I've already racked up 180 points, so I clearly know what I'm doing😁 😁 😁

Just hand over the cash and we'll be good :P

Taylor Morales31 said:Sure, it works—but once you go and load up an antivirus, throw a browser on there, and start streaming some music? Man, that'll eat up the storage fast. Honestly, after all that, he won't even need to launch a single program before the drive is basically maxed out. 👍

Man, I can't even believe it—I’m running AVG antivirus (which doesn't even hog that much RAM), just basic Chrome :P, and BS Player... honestly, all I do is surf the web and listen to music on YouTube. The only "heavy lifting" I actually do is hopping on a quick Call of Duty 2 match, but school's keeping me busy lately so I've been pretty inactive. Also, I see this guy over here who's already running Windows 7 on a measly 1GB of RAM claiming it runs perfectly fine without any issues... 😁

Windows 7 runs on my machine with just 768MB of RAM, but I can only get DVB-T working there.😛

Sure, you can, but you’re going to be incredibly limited when it comes to multitasking...👍

When I mentioned an antivirus, I was talking about running a full scan—something like Malwarebytes or SAS. Look, while they're scanning, I’d still prefer to actually get some work done rather than just sitting there staring at a progress bar. With only a single gig of RAM on Windows 7, that's a much harder task to pull off.

Here’s an example:

The connection on Verizon
Opera
SAS quick scan
plus Winamp
+ Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
I’ve got 61 processes running right now, and I’m already hitting over a gig of usage👍

Look, you either play your games or run your scans—they probably won't work well at the same time. Honestly, I’d recommend having at least 2GB of RAM; it’s not nearly as expensive as it used to be.
If I have to go through Windows 7 just to manually kill processes so I can function without gadgets or Aero, then I might as well just stick to Windows XP. There’s really no point in crippling a system just to save a tiny bit of memory.

so yeah, either play your games or run a scan... they probably won't play nice together. honestly, just get 2GB of RAM; it’s not like it breaks the bank like it used to, right?
and if I have to start killing off processes on Windows 7 just to stay afloat—losing my gadgets, Aero, whatever—then I might as well just stick to Windows XP. no point in wrecking the whole OS just to save a tiny bit of memory

everything you're saying is spot on, I'm with you there👍
but Malwarebytes takes me about 6 or 7 minutes to finish a scan, and when it comes to antivirus stuff, I just set it and forget it. I'll let it run when I'm heading out or turning in for the night😁

I always have music playing in the background, too. I can game on 1GB of RAM and still run most demanding titles like NFS Undercover, NFS ProStreet, Call of Duty 4, and stuff like that. The only one I couldn't get to work was Call of Duty 5—but that's mostly because my processor is a weak 2.2GHz.
Everything else works fine if you know how to manage your resources😁

You’re honestly a bit of a masochist, aren't you? Stubbornly sticking to those ridiculous RAM specs even after I told you... 👍

I was actually planning on throwing 4GB of RAM into this thing, but then I found out my motherboard caps out at 2GB... so yeah, I'm calling it quits. 😁

Does anyone know how I can set up Windows 7 so that I can just use my mouse scroll wheel to zoom icons in and out on the desktop?
Thanks

Just scroll while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard

Man, this is actually pretty interesting 👍

But is there any way to just bump up specific icons? I don't want everything blowing up at once like this 👍

Wait, how can you be sure about the limit? I’m sitting here with 2GB right now and was really hoping to just pop in another 2GB to get things moving... I’ve got an ASUS P5KPL-AM motherboard—could you maybe check if that thing actually supports 4GB total? Also, I'm running an NVIDIA 9600, so would adding another 2GB mess anything up? I figured it should be fine since I can see there's still an empty RAM slot available...

You can actually add another 2GB of RAM to that motherboard.

Quick question, I just picked up a 5.1 surround system and I can't find the settings to get it all working right. Everything sounds fine, but I'm only getting sound from two speakers and the subwoofer—the other three are totally dead.

Have you tried hitting "Stereo" or "5.1CH" on the remote yet?

Which remote? I'm assuming we're talking about a PC here, not some hi-fi system, since this was posted under Windows 7. 😕

What motherboard are we looking at—manufacturer and model? 🙂
