Does anyone know how to get Windows 7 or Vista installed on an external hard drive via USB 2.0? I need to know which specific files require modification. Right now, I have Windows XP home edition running on the external drive. If anyone has the solution, please write it down for me or send it to email:adresaregistracija@gmail.com

So I just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate, and the OS isn't picking up a single thing. All my buddies are telling me their graphics cards were recognized automatically right out of the box, but I’m sitting here with nothing. Anyone know what the deal is? Thanks.

Did you actually run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before installing the new OS to see if there were any potential "issues"?
Is the graphics card really the only thing acting up?

I haven't actually messed around with that tool myself, but from what I gather, it’s basically just checking if your rig meets the specs to run Windows. My setup could definitely handle it, so no worries there. The thing is, nothing actually installed for me—it just sat there. Also, quick question: if I’ve got my own original Windows product key, does that work for any version, or am I stuck using it only for the specific one I bought?

Just for the machine you actually bought it for, obviously—one license per computer. 🙂

Let me know what kind of specs you're running.

On my laptop, ever since a certain Windows update rolled through, I haven't been able to get network discovery to work at all. Then it finally clicked—as soon as I disable the firewall, everything starts working perfectly again. It turns out that the update somehow wiped out every single one of my inbound and outbound firewall rules.

It just kills my connection to the router, and nothing happens until I physically unplug the cable and plug it back in.

AMD Phenom II X4 955be
Gigabyte 870a UD3 motherboard.
4 GB of DDR3 Kingmax.
The MSI N460 GTX Hawk. Honestly, seeing this card pop up again just brings back all those memories of trying to squeeze every last drop of performance out of aging hardware. It’s a classic, sure, but man, does it feel like a relic sometimes.
I've been looking at that Seagate BarraCuda 1 TB drive lately. Honestly, I'm not sure if it's worth the headache or if we're all just chasing ghosts at this point.

I asked because I’m still sitting on that original MSDNA account we all got back in college—it comes with its own CD key, but it only lets me download Windows 7 Professional. I was really banking on getting my hands on Ultimate, though. I've decided I'll just wipe everything and reinstall Pro from scratch, but I can't help wondering why the upgrade didn't just happen automatically. Part of me even thought maybe my graphics card was released after this version of Windows came out, so the system couldn't recognize it since I can't even get online yet. I won't be able to connect until I install the Ethernet drivers from the motherboard CD just to get some internet access, but honestly, I'm just not sure. 🙂 Look, sorry if I'm asking some rookie questions here, but this is my first time ever touching Windows 7.

That CD key only works for the Professional version; if you're running Ultimate, you'll need a different one. As for the graphics card, just install the drivers manually afterward directly from the Nvidia website.🙂

Alright, thanks a ton. I honestly thought we were dealing with some massive underlying issue here 🙂.

I actually ran into something very similar. It wasn't that my connection would drop randomly, but rather that it wouldn't establish a link with the router during bootup. I could get it working if I manually disabled and then re-enabled the network card, though.
As it turns out, the fix was setting that Adobe Bonjour service to "Automatic (Delayed Start)." Once I did that, everything worked perfectly.

Thanks for the input, cosmicrider5.

I actually stumbled upon another little "glitch" today—it seems my router just refuses to reconnect after it's been running for about 24 hours straight without a break. I ended up giving it a full factory reset 😁 so we'll just have to wait and see how things shake out tomorrow evening, I suppose.

(sorry, had to 😁 😁 )

Apropos Win 7... anyone else dealing with Intel network cards that act up right after running a Windows update?

just grab the latest drivers from the Intel site for Windows 7 and use those instead.

I really appreciate the suggestion, but I actually managed to sort everything out on my own 👍 it turns out the issue was definitely with the router after all 😁>

Just go ahead and install those Realtek's drivers regardless!

Could someone please lend me a hand? I've run into a bit of a snag: I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7, and my old Windows XP files have been tucked away in a folder called "old.windows" on my C: drive, which is eating up quite a bit of space. I'm wondering if it's safe to delete this "old.windows" folder? I actually tried to wipe it once before, but I got a warning suggesting that deleting it might cause Windows to malfunction. (Was that perhaps referring to a standard Windows.old folder, or am I facing a genuine issue here???)

So, turns out it wasn't the router after all, just another headache with the network connection—why does this always happen? -.- I think I'll just head over to Realtek's website and see what they have.

Help me out here, people, for God's sake! It’s not even Windows 7 XP, but my screen just flipped upside down and I have no clue how to fix it. Right now, I'm staring at everything completely inverted. If anyone knows how to flip this back, please help—I used to know the trick, but my brain just totally blanked on it.

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Up Arrow. If that doesn't kick it into gear, just head straight into your graphics card settings and find the Rotate option. 🙄
