck at 100x100😵, so I resized it down to 50x50 and—voila!😁
