You might not have come with a Windows DVD specifically, but there’s a good chance you were given a Recovery DVD instead, or perhaps your machine just has a dedicated recovery partition built right in. Either way, you should still be able to whip up a Recovery DVD if you need to. Just so I can give you better advice, what kind of setup are we looking at here—is it an HP, a Dell, or something else entirely?

I haven't received any kind of CD or DVD yet, and I'm honestly not quite sure where to look within the Control Panel to figure out how to burn things onto a disc
The laptop I'm using is an HP.

If you head over to Start > All Programs, check to see if there's an HP folder tucked away in there... I used to have an HP machine myself, and I remember there was this specific HP utility designed to create a Recovery DVD. The catch was that you could usually only burn it once, so if it's sitting there on your system, you should definitely grab the chance to make a Recovery DVD while you still can!!

It pulled down 61MB from SP1 for me, though I’d already got most of it sitting there... 👍

My SP1 for 64-bit Windows 7 (KB976932) was originally showing anywhere from 73.6 MB to 892.6 MB; ended up being 87.2 MB 🙂

Hey everyone... I could use some help here. I'm running Windows 7 and I can't seem to track down the audio drivers for this Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device. Does anyone have a direct
download link?

What kind of laptop (brand and model) or motherboard are we talking about if it's a desktop?

Maybe try downloading the audio driver for Windows XP and then running it through compatibility mode:

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=zigzffr75jWJ7j2y

I guess you just open the file you downloaded (if it’s a zip or rar, just extract it to your hard drive first) and find the specific driver you need to install (.exe file). Right-click it, go to Properties, then Compatibility, and check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". From that dropdown menu, you can pick either Windows Vista or Windows XP > Apply > OK, and that should be about it.

Where should I unzip this? I already did it on my local C: drive... what exactly is an HDD? Also, when I try to install, I get a message saying "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software."

The HDD is your hard disk drive. Once you've unzipped everything onto your local C: drive, just right-click on Setup.exe and follow those steps I mentioned earlier, then go ahead and run that Setup.exe. 🙂

@ Angela Adams4

The issue is you're looking at a Realtek AC'97 driver, and frankly, the one on Asus's site is ancient—we're talking July 2005 territory.
Just head over to http://www.realtek.com.tw/,
Go to Downloads, then AC'97 Audio Codecs (software),
Check the box that says "I accept to the above," hit Next,
Select "Vista/Windows 7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)" (it's about 30MB and from September 2009),
Grab the file from any of the three links provided.

So, if anyone can help me out... I’m looking for that old-school "search" functionality, you know? Something like what we had back in Windows XP where you could actually pick exactly what you were hunting for—like specific text, folders, videos, whatever.
I've been banging my head against this wall for like half an hour now... 😍

Just hit the Start menu and type whatever you're looking for

It'll pull up everything matching that name

It should pull up everything under that specific name, I guess.

Yeah, I figured that out, but like I was saying... if the stuff actually exists, I probably need to be searching through multiple categories for certain reasons. Maybe it's just me.

Anyway, thanks.

Not sure about that—didn't really look for it that way.

Whenever I actually need something, I just search exactly how I wrote it out. 🙂

So, here’s the situation—a girl is using an HP 6715s running Windows 7. She went to update some passwords and ended up choosing one containing special characters—specifically šđčćž. Now she's completely locked out of Windows because her keyboard is set to English, which doesn't have those specific characters. I tried booting into Safe Mode, but no luck—it just keeps asking for the password. Does anyone have a workaround for this? Thanks.

If you don't have it yet, just grab HirensBoot CD 13.1. It comes bundled with
password Renew 1.1
which lets you wipe or reset that password easily.
You can also use Offline NT password Changer 2010-06-27 from that same Hiren's toolkit if you prefer.
