In Internet Explorer 9, just right-click the image, hit Properties, and copy the Address (URL)

I am dealing with two distinct issues on my Windows 7 Ultimate:

1) While I'm working, the screen occasionally blurs out—followed by a sudden blue screen—then a percentage countdown begins before the machine forces an automatic reboot. Once the OS boots back up, I'm greeted with this message:

PROBLEM SIGNATURE:

Additional information about the problem
:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1050

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 4e
BCP1: 00000007
BCP2: 0007C9E6
BCP3: 00000001
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\031811-31980-01.dmp
C:\Users\XAVIER\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-51043-0.sysdata.xml

2) This used to plague me on Windows XP and Windows Vista—and now, unfortunately, it has migrated to my 7 installation. After a reboot, a black screen appears stating "Disk Checking," and the OS starts scanning partitions via a percentage progress bar. I am forced to hit Enter; if I don't—letting the check run its course like it would on Windows XP, for instance—I won't be able to log in next time because my user icon disappears entirely. To make matters worse, the system is significantly sluggish, and even after logging in, I have to wait for the computer to "settle down"—meaning I can't just jump straight to my D: drive and play some music.

Is there a solution, an update, a patch, or anything at all to resolve these two problems? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Are you seeing both of those issues when you boot Windows 7 into Safe Mode?
Check out these instructions; they might actually help 😉

Regarding Internet Explorer 9, my initial impression is that it performs phenomenally. However, I am struggling with one specific situation... You see, when looking at the Windows taskbar, Opera doesn't show a preview for each individual tab, just for the window itself. But then, in IE, every single tab decides to display its own separate window preview down there. Since I tend to keep a massive amount of tabs open, I end up with a cluttered mess of windows stacked up on the taskbar. Is there any way to group them back into a single window...

While I was attempting an OS reinstall in Safe Mode yesterday, the machine actually started loading Windows Files—specifically those drivers in \Windows\system32\DRIVERS and all those *.sys files. Then, predictably, the blue screen returns and the laptop force-restarts itself. (A repetitive cycle that nearly drove me insane).
By some stroke of luck, I managed to get into Safe Mode today. Any solutions?

Somehow, I actually managed to get into Safe Mode today. Any ideas?

Maybe try System Restore?! Go to Start - Programs - Accessories - system Tools - system Restore

Just roll it back to an earlier date when everything was running fine. 🙂

[Edit] I did a little digging online and found some info suggesting the graphics card drivers might be the culprit.
Maybe check the manufacturer's site for the latest drivers and try installing those.

Actually, every extra tab in IE9 stacks right behind the main one in the Taskbar, making the IE9 icon look like a "deck of cards," doesn't it?

Tools (Alt+X), Internet Options, General, Tabs (Settings), uncheck "Show previews for individual tabs in the taskbar", then restart IE9

Go to Tools (Alt+X), then Internet Options, hit General, find the Tabs settings, and just uncheck "Show previews for individual tabs in the taskbar," then give Internet Explorer 9 a quick restart...

Well, bravo, genius, you actually nailed it. Thanks...👍

I mean, look at that screen. Just... look at it. What kind of nightmare fuel did we stumble into today? Honestly, if this is what my life has become—staring at broken images and digital chaos—then I might as well just pack it in now. Who even does this? Why am I even clicking these links? It’s just one thing after another, isn't it? Everything is broken. Always.
What even is that? Is it some kind of massive error or what? Just sounds like more junk to deal with, honestly.
How am I supposed to fix this??
Thanks.

Can you actually post a larger image? I can barely make out what's written here. It's just a blur. 🙂

A buddy wants me to install Windows 7 (either Pro or Ultimate) on this rig:

Intel Core i5 Desktop
Intel Core i5 Desktop, 2.00 Ghz
DDR2 3 GB
GeForce 8500 gt

It should run smoothly, right? My main question is whether I should go with the 32-bit or 64-bit version. From what I can tell, the processor supports 64-bit. What do you guys recommend?

They aren't going to feel any real difference regardless of which version they pick—unless, of course, they’re planning on throwing more RAM into the mix—in which case they should definitely go with the 64-bit version.

Look, 32-bit systems can't even address more than 4GB of RAM anyway, so there's really no reason to jump to 64-bit yet. In my opinion, 32-bit would run just fine for him enough.
