Do you report posts and signatures?

There was a thread floating around about ten months ago that touched on something similar, though nobody actually put their names on it, and honestly, I’m more interested in where things stand right this second. So, here we are, starting a fresh one. 🙂

I didn't bother adding an option to the poll for people who just want to report signatures, because frankly, I can't even wrap my head around why anyone would do that anyway. 😬

Anyway, let's hear it. Lay it all out there. 😛

I mean, I see people reporting posts left and right, yet they're perfectly fine with signatures if it means advertising some corporation...

Yes. I have reported both posts and signatures. It was only done once, but I believe it was entirely justified. One instance involved some blatant insults and back-and-forth arguing where I flagged a post (though, heaven knows, I’ve probably earned myself a warning card at some point 😬), and the second was when I reported two specific signatures. One was an enormous advertisement that required me to scroll half a page just to get past it, and the other was similarly obnoxious advertising that I found incredibly grating.

I don't touch signatures. If they're driving me crazy, I'll just fix them myself. Sometimes, if I'm in a rush, I'll let it slide, knowing they'll eventually get updated anyway.

As for posts? Yeah, if I think they're inappropriate, I'll step in. 🙂

I have just submitted a report regarding a moderator's signature, which consisted of a short poem or some sort of four-line text 😁

I intend to report only the specific posts. My policy is to first give the individual a fair warning that I’ll be filing a report if they don't cease their insults immediately.
Generally speaking, I find those who resort to anonymous reporting to be quite distasteful...

Look, if someone drops a line like (you get the idea) "Screw your [insert extreme political slur here]," I really don't think you need to warn them before hitting the report button. 😬
Back in the day, though, if I was going to report someone, I’d usually follow up later to let them know I actually did it.
When it comes to reporting trolls, spam, or people derailing the thread, I don't even bother announcing it... that just turns into more unnecessary clutter.
As for signatures, I'll fix them myself when I see them, though I try to send a private message first asking them to handle it themselves.

Oh, by all means, I certainly have nothing of importance to announce to the masses today.
But I must say, it truly grates on my nerves when certain types of people—those who wouldn't dream of actually contributing to a discussion—decide to play hall monitor and report off-topic posts instead...😵

It’s pretty rare for me to actually call an end to a thread. I usually only do it when it feels like the whole conversation is being hijacked and spiraling into something else entirely... but at that point, let's be honest, it's basically just trolling.

Well, honestly, there are those moments when you start a discussion with someone and things just spiral out of control, eventually devolving into outright insults. In those cases, I make sure to give a warning that I’ll be filing a report. It’s a necessity. I wouldn't dream of egging someone on toward bad behavior only to sit back and gloat about it afterward, haha... though I did manage to get the better of him once 😍

It really is a subtle issue... ☕

True, but that information is strictly for the moderators.
I absolutely detest logging onto the forum the "day after" only to find I've been slapped with a warning for off-topic posting or something similar. I always find myself wondering who on earth decided to report me... yet I have no right to know.
And then there are those slippery types who lack any real arguments; they provoke you, pull back, and then turn around and report you for being off-topic. Or for "trolling," simply because you called them out on their own trolling. 🙄

I'm assuming Andrew Sanchez572 meant "anonymous" in terms of the thread itself—like, to the other users on the board. The mods can always see who actually flagged the post...

From my brief stint moderating, people rarely report stuff for being off-topic; if anything, it's more likely a mod was just watching the thread closely and decided themselves that things had gone too far.🤷

Ah... I totally misread what you meant.

I don't go reporting people in threads where I'm not even participating... though, if I see something that genuinely gets under my skin, I feel an almost instinctive urge to jump in.😁
